If I should die this very moment Personal errand. That's how Masaki explained his upcoming absence to his genin team. A personal errand that would take up his whole day and perhaps some of his night, in fact, he told them, for the next twenty-four hours he would be gone. They were still to train and sometime during the day Ryuu would stop by to check in on them, making sure they were keeping themselves diligent. When one student asked what time Ryuu would be there Masaki shook his head. No time would be given so that the group would be constantly busy or, at the very least, not slacking off because their sensei wasn’t around. I’ve hoped that I have raised you better than that, Masaki ended with a warm smile before waving and vanishing in a cloud of smoke. What the man conveniently left off as not to worry his pupils was the nature of his personal errand: an A-Ranked mission that Masaki volunteered for the moment the Kage explain the situation. In the report it stated that bandits terrorized one of the local villages for some time, kidnapped a woman, and now a new leadership had been put in place by the bandits making their hideout and group even more dangerous. That was only the outline, only the basis of it, but for Masaki it was a chime that rung to closely to his own past and his own soul. A chime broken and out of tune. There had only been one or two complaints when Masaki signed up for the solo mission but he finished them off with a cold glare. Only a few knew how similar this situation was to his past, to his fiancé, but they were quieted by the Kage. This was to be Masaki’s decision and he decided to go. In his heart he knew he could not allow another woman, another person someone loved, fade away to the barbarities of greedy men. So, that morning, after a sleepless night, Masaki met with his Kage, gathered his supplies, and started his hike to the Rocky Mountain Range. Masaki felt alone but it was a feeling he was used to, bred to become accustomed to it after the loss of his sister and then his fiancé. The pack on Masaki’s back weighed little, carrying basic supplies, mostly medical for the woman he planned to save, and as he walk it thumped lightly against his body. Eventually Masaki ended up at the secluded mountain town before he realized he’d left. As he conversed with the merchant whose wife had been kidnapped, Masaki’s jaw set squarely, his green eyes narrowing as he took in the other broken man laying on a hospital bed. Bandaged and surrounded by basins of water and a medic, the merchant looked ashen, his cheeks sunken, one eye swollen shut from a blow, a pinprick of blood raising to the surface of his chest wrap as he spoke. “Th-they took her,” the merchant croaked, closing his eyes. “I…I did try.”“I believe you,” Masaki replied, his voice tender but firm. He too had tried. “Which direction did they go?”The merchant moaned, rolling to his side and away from Masaki. The pinpoint of blood had bloomed into a coin. “Up…took her up. I tried- I-I did try,” the man said, voice scratching at the air like a wounded hound trying to enter its master’s home. “Up. Took my Rika. Took her, took her up.”A nurse hurried to the merchant’s side, frowning when she saw the bloodied linen and then she glanced over at Masaki, lips pursed. She glared at the jounin as if he’d been the one to assault the merchant in the first place. No more, she told Masaki, the patient needed to rest and could not be further disturbed. “I understand,” he nodded, “But up?” Masaki did not finish the rest of the story- could not finish the rest of that sentence. It was as if the deed had been too horrible for anyone to speak fully about in public, like it could only be expressed in snippets or written down. They would kill the kidnapped wife if they said it out loud. The bandits would hear. Gesturing north of the village, to the large mountain range that served as a backdrop to the small cluster of homes and shops, the nurse spoke. “Continue north for another hour and when you reach a lake you need to follow the edge till you get to the mountain base. Go up. That’s them.”“I understand.” THANK YOU MALIA TATE FROM ADOXOGRAPHY

