Kekkei Genkai Name: Hotarubi (蛍火; light of a firefly/fireflies’ light)
Physiological Attributes: Though the Hotarubi does not have affect on genotype of physical characteristics, extended use of it usually leads to white hair and the formation of Lichtenberg figures due to the absorption and exposure to lightning and electricity. If activated by an inexperienced user, charges of electricity can be visible on the skin. When a user is particularly charged, their eyes may begin glowing. As most Hirameku often had yellow eyes, reminiscent to the luminous insect, this is what actually led to the name of the bloodline itself.
Special Abilities: It’s no difficult task to decide which Hirameku has the bloodline. They are often born with a rather potent and abundant amount of chakra. They are capable of more or less, manipulating lightning due to their natural affinity to the element. Users of the Hotarubi can harness energy from natural lightning and expend it. Though, they themselves expel electrical charges because of their lightning affinity through Hotarubi. Natural lightning is not necessary.
Stages: N/A
Method of Obtainment: A Hirameku must be born with the Hotarubi and is required to train it to whatever necessary extent. Its inheritance is neither common nor uncommon, but one must have the chakra affinity of lightning.
Limitations/Drawbacks: The Hotarubi is a gift as well as a curse. Due to the volatile chakra and inability to control it upon birth, infants may kill both themselves and their mothers due to the discharges. This was more common during the early days of its emergence, and since then, it has been required for Hirameku women to be accompanied by Hotarubi users during the birth of their child, along with close inspection during the pregnancy. Afterwards, the infant would need to be monitored until they are old enough to control the Hotarubi themselves. A comical solution would be the use of clothing (or furniture) of plastic make. (And to keep them away from electrical appliances.) It is required for Hotarubi carriers to train at least to the point where they are capable of suppressing the discharges and thus are not completely detrimental. The turbulent chakra usually leads to poor chakra control amongst Hotarubi users. With training, they could of course gain decent chakra control but very few manage an impressive level of it. If a Hotarubi user absorbs far too much energy from natural lightning, even if they are experienced, this could lead to (possible explosive) death due to overcharge. However, this is a rare occurrence as most are taught to recognise their limits, and at worst, they pass out due to chakra exhaust, which is common among inexperienced users.
Additional Information: Lightning really likes them a lot, so they’re more or less a walking lightning rod during a storm. Water is naturally a great conductor and is often utilised with the Hotarubi, though this may backfire in some situations. Out of habit, most Hotarubi users tend to cover up their skin to avoid unnecessary friendly fire.
