We're still rolling out information posts and making changes to the board but feel free to get started on your characters and jump into the role play whenever you're ready. Make sure you are familiar with all of our new threads before you do though!
IN CHARACTER With the release of the bijuu and chakra reappearing in humans, the world has become incredibly unstable. To protect themselves from discrimination and prepare for the trials ahead clans of shinobi have started to gather together to form villages. Two villages already exist and this has put pressure on other clans to start to come together under their own banners. Will you help create these villages or do everything you can to stop them?

TRY TWICE AS HARD AND I'M HALF AS LIKED. ✿ In the fields, a tree shook, its leaves breaking free to scatter in every which direction and birds took flight in annoyance, squawking at the disturbance. In the shade of that tree, her hands burned and her shins throbbed, yet she continued her assault, breaking off bits and pieces of bark as if the plant somehow offended her earlier. The tree stood strong and endured. Bloodied knuckles were all she had to show for it. It did not bend or break under her attacks and for reasons only her frustration could display, that very fact egged her on more. The hard cut edged words still hissed on her thoughts. She and her father argued, as they always did, until a lecture became a fight. By the end of it, she knew she was only choosing words to cause pain. Not trying hard enough. It was always the same subject with him. The whole argument could have been avoided if he had just said yes or no. A simple yay, or nay. All she wanted was whether or not she could take on a mission tomorrow. That was it. Instead, it turned into a full blown shout fest that left her storming out of the house in a fury. That had been hours ago. The sun was starting to set, painting the sky a pink and orange. She had been at this for hours. Kicking, punching and all but tearing her way through the innocent tree. The tree didn't deserve it, but she was grateful for its presence. It gave her something to focus on just long enough to drown out the red haze. Only the need to pause and take air back into her lungs-- when had she start holding her breath?-- forced her to step back. She heaved, sweat dribbling down her temples, his brown hair a unkempt mess over her eyes. Asuka unfurled her fingers and started at her blistered and bleeding palms. No amount of force would bring her chakra forth. Her reserves sat still and silent; unresponsive. Even folding her fingers into a triggering sign did nothing. The young Kiri genin howled her frustration and sent her fist against the tree, bark snapping, and birds scattering yet again in alarm. tag: @anyone! ▪ ooc: first post was inspired by The Way |

SEI SIND DAS ESSEN UND WIR SIND DIE jager You know, taking naps normally meant not being targeted by people with intent to kill. Of course, this may be different for Kages or high-ranked Missing Nin, but the point still stands. Especially for Genin, like Mayu! Here she was, trying to get some sleep in while on the branch of a tree, enjoying the smell of the leaves and the wind in her hair, when suddenly, some lady starts wailing on it!
Out of sheer instinct, she changed her color and texture into those of bark and leaves while she held onto the branch she was on. She could hold her bloodline for quite the amount of time; after all, it was pretty much like breathing and walking to her, after having it for her entire lifetime. But damn, this girl was going at the tree for hours. What was her problem? All Mayu wanted was some damn peace, quiet, and rest, and here she was...
As the bark cracked, the ebony-haired girl gave a sigh. God damn it, she wasn't getting any relaxation at this rate. As cool as it is to be naturally invisible to the world, it does have it's cons. So, how to go about getting out of this tree... She couldn't just drop down, or else she would just scare the shit out of the blonde like she scared the shit out of everybody else. Normally, that's great, but she really hated the attention that came after, especially on a one-on-one situation like this. But there really isn't any other way...
Well, if you're going to scare somebody, do it well. Turning off her bloodline and reverting to her normal pink dress, Mayu slinked down from the top of the tree, where she was trying to rest at. Maybe... do it like that one story, where the girl falls down into a world of fantasy. Yes, that would work. Mayu made her way to a branch near the punching girl quietly, so she wouldn't notice over her fists hitting the tree loudly. Then, she turned into the colors of the branch and the sky according to the girl's point of view.
Mayu waited a moment, then two. Wasn't there some lyrics, or a quote to the character she'd be playing? ...Oh, yes. "It's odd, how odd you are..." She said, only her mouth being visible to the girl at that point. As soon as the blonde's attention was caught, Mayu would develop a toothy grin, then the rest of her body would emerge, her pose quite relaxed and catlike.

