Amaterasu woke to the hawks call late in the night, loud taps of its beak beating on her window. Rolling over in bed, she buried her face in her pillow, grumbling lightly. "Go away..." she murmured sleepily, pulling the blankets tighter around her. Ares, in his small form, staggered up from his spot on Amaterasu's bed, waddling over to the window. Using tiny horns, he pushed the latch aside and nudged the window open, letting the hawk fly into the room before going back to his spot on the bed and curling up once more. A few more squalls from the large bird had Ama sitting up in bed and rubbing at her eyes sleepily. "Alright, alright," she muttered, holding her arm out for the hawk to land. She removed the note that was around it's ankle, watching the hawk fly right back out the window into the dark Kumogakure night. She unrolled the small note, letting her tired gaze drift over the paper slowly. She only needed to read it once, and as soon as she was finished, she tore out of bed. Feet hit the cold wood floor with quite a bit of force and Ares squawked, rolling off the bed and onto the floor, muttering a quiet "What was that for?". Amaterasu ignored him, moving across the room and pulling on clothes quickly. The same clothes that medical ninja wore while working at the hospital. Her gaze was focused as she stared at herself in the mirror, pulling her hair up into a long ponytail, her expression rather grim. "Go back to bed, Ares, I'll be back later," she said softly, not equipping any weapons in her rush to exit the Raikage's Residence, where she was living with her elder sister. A shinobi had come into the hospital in the middle of the night and he was injured nearly beyond repair. However, they weren't going to just let him die, so they called for the most skilled medical ninja in the village. Amaterasu was apparently one of them, though she wasn't sure that she'd ever given a demonstration of her skills to any of the medical shinobi in Kumogakure. It must have been the Raikage that had spilled the beans on her. She couldn't deny that she was eager to help in the rescuing of this shinobi's life. She would do the best that she possibly could, and she wouldn't just let him die, that was for sure. Running out of the door of her home, she ignored the two shinobi guards that had been posted there, running through the silent streets of the village. Time was of the essence, but unlike her sister, she couldn't just throw a kunai and teleport herself. She had to run the entire way. She had to run faster. Pushing herself harder, she was just starting to feel out of breath, exhausted from the few hours before when she had been training. She barely glanced at the clock as soon as she entered the hospital, noting that she'd only been asleep for a little over three hours. She'd be up for quite some time and she had to keep her focus. While it was difficult, she had plenty of experience in staying awake for the sake of saving someones life. After all, how had she honed her medical skills in the first place? Never once had she let someone die, and she wasn't going to start now. Once Amaterasu had reached the room that had been set up for the operation, she washed up quickly, making sure that she was completely clean before putting on long rubber gloves. Glancing up from the large sink, she noticed the Head Medic of Kumogakure standing there, watching her, looking rather hurried. "Are you ready, Amaterasu? We need to get started right away. The other medics inside have been working for a little over and hour but they aren't skilled enough to perform the surgery. I'll need you at my side for this. Make sure your hands are steady. If you feel yourself slipping, Kenji has a stash of food pills. Let's get working," she said in a rush, whisking Amaterasu into the operating room. Amaterasu was stunned by the state that the injured shinobi was in, but she didn't try and dwell on it. The first question out of her mouth was, "What are we dealing with here, Himura-sama?" She was speaking to the Head Medic, of course. The older man was very quick to answer her, "Extreme trauma to the chest and the stomach, and multiple broken limbs. I fear that he has a punctured lung. We need to get him sedated and opened up to make sure that there isn't any extraneous damage to his other organs, and we need to do it now." While he spoke, Kenji made sure to grab a small pouch of anesthetic, setting up and IV drip and searching the mans arm for a good vein. Once the needle was in, she started the drip, careful not to set the setting too high. They needed him to sleep, but they couldn't have him dead. An overdose, however, was the least of their concerns at this point. Once Amaterasu was sure that the shinobi was sedated, she jumped into action. She performed a few hand signs, "Chakura no Mesu." Slowly, she made a long incision down the shinobi's chest, using the chakra scalpel to cut the bones so that they could pull the rib cage away from the internal organs. Each of them got to work immediately. Kenji had already started to focus his healing on the stomach, which was badly damaged. His gaze was intense as he held his hands over the exposed stomach, working for quite a while to ensure that it would heal well. Amaterasu and Himura, on the other hand, were right in their conjecture that he had a punctured lung. Amaterasu instantly stared to perform CPR, Himura working on removing the singular rib bone from the shinobi's left lung, doing minor compressions to keep the lung inflating while Ama continued with CPR. They soon switched places, Amaterasu doing a few hand signs, "Shōsen Jutsu," she murmured softly, holding her hands above the mans lungs, starting to pour her chakra into her healing. Amaterasu and Himura switched places multiple times over two straight hours, both of them consuming a chakra pill each time they switched to performing CPR. Once Kenji was finished with his healing of the stomach, he too rotated through the steps of CPR and then healing. Once they were sure that their injured shinobi was far from death, they focused on setting the shinobi's bones once more, Amaterasu focusing on stiching up the mans chest. Incredibly focused, she didn't realize how tired she was getting until their operation was almost done. Another round of the Shōsen Jutsu from Amaterasu, and the shinobi was completely in the clear, though there was still much healing to go through. His stomach and lungs weren't exactly completely healed, even after all the work that they had put in. He would have to remain in bed let not only his internal organs but also the multiple broken ribs heal. While Kenji and Himura exited the operation room for a much needed rest, Amaterasu moved their now saved shinobi to his own room in the ICU. She settled into the chair next to his bed, waiting patiently until the anesthetic wore off. When he opened his eyes and inquired about what had happened to him, Ama politely explained the situation, only looking up when a nurse entered the room. "Amaterasu-san, you've been dismissed by the Head Medic. He would like you to go home and rest now," she said softly, "I can take over from here. He'll be in good hands." Amaterasu, knowing how exhausted she was, didn't argue. It was slow going, of course. She wandered exhaustedly through the streets, finally making it back home. She gave a mild-mannered wave to the shinobi standing there, opening the door and walking right in. She was vaguely aware of her sisters presence, but all she said was, "Not now. I'm going to bed." Stumbling into her room, she fell right into her bed, not even bothering to change out of her medical clothing, pulling the blankets over her. She buried herself completely, wrapping her arms around the tiny ram that still seemed determined to sleep. Ares curled into Ama, yawning quietly and snuggling closer. Soon, everything just feel away and Ama was greeted with glorious sleep. | ◀ MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS |
