335 | Hitomi knew the difference between training with her father and training with her sensei. She also knew that she needed both of them if she ever wanted to become someone that could lead a clan or, goodness, someone who could even move past their genin ranking. Not many Hitomi’s age were still genin but a combination of clan duties and lack of assurance in herself proved to have a deadly result. But still, Hitomi knew of her clan’s strength and she knew of her own aptitude in scouting and sensor reading that she hadn’t lost all hope. In fact, Hitomi had arrived early to the training ground to practice a few moves before anyone else arrived.
The wind flirted around Hitomi as she hiked to the training grounds, her eye covering flapping slightly in the breeze. A ghost of a smile flickered on the young Hane’s face as she thought about flying. She could do it, her transformation jutsu barely took any concentration at all now, but she also knew if she did that she would end up wasting most of her morning riding the winds and hunting down smaller prey. Acting more bird than shinobi, Hitomi gently chided herself, shaking her head as if the physical movement could rid herself of thoughts of flying.
No, today was not a day to mess around. Starting now she would devote herself to training because when the next Chunin exam happened, Hitomi wanted to be prepared to enter with her team. She was ready…right?
Closing the last leg of her walk, Hitomi reached the training grounds, the stuffed humanoid dummy looking crude with his two similar companions- one for each member of the team, but for now only one would be used. The thought made Hitomi a little sad, knowing that she was better at supporting and encouraging her teammates than being by herself.
“I can do this,” she whispered, walking over to the dummy to place her hand on its shoulder. Now was her time to improve.

‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ay I’m on top of the world, ‘ay Waiting on this for a while now Paying my dues to the dirt I’ve been waiting to smile, ‘ay Been holding it in for a while, ‘ay Take you with me if I can Been dreaming of this since a child I’m on top of the world. On Top Of The World Bless the gods for creating the morning times.
"Good morning, sun~~!!!"
For some reason in his ever-flashy attire, there stood Shikai on the roof of his home, shouting at the top of his lungs with both hands by his mouth, amplifying his voice even further. Why would he shout? To greet the sun and thank it for rising for another day of course. He had already watered the chrysanthemums by his window, right after waking up, and the only thin left to do now was to get his game together and head somewhere to have fun. Well, at least, that would have been the case lest Shikai had some business to take care of.
"Right. Better get started then! Today too, we're going full-speed ahead!!" He claimed to himself, clutching his hand to a fist and raising it up to the air in an enthusiastic manner, his motivation and determination clearly plastered over the wide smile on his face. To start off, he needed to warm up. Running towards the training grounds wasn't too bad an idea, he was good at running too. Had good speed, his build was just right for it, and his stamina was no joke among his peers. Shikai certainly had that point to be proud of.
...
It didn't take too long to get to the training grounds, specifically the Island Turtle, by foot too. He was huffing quite heavily as he finally reached the area, only to see the presence of another nearby. Stopping his run and supporting his body on his knees with his arms locked, Shikai looked forward to identify the other character present in the scene. "Haa... Haa... Hi-... Hitomi-chan?..." It was pretty difficult to talk, but he still managed just fine. This girl, Hitomi Hane, had been the Saotome boy's teammate since he passed the academy tests again last time. Guess he wasn't alone, and this day was going to be pretty successful.
He smiled at her widely, laughing a bit as he took off his signature hat and jacket. "Aha... Ahaha! Don't tell me... You're here to train too? I sure am!" He got the warm-up pretty good, at least. Hanging his jacket and hat on a convenient treebranch nearby, the boy stretched his body, preparing to start his physical training routine. With Hane Hitomi around, maybe he would have even more fun. His thoughts were pretty clear in that regard, reflected through his aura.

443 | Hitomi felt his presence before she heard him and she heard him before she saw him, yet, either way, the teenager knew she wasn’t alone. Turning behind her, the wind pushing her hair in front of her face, Hitomi watched curiously as another figured ran towards her. She was smiling before he even reached the ground’s thresholds. No one had that much enthusiasm for life or such flair in clothing as her fellow teammate Shikai Saotome.