TRY TWICE AS HARD AND I'M HALF AS LIKED. ✿ Asuka went for another punch, quite intent on returning to her earlier gestures of taking out her anger on the tree when a sound interrupted the space between. The sound was obviously a voice, a voice and tone so unbelievable and unexpectedly close her fist changed trajectory and missed the tree altogether. The side of her fist brushed past but the momentum of her movements carried her onward until her forehead collided gracefully and painfully against the trunk of the tree with a loud thwak. "Sonofa--" She stumbled backwards, her hands coming up to inspect the now growing bruise over her forehead, her blurry vision darting up into the branches overhead to find just who in the hell got so close so fast, and so easily. At first, she didn't see much of anything. But the voice definitely originated from overhead, so she could only assume that whoever it was had to be still there in the tree. Her amber irises searched until they fell upon a stretched smile. Only a smile; in fact that smile was disembodied and floating there, and Asuka felt her breath catch, a startled panic gripping her. A ghost-- What?-- What in the actual hell? Then that smile became crisper, teeth flashing in a grin, and from that floating mouth appeared a nose, eyes, hair and the body of a very human-- very shinobi-- individual. By the time Mayu finished completely unveiling her camouflage, the look of horror was clear as a pale flush on Asuka's face. Sometime in the reveal, Asuka had gripped the space around her heart in an attempt to slow its rapid beating. Because it might as well just escaped up her throat. "Holy shit," she gasped out, remembering to breathe, her pale complexion quickly taking on a nice shade of red. If anyone could hear her heart hammer, Asuka would vehemently deny that the other shinobi just successfully managed to give her nightmares for the next week. "W-what," she paused to swallow, shaking her nerves free, fear melting into embarrassment, and embarrassment rocketing to frustrated anger in the space of a blink. Such as she always is. "What do you think you're doing! You can't just-- How long have you been up there?"tag: Mayu Nagato @anyone! ▪ ooc: didn't kick the tree over, but just short of a heart attack, she's pretty startled. |

SEI SIND DAS ESSEN UND WIR SIND DIE jager Oh look, she got scared! Excellent, she'd be dead if Mayu actually tried to kill her. Oh, and she's even covering it up with anger and a blush. Heh, maybe she isn't the nap-ruining psychopath that she was made out to be in the first place. Eh... still, she had to scare her a bit more, for fun. "Oh, just a few hours. Didn't notice me?" The girl grinned as her skin and clothes became the same brown as the bark and even the same exact texture as the wood. Her hair became dying leaves, and she bobbed her head up and down slightly to hear that ruffling that leaves did. "If you did, then I wouldn't be doing my job right, you know." She reverted to normal again, and did a Shunshin no Jutsu to place herself smack dab in front of the mystery kunoichi.
"So," Mayu started, her hair becoming golden-brown like hers and curling up to appear short, like hers. Mayu's entire face changed to mimic the person in front of her, her nose, her mouth, her jaw, her skin color, hell, she even dropped an inch to match the other girl's height. The only thing that didn't change was her eyes, and even then, the amber brown doesn't make a highly noticeable difference in comparison to pale vermilion unless you looked for long enough. There was no Henge, only her entire facial structure changing physically at an excruciatingly slow pace to emphasize the 'I can be you and nobody would notice' thing. Unlike the other girl, however, Mayu didn't blush, and had her normal ghastly-ass grin on her. "What's your name? I'd love to hunt you down." The grin became a full-on shining white galaxy of teeth before the cuttlefish girl returned to her normal form, giving off silent chuckles before the killer smile turned back into that ghost line.
"Heh, I'm just messing with you. I'm Mayu Nagato. Nice to meet you." Nothing more, nothing less. Her chin went up a slight centimeter for a split second, but that was probably her Freudian subconscious trying to assert herself over the blonde. "But really, what's your name? I'd like to know who hit my napping tree so hard it begun to crack." The casual kunoichi jerked a thumb in the general direction of where she was planning to slumber; not at the bark, but at the peak of the tree. As fun as it was to creep the fuck out of this lady, she did have manners, contrary to popular belief. Casual conversation was only required after creeping somebody out, and if you weren't going to say 'sorry', you were just going to talk to them. Rules of creepy always apply, unless you're trying to kill somebody, in which case, go crazy.

