Who's gonna fight for what's right? “Faster! We’ve got no time to lose!”The words boomed through the pillars of rocks as the Iwagakure shinobi streamed through the dense structures making up the Earth Country’s terrain. They clustered like ants, groups of three or four, sometimes two, but never one; no, never would there be a sole ninja today. The stakes were too high, the danger too much. Masaki had heard the call to arms instantly, the request that all free B-ranked and above shinobi were to report to the front gates immediately for a pressing situation. There was, as his companion just said seconds ago, no time to lose. Masaki’s feet pounded against the dry earth, dust billowing behind him and into the other shinobi that lagged after. He was in one of the starting groups, partnered up with Isamu who lead the assault under orders of the Tsuchikage. Isamu was a tricky man, older by Masaki by two decades easily and was widely known for his short temper and even surlier personality. But the man could fight and he could lead, and they respected him for that. Together Isamu and Masaki ran, Isamu bellowing out commands, crude wrds that could perhaps count as encouragement, and, of course, shouting for the shinobi of Iwa to run faster. Masaki was half tempted to point out that the men and women, this crew of tokubetsu jounin and jounin , behind them were going as fast as they could. “Isamu, sir,” Masaki spoke quickly, voice impassive. “You risk leaving behind some of the younger tokubetsu jounin if you continue to increase the speed of this party. For an adversary this dangerous I suggest keeping everyone together at the same pace. We will reach it in time.”Isamu glared at the words, his nearly black colored eyes peering in front of him, not bothering to even grace Masaki with a full look. When Isamu talked his pace did not falter. “You may want to slow down Masaki,” he spat the name out roughly, awkwardly. Isamu was known for calling people by their last names and when confronted with Masaki, a man with no surname, it bothered the older shinobi. “And we could, sure! But when this creature reaches the next village and slaughters everyone because we weren’t there in time, what will you say? Sorry? I was just trying to keep a nice job?”The older man spat into the dirt, his glob of clinging to the rocky, pebble ridden ground. “Fine! Is that what you want Masaki?”Mah. Sak. E. That’s how Isamu said it, hitting all the syllables hard, cutting up Masaki’s name like he would a fine piece of meat for eating. Masaki frowned slightly, holding back a sigh he would give had this been his genin group or a younger jounin. “No, sir, I was just suggesting keeping the groups together in order to better bring down the adversary when we reach it.” “When we reach it- more like if we reach it at this rate,” Isamu huffed, turning back his head to roar another practically trademarked: Faster! We’ve got no time to lose. THANK YOU MALIA TATE FROM ADOXOGRAPHY

Who's gonna help us survive? Perhaps Masaki had been right, perhaps Isamu- in a way it didn’t matter now, not when the Iwagakure army had been split into two, divided by smaller golems. These nimbler creations of rock and chakra weren’t part of the initial report and warning given to Masaki and the rest of the shinobi. But, as Masaki calmly pointed out to Isamu as they began their fight, even the strongest boulder crumbles from erosion, time, and interference, and the same can be said with the giant foe on a warpath to smaller villages and these new golems. “A blasted hydra, that’s what it is!” Isamu roared, the hammer he carried flaring a burnt tangerine as he fed his chakra into the weapon. “Team Two, go left, Team Three, go back and destroy any you find lagging and get me back the rest of this group!” The orders of Isamu rang clear in the rock valley, the sparse trees sticking out as feeble coverage, a weak attempt to bring foliage to the Earth Country. “Masaki, cover me from underneath. We’ll clear the right group.”Masaki nodded, affirming the commands as he watched Isamu berserk his way into the six human sized creations running their way to Tetsu no Kuni. Clasping his hands together, ( Doton: Moguragakure no Jutsu - Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole Technique) Masaki fed his chakra into the ground, vibrating it into a thin sand directly underneath him. One second he was there, the next the man had vanished, the hard earth covering the entrance back up. His vision was rendered useless as the jounin traveled underground, but he could feel the magnetic forces around him, the clicks of how far Isamu was to how far the incoming smaller golems were. When the two opponents collided, Isamu’s battle cry muffled by the earth, Masaki continued forward, tunneling through the rock as if he was a shark in water. It only took Masaki a few seconds to flank the six golems as he breached the surface, body glowing faintly with that ivy tattoo of his. “Suiton: Teppōdama – Gunshot!” Hands forming the tiger seal, mouth widening, Masaki spewed three bullet shaped balls of water. Some thought it strange Masaki’s second control of elemental chakra came in the form