The girl waied patiently as her friend closed the distance between them, pausing to catch his breath once he reached her. For her part, Hitomi stayed quiet, poised and alert as she listened to Shikai’s breathy greeting. “Shikai-kun,” she greeted, adding the honorific as both respect and a symbol of her own beliefs that Shikai was a close friend to her. There were times that Hitomi was unsure if he felt that way, much of Shikai was still unknown to her, but she trusted him. Well…after getting used to his gung-ho personality of course.
Yet, Shikai’s spirit was intoxicating and, outside of battles and missions, Hitomi enjoyed his company. He was like a fresh gust of air when she sometimes was too mired in her duty and rules. Truthfully, the pair made for an odd assortment for a team, but they complimented each other, or so the young Hane thought, especially with their fighting styles.
And speaking of fighting styles…
“I thought I would come early and get some training done, yes,” Hitomi replied, pulling at wraps around her wrist, tightening them. Today she donned the same outfit she wore when they went on missions or when they trained- a brown dress with slits on the sides for easy movement along with her arm and leg wraps. Even in the dress she still couldn’t blame people when they mistook her for a boy. But that was a different kind of training altogether and Hitomi didn’t want to focus on such dour thoughts, not when she had Shikai’s company.
Pulling away from the training dummy, Hitomi stepped back a couple of paces, creating space between her and her teammate. “What if we practice together?” the Hane suddenly questioned, smiling back at her friend. She was already analyzing the field and Shikai’s positioning as she spoke. “Would you be interested in sparring me, Shikai? I want to improve.”
Improve and know how to fight with Shikai to better their teamwork on the field. He was their defense, their self-proclaimed barrier, and he knew how to hit a heavy hit. Hitomi needed to know how to better buttress that attacking style and how else to do that but by fighting him?

‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ay I’m on top of the world, ‘ay Waiting on this for a while now Paying my dues to the dirt I’ve been waiting to smile, ‘ay Been holding it in for a while, ‘ay Take you with me if I can Been dreaming of this since a child I’m on top of the world. On Top Of The World Without even deciding on the set relationship type, it looked like the two were close enough as friends, each adding in an honorific to the other. Shikai really didn't put that much mind into that, thinking of his two teammates, sensei, and generally everybody in the academy he used to be in as equals. In a way, it would be like he wouldn't even call his own Raikage with an honorific, seeing the two as equal. Perhaps their skills were far apart, but as people, they were completely the same. "Early training huh... I didn't know you were a morning person too! Well, you can only expect so much from a clan of birdies. Haha!" He remarked at her answer to his question. It looks like the boy only really wanted to talk, or to get some attention. Not that he'd need to struggle all that much to get it from his teammates, either way.
Having already been somewhat accustomed to this specific teammate of his, Shikai wasn't too surprised to see her wearing the brown dress. He acknowledged her as a member of the opposite sex, but at the same time as a mere friend. Never again, would he make the misconception that Hane Hitomi, would be a guy like himself; last time he did, Shikai fled the scene as hurriedly as possible, despite whatever it was they were doing at the time. Not that he really bothered remembering, it was too sudden a realization and too much of an embarrassment to bear. In contrast, some people would claim that the Saotome boy himself, was more feminine than most guys, in appearance at least if not attitude. They were undoubtedly an odd bunch in some other people's eyes, but really, it mattered not. Everybody had their own personal quirks in life, right?
As he finished stretching, wiping off his sweat with an arm swipe over the forehead, Shikai prepared for another normal training session at the dummies in the fields. That was when Hitomi made a rather unexpected suggestion; an idea for a small sparring match. Apparently Hitomi thought of that as a good way to train herself. Well, it's not that Shikai didn't think of it when he first saw her in here. Just that, he had some qualms with going sparring against someone relatively close to him, and a girl while at it too. He frowned slightly, crossing his arms and thinking a bit. "Hmmm... Are you sure you want to do this...? Someone could get hurt if we're too reckless..."
And then it came to him. A certain idea, that should be alright with his ideals anyway. It was still counted as 'sparring', but there was a slight adjustment to it. He clapped his hands once in enthusiasm, suddenly smiling widely. "Ah-ha, I've got it!" Trotting over to his hat, he suddenly clasped at it and rested the accessory on top of his head, adjusting it a bit lower than usual, so his flowing hair would fill enough space for the hat to remain there even if the boy moves around too much. "Sparring isn't too much of a good idea in my opinion, but what if we add rules to it? Like, an objective? See, we don't have to knock the stuff out of each other this way!" He pointed towards his hat with one finger, nonchalantly looking to the girl. "See this here? Your objective is to knock this off my head. And mine's..."