How long did time become protracted? How long did had he rest on this bed? Soaked with circle of intermingling amount of bandages around his chest and even some on the length of his arm, well supposedly his wound were healed. Memory of him having to harm his own self to be seen in the non-guilty in the light of justice. Wanting to test the theory he pushed his body toward the side, his tissue of muscle didn't alarm in pain. All he could perceive in his mind was the bundle of amounting time he wasted, only matter he completed to be was burden toward this village.
Finding himself wanting to change that aspect and do something to prove even the line of worth, training the youngling of shinobi below his rank. Ensuring that they graduated the yearly event which proved nation power, capability. Making up for the loss amount of time was to train the underling of, with pressing furrow of his brow he feet paced in front of him after putting on his clothing.
Awareness deluged into his mind at commending the swarming air whirling inside lung, acknowledging the satisfaction. It was awhile since he could move his body and catch scent of the outside world all in the same motion. His feet wiggled with last moment of respect, after his feet crunching into the ground with each press becoming more so in force than the other. That's when something of distinction crossed onto his sap colored hue, just the type of people he was aiming for after awhile of walking. Or least one at the second, that's when someone he even didn't to notice scampered away from the terrain of the tree.
Did she actually blend in, or what it simple gesture from his unreliable sight. Either way he decided to switch from his other task, watching with hawk-like eye toward the event falling short in front of him. Mouth moved in the midst of utter silence, but in fluttering blink of two strokes she chose to reanimate someone, or changed something. She looked completely different, Mayu, not noticing she was same to the other girl since her back was turned to him. That's when he decided to intervene, his petrified wood of orbs aching onto the chameleon. "Something you care to share?" directing everything at Mayu, if she could change herself at will, didn't it only make sense she could be enemy spy. That's when he heaved himself in polite manner if that masked the mistaking tone of rudeness, by coming between the two. His vision circled even more toward a now forming squint of the skin, "Would you die for this village?" even he knew his question was the borderline of a cliff with insanity below, but he found it to be appropriate response to reading the body response of a traitor.

TRY TWICE AS HARD AND I'M HALF AS LIKED. ✿ In the span of a blink, Mayu moved from the tree to stand directly in front of Asuka, and by the scowl that covered her expression, she did not appreciate the breach of her personal space. Asuka took sever paces back, her bloody and bruised fingers curling back into fists, mentally preparing herself should this other shinobi decide to get physical. Anyone else might wonder why raise her guard, but given that she has had plenty of experience with people finding reasons to pick on her with not just words and gossip, she felt more than justified in feeling edgy. Especially after such a reveal. The ever shift and change of Mayu's appearance would of otherwise intrigued her if she didn't suddenly feel threatened by it. Maybe it was the grin, or the swagger in which she held herself. Yes, changing her own hair into a wig of leaves simply by will is a miraculous feat. But any admiration was lost when Mayu decided to use her special gifts to mock her. Asuka watched with growing agitation as the other shinobi camouflaged herself into Asuka herself. It was very much like staring into a mirror, except this time her reflection had a sass. Mayu was actually showing off. She hated show offs. She asked for her name, but Asuka did not reply. Just set her hard glare on the other girl with every intent on keeping her lips shut. She wouldn't indulge her curiosity. Not after being made fun of so openly. What, did she think it was all just fun and games? Asuka quietly seethed, narrowing her gaze further even after Mayu tried to brush it off as a "just kidding" moment, introducing herself. Her amber irises followed Mayu's mention of the tree, now clearly seeing the dents and marks her fists have made upon its bark. However, her attention didn't stay there long as another broke her line of sight, his taller stature towering, and his red hair quite noticeable. He was clearly approaching the two of them, announcing his presence to the both of them, and whether he deserved it or not-- probably not, but she's not in the mood to care-- Asuka turned her glare on him as well. With her fists balled up at her sides, Asuka's line of patience broke. "Whatever," she growled, and brushed past Mayu without another word, very aware that she has yet to give her name to the other girl. She wanted to get back to that tree. Maybe even knock it down altogether. But the older red head's question had her stopping in her tracks. Would you die for this village?Asuka turned on her heel to face the older shinobi. In her head, she said no. No, she wouldn't just die for a village; a village that barely accepted her as she is. But instead of answering him, she chose to question instead. "What do you want?" |