of water, but he didn’t. When asked by one of his students one time, Masaki smiled back at the curious lad, pointing over at a potted plant. What does that need to survive? Masaki questioned. Light, yes. Dirt, of course. But what else? Water. You couldn’t tend a plant without water and Masaki's bloodline bowed to plants. His first bullet hit one of the stray golems off to the side, shattering its rocky shoulder from the impact. The golem’s arm fell with a thud as it spun to face Masaki and, unfortunately for the creature, to face the second shot. Wham! Water exploded against the golem’s chest, knocking it back, as it groaned a toe curling sound of rocks sliding against other rocks, and charged again. The creature dodged Masaki’s third bullet, the attack missing completely, spraying Isamu and the other golems in a fine mist as Masaki gritted his teeth in annoyance, a sliver of water dribbling down his chin. Surviving arm lifted high in the air like a mace, the golem jumped at Masaki, unnervingly quick for something made out of rock. This gave Masaki the moment he needed as he shot the last water bullet from his mouth at the golem. The rock broke apart, pebbles and water falling in beautiful arcs to the ground as Masaki pivoted to his next opponent. Isamu had taken out two, Masaki one, leaving behind three more of the right direction bound golems left. Knowing he was out of luck fighting these brutes with Taijutsu (his ivy armor was more effective against flesh than rock) Masaki resorted to something else, a different trick that would hopefully allow him to break the golems. “Stop standing there and get the last two, Masaki!” Isamu barked as his hammer slammed down on the head of one of the golems. A flicker of irritation ran across Masaki’s face as he barely dodged the next blow, slow enough that it earned him a good crack at his thigh. He grunted from the pain, highly aware that, had he been any slower, that would’ve been a broken bone. “Chakura no Mesu - Chakra Scalpel,” Masaki hissed as the area from his wrist upward glowed dark green. He was not like Isamu, not like the man who wanted to rush into anything, who was so brutally honest it came out crude despite being a good leader. Masaki was tactful, a planner, and he was no fool to rush in even if some were credited to more victories that way. Leaping back, Masaki battled with one of the golems, slicing at the rocks, chipping it away with his chakra enhanced hands as if they were blades and the golem’s stone butter. But Masaki didn’t destroy the foe without suffering his own bruises, especially on his arms when the golem hit like a demolition ball. In fact, once the construction lay dismembered at Masaki’s feet and Isamu was walking over to him, the brunette was sure he had a broken arm. “Finished?” Isamu asked, heaving his hammer over his shoulder as he watched Masaki heal himself. “Good, because you need to get to Tetsu No Kuni and warn them about the big guy, get reinforcements if you can because as far as we know we’re still down half our men.”A palm sized ivy leaf wilted away from Masaki’s arm as he glanced up, eyes narrowing to the horizon behind Isamu. “And those, sir?”Isamu glanced behind him, shifting his weight to better support his weapon. “What’s another handful of golems? I’ll handle those. Just run, Masaki, that’s an order!”Masaki obeyed. Jutsu Used:- Doton: Moguragakure no Jutsu - Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole Technique

We're in the fight of our lives Isamu had done his part in delaying the giant because Masaki had more than enough time to run to Tetsu No Kuni and alert them of the pressing danger. Speaking with the village’s shinobi leader, he requested that any higher ranked ninjas available to fight to come with him and stop the bulking giant before it closed in on the town. The villagers and those unable to fight should keep indoors but at least four shinobi should stay, Masaki ordered on behalf of Iwagakure, in case the defense team failed and Tetsu needed to be evacuated. Have a contingency plan, he advised the villagers, because what they were facing comes from an unknown enemy made up of the earth and pure chakra. If there had ever been a time for Masaki’s serious but compelling attitude as a leader and teacher, it was now. Luckily for him and the village, there were no arguments and a few of the doton affiliated shinobi also backed Masaki up, stating they too had felt something wrong with the earth. Something is coming, they cried, something big. “Not if we can stop it first,” Masaki returned, nodding to the leader of Testu’s shinobi as ninjas prepared themselves. “And with Iwagakure’s forces already in combat with the smaller foes and the giant itself, we have good reason to believe that Tetsu No Kuni will be safe.”Overall Tetsu contributed ten shinobi to the battle with four staying behind. It was a decent amount for those not already dispatched on missions and those not high enough ranked to contribute, especially for a smaller village. Actually, the numbers he was bringing to the fight assured Masaki that not all would be lost to the colossus of enigmatic origins. He had a good feeling