Shikai had actually taken quite the interest in that for a while now, and has been looking for a good opportunity to reveal that. If the two were to be close enough as teammates, they needed to know each other inside and out, to adjust each other to the other's habits and fighting style to create the most supportive fashion possible. For that reason too, Shikai had targeted the one obvious part about Hitomi: "...Would be that cloth piece of yours! What do you think?"

679 | "Early training huh... I didn't know you were a morning person too! Well, you can only expect so much from a clan of birdies. Haha!"
Hitomi rolled her eyes at this, the action concealed behind the cloth that covered half of her face. Yes, yes, she heard that one before, along with the jingle about catching worms (not that people needed to know that Hane did occasionally find themselves hungering for worms and birdseed). “Some of us are also what you would call night owls,” Hitomi replied back, her voice cool, a small smile on her lips.
Had Shikai’s comment come from anyone else Hitomi would’ve taken it personally, perhaps turning her own quip into something with more sting to it. But, when it came from Shikai, well, she knew her teammate wouldn’t taunt or ridicule her, especially after that disastrous meeting where he had -like many other- thought her of the male gender. For once, Hitomi hadn’t been the more embarrassed of the two parties in that situation. Plus, Hitomi held the firm belief that a genin had to trust their teammates and sensei; after all, these were the bonds that you kept with you for the rest of your life. She had to trust Shikai if she wanted to fight with him and her other teammate as well.
The girl waited patiently as Shikai mulled over her suggestions, her lips pinched together as he took a few moments to answer. A combination of indignity and bashfulness flared inside of Hitomi as she listened to Shikai, observing the uncertainty in his words. Suddenly, Hitomi found herself staring at anything but him: the sky, the dummies, the ground, anything so she wouldn’t make eye contact with her teammate. And by someone, he means me, she thought to herself, excitement deflating a bit.
Yet, before Hitomi could protest or even defend the fact that if it was a spar they could limit their attacks and make sure that nothing intense happened, Shikai was talking again. The clap startled Hitomi as she jumped at the sudden noise, curiosity replacing the emotions she felt moments before. “Yes?” she commented, peering at the boy as he reached for his hat again. “Where are you going with this?”
Now he had really piqued her curiosity.
“This?” she questioned, lifting her hand to toy with the edge of her face covering. Hitomi laughed, a dainty noise that sounded similar to the twitter of a bird. “Very well, but I doubt you’ll be able to.”
She was taunting him now, friendly, but enough to make this interesting for both of them. After all, Shikai had strong hits but who was the one build for agility out of both of them? This was an easy answer, at least in Hitomi’s eyes. “And to make this even more interesting, how about a little wager? The loser owes the winner lunch, preferably a good lunch and not something whipped up ten minutes before.” Hitomi paused, smiling again as she took a step back. “Bird seed won’t count, Shikai-kun.”
Crouching down, Hitomi placed one hand on the ground as the other balanced out beside her. It took her a moment but Hitomi was able to focus on Shikai’s chakra, practicing her sensory ability as she waited for him to make a move. The best thing she could do was get in and out of Shikai’s reach before he could attack her- a few hits from him and she’d be physically stunned enough for him to yank her cloth right off. Yet, if she could daze him with enough attacks to confuse Shikai, she would be able to reach in and knock that hat right off his blonde crop of hair. She could try and stun him too, that was always an option. As far as Hitomi knew, her teammate didn’t know how to use Temporary Paralysis Technique like she did. But, of course, that could always be broken if Shikai willed it.
“Ready!” she cried, allowing Shikai to prepare himself as well. Hitomi wouldn’t dare start before the match actually begun.
((Works for me! I assume our posts will be shorter since we're doing attacks and need time to allow for replies and action? I haven't done battle rping in a while, so I'm a little rusty.))

