I'M GONNA DROWN YOU OUT BEFORE I LOSE MY MIND | It was just like any other day in sunny Iwagakure. She'd woken up to an empty house, aside from Shi, of course. But the man he owed his moniker to was nowhere to be found. This was unsurprising. Shintaro Sato was a self-proclaimed workaholic. Leaving her father a note she was certain he wouldn't even notice within the next few days, let alone read, she left her home with a small satchel and her eight-foot long Inland Taipan. The snake weaved around her limbs in a slow, rhythmic pattern and slowed her pace down considerably. He overwhelmed her smaller frame, and he wasn't light either. Still, her face showed little sign of struggle - in fact, it was completely void of emotion.
Weaving her way expertly through the stone huts, her purple eyes caught a glimpse of green in the distance. It was a vivid patch of color against all of the drab stone in a city that lacked visual interest. It may have been one of the best strongholds, but it was awfully drab. The walk from her home to the forest was a short twenty minutes long, and by far her longest workout of the day. The young Iwa Genin rarely spent her time practicing. Let alone finding a team and completing missions. Her days were better spent underneath the old willow tree. A book in hand and Shi coiled on her lap as the the two enjoyed the perfect amount of sun under the branches of the old willow. "Go, feed." she said simply, her voice devoid of tone and so quiet it was almost inaudible. She held out an arm for the snake to slither off as he plopped down onto the ground, disappearing into the brush to find breakfast. Fumiko set up shop under the old willow, opening her satchel and pulling out an assortment of items. A book on the architecture of all five great nations, a sweet snack, and a blanket in case it got too cold out. Shi in particular hated the bitter winds that would get trapped in the curves of the mountains.
Leaning her back against the rough bark of the tree, she settled in to read her book. Not even flinching at the shrill screech of Shi's victim as the snake prepared his breakfast nearby. Once he'd eaten, the snake returned to her, coiling on her lap obediently. |

Today, the cool breeze had picked up something else than just leaves. A cheery tune danced in the wind, flowing through the forest. It wasn’t quite singing, yet not whistling either. Someone was humming a simple melody, much like some sort of children’s song. In the silence, the feminine voice reached far. It was approaching slowly. Among the trees, a dark shadow skipped forward with light steps. A beam of sunlight uncovered a blonde woman dressed in a black jumpsuit. The forehead protector hanging around her waist like a belt revealed her to be from Konoha.
Oh yes, Hara Kin, the famous trickster Kitsune of Konoha, had traveled all the way to Iwa. It was a training mission, she had told people, but that was only half of the truth. Naturally, she wanted to keep her skills sharp, but mostly she was just killing time by visiting interesting places. There was never time for sightseeing during missions, so she had to come up with excuses. Not because she couldn’t be here, mind you. She was a Jounin and could do whatever she pleased. It was just that she didn’t want others finding out what she did on her free time. She enjoyed her enigmatic reputation too much.
Besides, she might even stumble upon some interesting secrets her travels...
As for why the Kitsune was in the middle of a forest right now... Well, it was simple really. Sure, she could’ve just used the roads like regular travelers, but where’s the fun in that? She had been drawn into this direction by something unusual. There had been a screech and she had caught a glimpse of what she could’ve sworn was a huge snake. That alone wasn’t anything special, but in the sunlight filtering through the leaves, the snake had seemed... golden. Now that was something you didn’t see every day. She simply had to track it down to get a better look.
Upon reaching the old willow tree, the dark clad woman stopped humming. When she spotted the golden snake coiled on the lap of a little girl, she tilted her head with a curious snicker. "My, oh my... Am I interrupting something?" Despite the playfully polite tone, she had no intention of actually leaving. Quite the opposite in fact. Hara snuck closer with soundless steps. Leaning closer with complete disregard for personal space, or the fact there was a huge snake right under her nose, the trickster tried to spy the cover of the book, then the pages. "Whatcha readin’?" And that was her icebreaker. Actual introductions could wait until she had sated her curiosity.
...Which might’ve taken a while actually.