SEI SIND DAS ESSEN UND WIR SIND DIE jager Right, so either the lady really was the two-dimensional nap-ruining psychopath that Mayu made her out to be, or she was somebody who had no sense of humor at all, or Mayu was just really good at pissing people off. She'd have to contribute that reaction to the second possibility, but gave herself a bit of the third for the hell of it. Still, she was angry, but more in a righteous way, which could be noted. Judging by how bruised her knuckles were, then maybe she was a hard worker who just hated kekkei genkai users. Hey, she'd seen it. The other possibility was that she had some other background problem with the way that Mayu held herself, and god knows she didn't deal with those type of things. Her job was to kill, not be a psychologist, after all.
Looking at the retreating genin's back with a calculating stare, she saw out of the corner of her eye some guy who was staring at them. Suddenly, that guy started to address her. 'Something you care to share?' ...What the fuck? "Er... not really..." She said awkwardly, looking him up and down. Judging by his build, he was a shinobi. His age placed him at around special jonin or jonin or something of that caliber.
Then he placed himself right between tree-punch lady and creepy-chameleon lady. 'Would you die for your village?' ...What the FUCK?! Who the hell just asks that fucking shit?! Jesus, how strange. Still, she went with her usual answer that she gave to her parents, when asked the same question upon her graduation of the Academy. "Well, of course. I signed up for this job, I assume it means that I might die doing it." Her palms open and pointed towards him and making a solid eye contact, she then heard crazy tree-lady ask 'What do you want?' A question that both of them had in common, really.

Something of her demeanor set disposition into the frame of mind, yet his perception couldn't amass to what was so inoperative about her. Pasturing the analysis into demeaning sense of aught, bending it into forthright enforcement of blunt inquiry. Ricochet of verbal tone jounced around, articulating the right sentence to pry for what she was or to how she used her set of talent. Somewhere in that channel of deficiency, came the formulating scheme to bestow the word of monster in his set of words. On the contrary she had physique of a fledging, also he had secluded secret of his own. Having found the inner skeleton to what some would call monstrosity with the right bundle of angst to what he was, "How did you alter the texture of your skin?" presuming she didn't ultimately change the color of her skin.
His beaming scrutiny didn't falter, mounting to overall crease of feebleness. When demanding that she had something to share, referring to her caring to tell that she was traitor on her behalf. Though the answer that he saw coming came into aspect, pleading herself free of his claim. "Then to why you depleting skill that you could be training, instead wielding it to be waste of space for this village." his word spit out with detainment of venom, clocking his flow of eye toward the sanguine fluid leaking out on the tip of her knuckles from the other woman. "Instead you interrupt the session of training for someone else, weakling." combining the murmur with next relief of breath for the word of weakling, but the speculation she overheard him didn't set grumble within him either.
No he wanted to hear the two sense of wit she might have, but her answer set motion of displeasure in him. "Hold in regard that the issue of death is the formation of already becoming more useless then you are. A dead solider, isn't solider." setting the plate for their other question, what did he wanted, why did he interrupt the absent minded game they played. That hissing he did to the traitor came to halt, pacing out of in-between the two toward the side. "Pouncing on a tree isn't the stimulation of combat in the slimmest, don't you aspire to become in term with the word strength? You're the generation to show capacity of the village, in return protecting it."