On Top Of The World "Hoho? Someone's getting a bit too ahead of themselves, don't you think? Well, not that it really matters now, huh? Hehe..." In all truth, Shikai wasn't there to taunt or underestimate his opponent; he acknowledged that they were more or less on the sake skill level, despite their specialties most likely varying. That meant, he had to fight seriously and aim for the clothpiece from the very get-go. Else, he might lose this battle before he knew it. The adding of a small wager, anyone buying lunch for the other depending on the match's outcome wasn't really his idea for a good wager. Something else, more humiliating, more funny. More... Fun, would do the trick. But, the boy wasn't one to complain. "Hmmm... In that case, I'll make you treat me to Yakiniku when we're done here!!"
He took a fair distance from the girl, entering a fighting stance. Before charging recklessly into battle, Shikai took a small moment to recall exactly what the girl was capable of; what he was up against. They had not necessarily been in the same class year in the academy, which makes her skills generally unknown to the boy. What he did know, was that her Clan's abilities focused over transformation into birds. In that aspect, it should be easy for him to rival her by initiating some very fundamental techniques. But, nobody was to be underestimated. She probably had more intel on him than he had on her, putting the boy at a disadvantage. Even so, regardless of whatever tricks she had up her sleeve, Shikai had managed to form a good enough plan to swipe that cloth piece away from her face. That was his only target; his only purpose on this fight. If he had to exchange a few hits with Hitomi for that sake, so be it then. Neither of those two was going to have an easy way out of this fight.
"...I'm done. I've formed out my own little plan." He claimed, looking confident as ever. A flashy, flamboyant fighting style focused over approaching and taking hits; that was Shi the Barrier. Would it be efficient in this fight? Who knows. But that's the fun part. "So, come at me with all you've got!!" He declared.
The battle had begun.
Without even a second wasted, Shikai reached for his tools pocket on his thigh's back and threw a single Shuriken towards the girl. It was a random throw meant to basically make her move away while he takes preparations for his own strategy. Seeing how his skill in strength was most likely superior to hers, the force of his throw should prove better would she plan on perhaps deflecting it with a projectile of her own. But despite this move being the started of the spar, the Shuriken projectile flying towards his enemy left her with numerous ways to react. Anything would work: from taking it head on to dodging it somehow, even deflecting or defending against it. She could even brush it off, not move from her spot and allow the tool to go wasted.
But, Shikai was counting on that little gap of timing. Having some skill in Ninjutsu as well ensured that the blond had some good practice with hand seals. Performing a few was not going to be any problem for him. His Chakra molded already in accordance to the quick movements of his hands, Shikai was ready to initiate a Jutsu to mark the start of the fight.

451 | Hitomi’s muscles tensed as her teammate spoke, her teeth grinding together as she prepared herself for whatever Shikai threw at her. The Hane didn’t know what he was planning and she could only guess his strategy so far in advance before the practice became mute. Predicting moves on the battlefield had its uses, that Hitomi was certain of, but getting five or six moves before your enemy could leave you with a set strategy easily rendered useless. Just one new move from your foe could turn the whole plan upside down. There needed to be a perfect balance of prediction and action for it to work.
Yet, before Hitomi could even begin to think ahead, the battle had begun.
She saw the flash of metal as a shuriken flew at her. She couldn’t figure out where it was aiming, the throw had been too fast for that, but she knew it was coming. Not wanting to be impaled by the blade, Hitomi rolled onto her shoulder, ducking her head underneath her as she dodged out of the shuriken’s trajectory. Not even pausing to look at Shikai, Hitomi pushed off the ground, legs vaulting her forward as she ran diagonally away from her opponent. The Hane wanted to widen the berth between them, giving her enough time to analyze what his next move would be.
What will it be?... she wondered, eyes narrowing at Shikai.
The girl had missed anything Shikai had done as she dodged his shuriken and she didn’t exactly want to stand dumbly waiting around for him to attack her. Instead, Hitomi took this time to form her own seals, pulling her chakra to her hands as she scanned the ground before her. Perfect. She knew what she was going to do, but it all depending on what Shikai was doing and how close she could get to him. This wasn’t the kind of technique you did from long range.
Without wasting any more time, Hitomi ran forward again, her face set and determined. All she needed to do was take about six steps forward and then she could attack. Her plan? By skidding to a halt she would stomp on the ground, causing the dirt to become unsettled. Then she would force wind at the dirt and fly it into Shikai’s face, hopefully blinding him as she went in for the hat.