I'M GONNA DROWN YOU OUT BEFORE I LOSE MY MIND | Despite the amazing pictures and descriptive captions the book in her tiny hands provided, the young Iwa Genin could feel her head dip sleepily, bobbing back up with the determination to finish her current page. Only for the struggle to begin again as she started a new page. She could feel the warmth of Shi's fully belly as he lay coiled in her lap. His golden scales basking in the sunlight, drinking it's rays and absorbing its warmth. The Inland Taipan was like a circular heated blanket, draped over her lap and lulling her to sleep under the protective shade of the old willow tree. Perhaps she'd dream of the lush forests outside of Konohagakure, or the steep waterfalls of Kirigakure.
Failing to pay attention to her surroundings as she fought off the wave of exhaustion, her grip on her book loosened, gently tapping Shi and causing the snake's eyes to open, his tongue flickering ever so slightly as he watched his owner. Her eyes gave the snake a silent 'sorry' as she tightened her grip on the book once more.
"Whatcha readin'?"
The question caught Fumiko by surprise, though her reaction was fairly mild. If the foreign kunoichi expected her to jump, then she was surely sorely disappointed by Fumiko' wide eyed gaze and lips that pushed in to form a small, curious 'o'. Shi, on the other hand, was not as happy to see the woman, uncoiling slowly on her lap, head raising to give a warning hiss.
"Architecture of the Shinobi World." she answered softly, raising the book so that the foreign kunoichi could see the cover. But she had little interest in that now. Setting the book down beside her, she stared at the woman for a moment, her gaze traveling downwards as she took in the woman's appearance. Her gaze eventually settled on the forehead protector the woman wore around her waist, "Konohagakure." she answered, as though they were playing a guessing game. With the book now out of his way, Shi coiled around Fumiko's arm, traveling upwards toward her shoulder where he'd be better positioned to attack should this foreigner prove dangerous. |

While looming over the girl, Hara didn’t even flinch where saner people would’ve taken a step back from the hissing snake. Little things like fear and common sense had no hold over her. However, she gagged exaggeratedly at the mere name of the book. "Blech. Booooring." She had been hoping for a storybook, not... that. It sounded like something an old geezer would read. No wonder the poor kid looked and sounded like she was about to doze off. Surely this had to be some sort of cruel and unusual punishment. But it ended now, thanks to the fortunate intervention from the heroic Hara Kin!
The smiling kunoichi nodded at the girl’s note. "Yup, that’s right!" Taking a good, long look at the kid, she pretended to ponder. "Hm, and I’m going to make the wild guess that you are from Iwagakure." Well, it didn’t exactly take a genius to figure out, but Hara loved guessing games, even pretended ones. However, her attention slowly but surely drifted onto the snake. The way it moved around the girl made it seem more like a bodyguard than a simple pet. This just kept getting more interesting.
After a short moment of staring, the Kitsune snickered and glanced at the girl. "I get this distinct impression that your friend doesn’t like me." She had considered a staring contest, but she was pretty sure snakes never blinked. Sneaky little cheaters. Instead, the trickster settled for another question. "Is he this, mhm, cold-blooded around everyone, or should I feel special?" Seemingly without a single shed of care, Hara reached out, trying to gently poke the golden creature. She wasn’t going to hurt it, oh no, she just wanted to touch it. Despite the mask of carelessness, however, she was at full alert and ready to pull back immediately if it tried to bite.

I'M GONNA DROWN YOU OUT BEFORE I LOSE MY MIND | Fumiko's head cocked to the side at the mysterious woman's exaggerated gag. Boring? Of course not. The structures were captivating, as was the many pictures of the scenery that bordered each village. They were all sights the young Iwa Genin longed to see. But she was trapped within the confines of rock, buried under it shadow, and never allowed to leave. That is, unless her ranking improved. Jounin were allowed to come and go as they pleased. A Konohagakure Jounin then? She nodded to herself, certain she'd pegged the foreign woman correctly.
"Yes," she nodded as the woman correctly guessed where they were. Though after the extensive research she'd done on the other lands via the book she'd been reading, she'd concluded that no two lands looked alike. Only a fool would get lost.
Even as the woman leaned forward, taunting Shi with a lithe finger, she knew this woman was no fool. Shi's mouth opened ever so slightly as he bared his fangs in warning. Tongue flickering in a hiss that only grew in volume as her finger came closer. At the last second, the snake met his mistress' emotionless gaze. There seemed to be an unspoken conversation there in those few seconds. Though there was no hint in Fumiko's demeanor as to whether or not the outcome would bode well for the foreigner.
"He's always like this." she said simply, watching as the Inland Taipan retracted his venomous fangs and allowed the woman to poke him. His tongue curiously flicked against her wrist, as though the secret to her intentions was there. "Though you're special enough not to be bitten." she added, the smallest hint of a smile tugging at the flat line her lips had formed.
"What do they call you?" |