TRY TWICE AS HARD AND I'M HALF AS LIKED. ✿ Asuka was used to negative attention. Bullying and laughing coupled with a bunch of pointing in her general direction she could deflect with a glare. But being openly ignored by the older shinobi clearly rubbed her the wrong way. And she wasn't just ignored either. Makoto had the gall to start turning harsh words onto Mayu. And against her better judgment her brows twisted, a snarl wanting to rise up from the depths of her frustration as she glared daggers at the red head. Picking on her was one thing, but picking on Mayu, who as far as Asuka was aware, clearly didn't deserve it, grated on her patience. Sure the other girl was a little creepy and sort of annoyed her with her ability show off, but there was no reason to pick on her about it. She couldn't care less what rank the red head was on-- nothing gives anyone the right to verbally abuse anyone. And then, that word came out of Makoto's lips like a well aimed attack. Weakling. "Hey! Who do you think you are!" She snapped, marching herself into the space between Makoto and Mayu, placing herself in the older shinobi's line of sight. She effectively put herself in a position that would have otherwise appeared as defense for Mayu. Asuka stood tall on her feet, ignoring the height difference, and stared Makoto in the eye, doing well to keep Mayu behind her. "If anyone here is interrupting my training, it's you! Did you just come out here to pick on a girl? Is that what Kiri shinobi are reduced to now? Are you so damn bored you have nothing better to do but bully others?"And so what if the bastard didn't think tearing into a tree was considered any type of training. Honestly, she wasn't training at all. She had just been looking for a way to vent out her anger. And while the tree would have been a better silent participant, Makoto managed to become her target now. She stared long and hard at him, daring the older man to continue with a bravery that most could never hope to match. She didn't care that he was older, probably stronger, more experienced-- none of that mattered. She didn't like bullies. tag: Mayu Nagato BANNED @anyone! ▪ ooc: Wow, the tables turned quick! Now she's defending Mayu and pissed at Makoto. Asuka is so complicated. LoL~ |

SEI SIND DAS ESSEN UND WIR SIND DIE jager She didn't answer his question on how she was able to use camouflage, given that she was frozen in place by how CREEPY this Jonin was. I mean, there was the amiable type of weird, then there was the type of weird that you knew that he would kill you if he so damn wanted to. It was... unnerving. Mayu wasn't trained for philosophies like he had, hell, she just slit throats and brought back heads! That's all she had to do, not mind what the hell the meaning of life was.
Then the man let loose on her. Just went and called her a waste of fucking space, as well as a weakling for 'intruding' on punching-lady's training. Mayu took a step back, fear and confusion written all over her face as he proceeded to get on her case like a war veteran with PTSD involving little girls. She started to feel really fucking small right now, with some experienced shinobi man just laying his war-trained wrath on her for... what, being a kid? Actually living out her damn childhood once in a while?
Then the punching lady came between him and Mayu and defended her.
Years from then, the Genin would still recall going into some type of static shock at somebody actually standing up for her. She'd been pretty independent all her life, with nobody to fall back on, so when she was weak, there was nothing that she could do. But... goddamn, this random stranger just up and speaks for her, staring down probably one of the most dangerous people within the entirety of Mizu no Kuni like it was nobody's business. For a second, her surivival instincts kicked in, and her feet started blending in with the grass beneath her, unnoticed due to her long dress. However, this did leave her body frozen stiff as it always did when she used her bloodline.
Words... words were hard to come across in that moment. Did she pull those bloodied knuckles and ask to retreat? Did she stand up for herself, side-by-side with the girl, independent as she always was? As it turned out, the alienated girl didn't have neither the strategy or the confidence at that moment, her mind still wrapping around the fact that somebody stood up for her for once in her life. She felt timid, but also felt like she could rely on this stranger to help her, even though they were both nothing compared to this hulking man. "Th-Thanks..." She whispered to the lady, no, the woman, her voice timid and soft. It was a huge contrast to the rasping, ghosting confidence she exerted around prey. Kind of defined her humanity, really; the ghost turned out to be that little girl after all, not some weapon like this man thought they should be.
She remembered a quote at that moment, but didn't remember where it was from. A past life, or something, but it applied here. "A shinobi is still a human."