Rushing forward, Hitomi stopped, slamming her palms together. “Wind Release: Gale Palm!” She listened to the howl of wind as it tunneled forward, whipping up dust and dirt directly to Shikai- or where Shikai had been when he threw the shuriken.
“How’s that for planning, Shikai-kun?” Hitomi questioned, ready to rush at him again and take his hat.
((I'm ashamed how long it took me to write that *hides* And, as with battle threads feel free for anything to miss or not work- I think that's how these work? I'm still learning ><))

On Top Of The World "!!" She chose to avoid the Shuriken in a swift maneuver, rather react directly to the flying chunk of metal. That little amount of time at which she rolled was just enough as Shikai timed his technique at the correct moment. Observation was key here; analyzing the field came in first, to devise a strategy. What the boy was aiming for was not an upfront attack right away, however, as he would make the girl believe. "(Now! Bunshin no Jutsu!! [Clone Technique])" He thought to himself, creating two clones on his spot; two of which characters would hurriedly rush into the woods of the forest, leaving one in the clearing, bare for the Hane's tactics while the other two would speculate from afar.
Or, more like, prepare for the strike. The Shikai left in the Hane's field of vision was a clone; the real one was hiding in the trees, maneuvering his way in a hide as he watched the scene unfold, performing even more handseals. Expanding too much Chakra right off the bat would be a bad idea; but if he got to attain the clothpiece, it was all worth it. Shinobi were not meant to fight to watch their own back; they were to die for their villages. The mission always took priority to everything; including teammate lives. At the moment, any concern for the blond's Chakra would be easily redundant.
The clone present at the clearing with the Hane girl ran along with her, taken somewhat by surprise as she approached him with her tactics of dust - to blind, and quick Wind Release strike to knock him off. "Gyaah! Darn!..." As dust wasn't seriously capable of harming on its own, that wasn't enough to knock the clone's status away; he merely closed his eyes, defending his eyes. Taking on fully the impact of the Gale Palm. Well, that's what should have happened.
In a screen of smoke, a simple 'poof', the clone turned into white gas and disappeared into the air the moment Hitomi's Gale Palm technique made contact with him. The clone wasn't tangible, and Bunshin no Jutsu was one of the most basic techniques a Shinobi should know. But even the most basics should prove useful in battle. Elsewhere, in a rather long range away but a different angle, the real Shikai - and on the opposite, the other clone - were lurking. "Fuuton: Daitoppa no Jutsu!! [Wind Release: Great Breakthrough Technique]" The shout was rather loud, giving away the boy's location right away. But even if Hitmoi could pinpoint his location on sound alone, or by sensing, it didn't matter: it should take her more time to build the Chakra for a second serving of Gale Palm, especially after executing one only a second ago.
Again, Shikai's usage of his Wind Release technique was not directly to harm the girl: it was to boost himself directly to her. His back faced her and he blew his wind powerfully through his mouth at the opposite direction, in mid-air causing him to jet faster than any Genin or possibly Chuunin towards the woman. Despite the distance, he should be closing on her in no time at all. Best she could hope to do, with this momentum, was avoid; the problem was, another Shikai was coming at her from a different angle, which was the clone.
Preparing his arm for a strike, Shikai looked backwards with the upgraded speed while 'flying', twisting his body to land a hit. "Eruboo!! [Elbow]" Plain Taijutsu from accelerated close-range. Shikai the Barrier's upfront attack strategy. Not too bright, but not too shabby either. The problem imposed before Hitomi was mainly to decide which of the upcoming Shikais was the real one; the second problem, after deciding which, was how to react to an obviously more-painful-than-normal elbow strike to her mass' center.

739 | Wayward clumps of sand flicked back at Hitomi as she rushed forward, using her mini sand storm to spearhead the assault. She kept a few paces behind the initial attack, knowing that there could always be a chance Shikai had managed to do something during her roll right after he threw the shurriken. Hitomi understood that, knowing that he most likely had prepared some kind of move, be that defensive or offensive. Yet, if she lingered too long behind her sand and wind then the move was made for naught, blinding her teammate but giving him enough time to recover. Hitomi needed speed if she wanted to obtain her objective.
She had no clue of the moves Shikai had already taken.