I wouldn't fear Masaki splashed water on his face, letting the drops run through the creases in his skin and neck. His eyes blinked rapidly, pushing the liquid out as he repeated the process and rubbed himself dry with the bottom of his shirt. He knew people were watching him and he knew he looked like he wasn’t paying any attention to his surroundings- that was his plan. He coughed, reaching for his canister of water as he settled back in his squat, peering at the mountaintops with a tourist like curiosity. He could see most of the sierra but the snow dipped tips were a blur to his right eye, leaking over to his left side’s vision. At least it wasn’t dark out outside as that would’ve made things harder for his broken eyesight. He took a long sip from his cask, noticing the movement of two people directly behind him but the shinobi did not react. In fact, before he’d even left the hospital he’d removed his forehead protector, pocketing it into his pack as his brown hair fell lower onto his face. He wanted to look like a simple hiker, perhaps visiting the Earth Country’s mountains for sport, and so far Masaki felt like his disguise had worked. For example, the pair of men behind him, they’d be following him as soon as he reached the large lake but only now did they make an appearance. Masaki figured they would either bully him away or guide him somewhere else, depending on their orders and moods. “Ho there, friend, nice day for a walk, no?” The brunette turned around to face the speaker. The two men approaching him were comically different than each other, stark opposites in every way. The first man, the one who spoke, was smaller, his eyes and skin dark, his body lean like a panther’s. His companion, a thin and gangly ghost of a man looked nervous, eyeing Masaki cautiously like he knew what Masaki was. Perhaps he had some training in chakra sensing. Masaki smiled openly. “The weather here is beautiful, I agree,” he took a step forward to the two men. The dark man didn’t flinch but the taller one did, his eyes darting back and forth from Masaki to the other bandit. “Saburou, Saburou,” the tall one whined, bending down to tug on Saburou’s sleeve. “Saburou…”“Hush, Yuu, not now. Can’t you see I’m talking to our friend here?” Saburou glared, turning back to Masaki as if the little transaction hadn’t happened at all. “Yes, yes, the weather is to die for, I feel you, friend, I sympathize. But you know where the mountains are better to hike?” The small man jutted a finger at the range farther away from the lake, miles from the location the nurse and merchant had pointed out as the bandit’s base. “Over there. Great sights!”Masaki took another step forward, still smiling. “What about those hills behind you? They look like a challenge and I happen to like challenges.”Saburou guffawed deeply, a little too richly for such a small man and Masaki found it disturbing. “No offence, my friend, but you do not look like the kind of man able to face this hill. No, I’d say you go lower. You would be more thankful for it, trust me.”“I'm going up,” Masaki said. And then he raced forward, jumping off the ground as he aimed a kick to the side of Saburou’s head. The dark man fell to the ground, eyes rolling up in his head, unconscious from the blow. Masaki landed, turned, face blank as he noticed that Yuu had vanished. A whine echoed in the clearing around him, bouncing off of the trees and pillars of rocks. His body tensed, already aware that Yuu had been the stronger of his foes despite the man’s size and appearance. As Masaki readied himself, vines broke out from the ground around Saburou’s body as he lay there. They snaked around the dark man’s body, tightening as they went, till his core, wrists, ankles and neck were layered by Masaki’s ivy. A very faint tattoo of a similar pattern started to form on Masaki’s skin as he used his Kekkai Genkai. The coloring was so light that it barely looked like it was happening at all, reflecting the lack of effort it took the jounin to skillfully control his trademark vines. When Masaki heard the whine for the second time Saburou was mummified in vines, the ones near his mouth and nose feeding themselves deep into the man. There was a panic of motion as Saburou woke to suffocation but he was too snared in the plants to free him and they held him down with brute force. Eventually Saburou stopped moving altogether. “I warned him,” the whine spoke, Yuu’s camouflage flickering away as he landed in front of Masaki. “I did, I did.” Pulling a sword from his sheathe, Yuu raised his sword high above his head and dragged it down so it would land on Masaki’s shoulder. Masaki dodged, feigning to the side as ivy grew around his fist. “Kusari Yoroi (Ivy Armor)” The ivy on Masaki’s skin darkened in color as it spread out around his body, concentrating on his hands, forearms, shins, and feet. Thorns sprouted from the nest of green. Yuu sliced at Masaki, his speed and precision faster than what the jounin had expected. Masaki blocked the blows with his arms, using the plants as a chainmail, making the slices useless. The pair kept this up for a few seconds, dancing around each other as Masaki parried with his body, occasionally