that even Isamu would be impressed by the rallied Testu forces- six high ranked ninja? That wasn’t shabby at all. But it wasn’t perfect either, Masaki realized grimly, enough to make an appearance but not enough to ensure a clean victory. There would be casualties today. Leading the group forward out of the village, Masaki ran at the front, the village leader and second in command flanking behind him and the rest behind them. They were shaped in a large V much like birds migrating together. This allowed for Masaki to analyze the field as he ran and easily talk to the Testu ninja while leaving the tail end to scout for the smaller golems that may have slipped by. Five minutes in with an ETA of fifteen minutes at their current pace, one of the ninja asked a question that not even Masaki could answer. Why? Why was this giant made and why Tetsu No Kuni? “We don’t know yet,” Masaki replied, holding his hand up in a universal sign for peace or halt. Given the circumstances, there would be no peace today. Seven bodies stopped as the ground beneath them rumbled and the sound of combat drifted towards them on the breeze. Masaki could smell blood. “This way!”As soon as the group reached the giant, a massive construction of rocks that floated in the shape of a man, everything fell apart. The colossus, tall as a two story building and just as thick, even awed Masaki as he stared up at, noticing that the places where the rocks did not connect a purple substance, like a gas, connected them together. In a way their foe looked like a rock man held together by string- like it was some puppet master’s creation but was its own entity. “That must be its chakra,” the brunette muttered to himself as the ground shook again. Somewhere off in the distance he heard Isamu bark out more orders. Had he said Masaki’s name? The jounin couldn’t tell. Shaking his head, Masaki turned to the Tetsu group, mouth opening to explain a plan he had to bring their foe down. But when he turned he saw none were left. They had all advanced forward or scattered at the sight of the giant, rushing forward and leaving Masaki behind. That was wrong, unlike trained shinobi, but there was nothing Masaki could do about it now but bring down the titan. Gathering his chakra (Kusari no Tsutakazura (Chain of Vines) vines appeared around Masaki as he skirted to the side, directing his vines t the golem’s left arm. Snaking them around the rocks, he focused on the larger boulder connecting the arm to the shoulder, and then he pulled. Masaki grunted from the effort, his vines straining as a few snapped from the pressure. He increased the quantity of vines, braiding them together to create a stronger rope as he cried out around him. “Grab the ends and help me pull!” A few free shinobi ran over to Masaki as he directed the free ends of vines over towards them and yelled for them to heave. One of the female ninjas fed chakra into her muscles as she pulled again and then, after a minute of pulling and other attacks from different teams, the shoulder boulder popped free. Masaki’s ivy, his chakra, collided with the purple chakra of the beast and there was a thunderous noise as the left arm fell away, the rest of the rocks collapsing to the ground. “Focus on the joints where its chakra connects the rocks!” Masaki yelled, dissolving the rope vines as a set of four larger, more like thick tentacles, broke from the ground just in front of him. “Kusari Pichan (Ivy Slam)! Hit the joints!”Jutsu Used: - Kusari no Tsutakazura (Chain of Vines)
- Kusari Pichan (Ivy Slam)

And we're not ready to die Isamu was dying. Isamu was dying and for something that had gone so well with the destruction of the giant, it was now so wrong. After the battle had finished and the colossus shattered, Isamu and Masaki left the field to track down the origins of the construction as everyone else healed and reported back to Iwa and Tetsu. Their search led them to an abandon cave and to an even grislier discovery. “Dark jutsu,” Isamu warned, looking at the teenager’s body sprawled out on the floor, her blond hair matted with blood. Blood. It was everywhere, as if the girl had exploded, landing on the walls of the cave, the roof, all over her. Around the girl’s body the outline a complex design in purple (matching the giant’s chakra coloring) weaved around her. Next to that a book. It happened when Isamu reached for the book, picking up the thing, flipping through its content before giving a snort of disgust. “She couldn’t have been more than a chuunin and she was trying to practice this junk?” he tossed the book at Masaki. “And all the life she wasted, not just her own. Let me cleanse this place and we can go back to Iwa and report.”Isamu reached down to seal the area when his suddenly shuddered, spitting up blood. The man cursed. “Mah…Masaki!” he croaked, still forming the seal as his body convulsed. “Get out- to Tsuchikage—needs to know.”“I can help!”“Order!” the older man roared, finally looking at Masaki, his eyes bloodshot. It was the first time he'd really looked at Masaki. And, dutifully, almost guiltily, Masaki followed. Not looking back till he reached Iwa, the book under his arm.