Reaching out, Hitomi’s fingers closed on white smoke, small tendrils of it escaping her grasp. A clone! she hissed to herself, instantly snapping around to face the direction she had charged from. She should have known better than to think it would be this easy, as if that one little pallor trick of a move would win her their sparring game. Training was never that simple. Gritting her teeth together, Hitomi reached for sole kunai, yanking it out of its case.
She had no idea where the real Shikai laid waiting but she could figure it out. Her ‘expertise’ in the group was sensing, it’s what she put most of her training into outside of missions and practicing. It ran in her clan, in her blood. Leaving part of her mind focused on her current surroundings, Hitomi stretched her concentration and chakra. It unfurled away from her body like a flower in bloom, seeping out to spread and grope at the field.
It didn’t take long for Hitomi to find the two other balls of chakra in the small area, each flanking her. One was Shikai, that she knew, and another, the paler flicker of chakra, had to been his clone. But that was only an assumption based on what Hitomi felt. The Hane was still learning, still only a genin, and she could be wrong.
"Fuuton: Daitoppa no Jutsu!!
There!
Understanding that the objective of their training was to take the hat and not injure her partner, Hitomi kept her body facing to the Shikai she believed to be the clone. There was no way she could dodge either of her opponents, not with the speed that they were attacking, but she could rid herself of the clone and hopefully stall Shikai after taking his blow.
She could hear the wind break as Shikai and his clone raced through it. The (hopefully) clone's movements were almost a blur to her. But she didn’t give up and she didn’t stop. With a grunt, Hitomi threw her kunai at the clone, aiming for the center of its body. If she was right then it would disappear and if she was wrong…well, Shikai would have a new wound.
"Eruboo!!”
Now for the second part of her teammate's combo and it came from the side of Hitomi, not from the Shikai she’d just attacked. Pivoting to look at the next figure, Hitomi hurriedly gathered her chakra to try and force out her own attack. Yet, she had just preformed an attack and a sensory skill, she couldn’t possibly manage to slip in her move before she felt Shikai’s elbow dig into her side.
Gasping, Hitomi sucked in a breath of air only to have her it forcibly pushed out of her. The Hane gagged as she felt her lungs constrict as Shikai’s attack dug further into her side. Easily winded by the move, her stomach rolling in pain, Hitomi gritted against it and, with one shaky hand, she pushed her chakra out at Shikai.
“Kanashibari no Jutsu [Temporary Paralysis Technique],” Hitomi managed before taking a staggering step back as a wave of nausea ran over her. If the Hane was lucky, she will have managed to get the technique out correctly. That would give her enough time to recuperate from the daze she was in or at least prevent Shikai from strolling over to Hitomi and ripping off her masked as she gulped for air.
But if she was unlucky?
Then she’d be down in ryo very shortly.
Blinking against the throbbing pain in her core, Hitomi looked up, not knowing what to expect but trying to recover as quickly as possible.

On Top Of The World Bang. It worked wonders.
As soon as the clone made 'contact' with the target, it disappeared into white smoke as well, as the real Shikai's elbow strike dug right into his teammates' side. Sure, he was enthusiastic, but she was not sent backwards by the force of impact. The reason to that was simply, however: this was merely a sparring match. Shikai had to hold back; sending her flying in that force might as well could have broken her a rib or two, no matter what rank the technique was: in essence, a body weighing so much coming at that speed should be enough to cause any normal person to fall down defeated. Holding that hit back to a level at which Hitomi would still function, was the main problem.
But, she seemed alright, pulling out a Jutsu just as soon as Shikai started another handsign sequence. "Aaah, dammit!!" Now this, was impressive. Stuck in his place, twitching as he tried shaking himself out of the technique's binding, Shikai found himself standing with a single handsign formed, staring down at the girl he had just knocked off. Kanashobari no Jutsu was no technique any newbie could learn, especially not in battle: the ANBUs were sent for dangerous missions that required tricky tactics and great Chakra prowess to succeed. This technique was on their level; nothing a new kid should be able to pull off.
Prepared for the worst but counting greatly on the pain she most likely felt, the blond held his breath as he tried predicting his opponent's moves. As of now, that was only a matter of time before the spar continues properly. "(Well, since I can't move... This might be better like this.)" words: 000; tags: ppl; notes: short one, sorry... D: ;