dancing to the side to attempt his own attack. The third time Masaki struck, Yuu spun his blade around, ramming the pummel into Masaki’s stomach, stunning the shinobi. "Easy," Yuu wheezed. Masaki smiled again, dropping to the ground as his leg shot out, sweeping Yuu’s stance out from underneath him. Yuu landed with a thump, a grumble, his sword bouncing away from him. "Doton: Retsudo Tenshō (Earth Release: Tearing Earth Turning Palm)"There was a rumble in the earth, a flash of fear in Yuu’s orbs as he registered Masaki’s chakra, and then, abruptly, the ground open wide. The earth fed on Yuu’s body before closing itself back up. The ivy wilted into nothingness as Masaki touched his stomach, noticing how tender it felt when combined when his old wound. Faintly, he wondered what color the bruise would turn this time. Jutsu Used:- Kusari no Tsutakazura (Chain of Vines)

For I've never known completeness like being here Blood dripped from the tips of Masaki’s abnormally long fingernails as use of his Kekkai Genkai and chakra slowly twisted that and his ears into something more bestial. Demonic. Surely that is how the bandits saw the jounin as he ambushed their hideout, slaying the guards with a quick twist in his wrist and a sharpened kunai. The further Masaki progressed into the dimly lit tunnels, the further he lost himself in their deaths. This was a side of the Iwa sensei not seen in years, not known by many, and certainly not liked by the man himself. But what else could Masaki become when faced against the people responsible for the loss of Lith- no. No, that wasn’t right. The kidnapping, the kidnapping of Rika. They’d kidnapped Rika. The jounin stopped, breathing heavy as he pressed the side of his bloodied face against the inner tunnel walls. He wasn’t bound to the past and he wasn’t reliving this. He was rushing like the day he ran after Mio, rushing like the day he ran after Lithra, and now he wanted to rush into the central caverns of this hideout for Rika? He’d lost everything he’d love to rushing so how could he even dare to flirt with the very same idea when dealing with a person someone else loved? It was not his heart and soul on the line tonight. Tendrils of chakra rake around Masaki’s body like a specter’s intangible fingers, curling around his figure, forcing ivy leaves to appear under the pressure. One of the strands drifted away from Masaki as if caught on an errand breeze and he reached out to it, watching as the ivy kissed his palm, his fingers, and then disappeared. It was time for him to press on now. Hugging the wall Masaki could feel his body start to revert back to its normal appearance, his nails retracting, ears shrinking, and finally the ivy pattern on his body turning to a faded outline. He’d rather it this way so that now when he reached Rika he wouldn’t frighten her. She would no doubt be suspicious of anyone after the kidnapping, especially someone looking like Masaki did. But Masaki ignored these thoughts, pushing them out of the way. The jounin continued forward, eyes trained ahead of him, his other senses focused on everything else. The further he ventured into the tunnels the colder it became. It took another twenty minutes of traveling deeper into the caverns before Masaki met his next foe. Tired and not wanting to force Rika to wait any longer, Masaki crouched in the shadows, reaching out with his hand. Kanashibari no Jutsu (Temporary Paralysis Technique). The guard stilled, his eyes moving rapidly over to Masaki before the shinobi jumped him, snapping the bandit’s neck in his arms. Masaki didn’t linger to see the body hit the floor. Entering the once guarded room Masaki was relieved to see a woman huddled in the far corner. She was dirtied, worse for wear, and frightened of him. A pool of blood near Rika was her only companion. And while the stench of blood was strong there was something else foul smelling that Masaki could not name. The merchant’s wife looked at him. "Come here..." she whispered, her voice faint and her lips dried. Masaki abided, inhaling deeply the scent he could not place. "You are a shinobi? You came to rescue me?""I am; my name is Masaki. Iwa sent me here.”"It is too late for me," she coughed and Masaki watched as a trickle of blackened blood oozed from the corner of her mouth. "And for my husband, he is dead also."Masaki shook his head, kneeling down next to the woman as he looked into her dulled eyes. “Rika, you’re Rika, correct?” She nodded her head. “Then your husband is fine, I can tell you that personally since I was just speaking to him this morning. He’s in the care unit at the hospital and very much waiting for you, Rika. I want to bring you back to him but I must heal you first. Is it okay if I touch you?” Masaki asked, knowing that a willing patient was better than an upset one. And if she complied it would be better for the both of them but Masaki wasn’t against forcible healing Rika if she took too long. Masaki’s presence would eventually be detected no matter how careful he’d been and he did not want to put the woman in more jeopardy. Rika nodded slowly back at him as Masaki placed his hands on the woman’s side, his hands glowing a dark forest color. It wasn’t hard for the skilled medic to heal her outward injuries, closing cuts and mending bruises, but as Masaki worked he discovered something that he’d feared the moment he smelled the stale air. “You’ve been poisoned?”The woman shrugged, noncommittal at first but then realizing that Masaki was only there to help her, she nodded her head. Masaki returned the gesture, knowing that he didn’t have all the materials he needed to perform this technique but had enough life and combat experience to slow the poison down. “I’m not going to cut into you, Rika,” he explained softly, as if talking about the weather or a good book . “But I do need to slow down the toxin right now and when we’re out of this place and you’re with your husband I can remove all of it.”Rika nodded sheepishly. “Please, hold still,” Masaki requested, his hands glowing brighter, his ivy markings returning. Rika’s face paled. Jutsu Used:- Kanashibari no Jutsu (Temporary Paralysis Technique)
- Saikan Chūshutsu no Jutsu (Delicate Illness Extraction Technique)

Wrapped in the warmth of you A crack of lightning hit Masaki square in the chest, sending out a plume of blood from his mouth as he gagged. He could hear Rika’s scream echo in the tunnel, fading away outside as the jounin saw a beam of light. The light wasn’t from the hit and Masaki could only pray it wasn’t another lightning based attack, because he knew they’d been so close to leaving the tunnels when the woman attacked. Yes, the leader and mastermind behind these bandits was a woman. It surprised Masaki, not because he thought women weren’t capable of it, but more because he didn't think one woman would capture another. It was an assumption that Masaki would not make again. Falling back, Masaki landed against on the ground, breathing heavily as ivy whipped around him. They’d been battling for a while now and he was fully ‘transformed’ as some of his peers liked to call it. Blood trickled down the side of his forehead as Masaki picked himself off the ground and crouched forward, digging his fingers into the ground. “Doton: Ganchūsō - Earth Release: Rock Pillar Spear!” Spikes of rock pierced out of the tunnel walls, slashing at his foe as one caught her directly in the calf, making the leader of the bandits hiss out in pain. “Rika! Out of the cavern, now!” he yelled back at her, voice heavy with breathing but left no room for argument. Masaki heard a faint yes and the follow of footsteps as the leader of the bandits shouted something back, her voice shrill. Long pillars of lightning pierced the air around Masaki as he quickly jumped back, ears ringing. He barely had time to dodge them as ivy raced around him, lunging for the bandit leader. As Masaki avoided the woman’s attack, he spawned two clones, sending them out at her as well. The first was hit by lightning, popping into a web of vines that swarmed the air before dying to the ground. His second ivy clone had more success, reaching the leader’s feet as she punched it, earning her an entanglement of thorned vines. She panicked as the vines wrapped around her, ignoring Masaki for a brief moment, allowing him the opportunity he needed. Jumping out of the tunnel, Masaki landed with a grunt next to Rika, summoning more chakra as he lifted both of his hands and then slammed them into the ground. “Tsutakazura Pichan (Ivy Slam)!”Sweat ran down his body, mingling with his blood as Masaki fell to one knee, breathing heavily. “What, what’s going on?” Rika asked, her eyes large as she watched the mountain side groan with pleasure, rocks cascading down in an avalanche as vines as thick as tree trunks broke out of the cliff. The bigger vines burrowed in and out of the mountain as dust billowed into the air. “Collapsing the tunnel…” Masaki replied, exhausted. “No more of this. You live so no more of this.”He turned to Rika, seeing in her everything he lost and the one thing he hadn't. He wiped the blood off his chin and smiled faintly, weakly and asked a question he knew the answer to. "Want to go home, Rika?"Jutsu Used:- Doton: Ganchūsō - Earth Release: Rock Pillar Spear
- Kusari Bunshin (Ivy Clone)
- Kusari Pichan (Ivy Slam)