He dragged his feet through the streets of Iwa, ignoring the gazes of those around him. He'd grown used to people glancing in his direction before looking away - people always did it. It didn't stop him from feeling like punching every single damned one of them, but he knew that if he tried it, he'd be punching people all day and never get anything done. So the red-head continued on, not caring for their hushed whispers behind his back. There weren't a lot of things he particularly cared about. He didn't care about the village. He didn't care about the orphanage. He didn't care about the Tsuchikage. He definitely didn't care about his team, whoever they were. The only thing the young man ever claimed to care about was strength and money. He only cared about being a Shinobi because it meant he could acquire both. All he had to do was punch out every bastard who tried to challenge him. But maintaining his strength required training, and the red-head wasn't fond of people in general. He wanted to get away from the people and the village and train on his own. He stepped beyond the boundaries of the village and climbed up the rocks. He navigated his way across the landscape until eventually he could find a small spot he sometimes went for training. Little did he realize, however, that as soon as he had arrived, someone had already beaten him to it. Worse still, there were two of them. "Tch. Figures," he remarked as he approached, folding his arms in front of himself. He glared at the two of them. "Just when I think I've found the perfect spot, two little shits decide to stink up the place". TAG: Fumiko, Smiley. WORDS: I dunno. NOTES: Nothing.

The trickster gleefully prodded the snake, pleasantly surprised that she didn’t have to watch for her fingers or use her paralyzing jutsu. For a moment there, the golden creature had seemed less than happy about the intrusion. Luckily, the mysterious girl had intervened before the thing had tried to sink its fangs into certain someone. Or so Hara guessed at least. The mood change had been so quick that the girl must’ve had some say in it. The trickster didn’t care enough to actually ask though. Instead, she just enjoyed the sensation. The scales felt funny, the strange sort of smooth and dry. And she had always thought snakes were slimy. You learn something new every day.
Having sated her curiosity towards the snake, Hara withdrew her hand and shifted her focus onto the girl. "Is that so? Well, I’m glad. Your golden friend looked so scary I was about to cry." It was a tiny bit of truth covered it blatant lies. She merely smirked when the girl asked for a name. "Oh, they call me many things." Taking a step, she spun around and round while snickering under her breath. "The Harlequin, Smiley, Joker, 'Hey you, stop doing that' and more..." She came to a slow stop and bowed deeply. "But you can call me... Kitsune." Of course she didn’t reveal her real name that easily. Nicknames were far more fun.
"And who might you be?"
Before the playful kunoichi could joke some more, another new voice stole her attention. The closed eyes of the foxy woman darted onto the red-haired boy. Well, that wasn’t very polite, was it? Without wasting a beat, she flashed a bright smile. "Hee, didn’t your mommy teach you how to talk to girls?" Sticking out her tongue, she teased the boy. "Don’t worry though... I know what you meant to say... And that was only the second worst pick-up line I’ve ever heard~" When it came to trading words, the Kitsune wasn’t easily outplayed.

I'M GONNA DROWN YOU OUT BEFORE I LOSE MY MIND | Fumiko watched silently as the mysterious woman's lithe fingers glided across Shi's golden scales. The snake only seemed to tolerate the eager woman at his mistress' request, however. Still, she looked like she was having fun, and it was over soon enough. As soon as the woman had her fill, Shi was quickly to slither off Fumiko's lap, retreating up into the old willow tree. He stayed on a low branch, coiling around it lightly so that he wouldn't fall. Auburn colored eyes kept an ever watchful gaze on the two, his tongue flickering every few minutes as though a reminder that he was still here.
The woman took a step away from her, twirling about as she answered her question with many names. Each said between bouts of laughter. None of them were names she'd heard before. Iwagakure was so dreadfully boring. She'd grown rather fond of the old willow tree behind her, and at the thought, she brought her small hand up to it's trunk. Dragging her fingers across the rough bark, ignoring any splinters or minor cuts she incurred along the way. If she'd been hurt, her expression did little to reflect this. In fact, if it weren't for the light rise and fall of her chest with each breath, she'd appear to be nothing more than a life sized doll. But she was alive. And clearly she needed to get out of Iwagakure, see the sights. Visit Konohagakure where strange people named 'Harlequin', 'Smiley', or 'Joker' twirled about. Even if it meant saying goodbye to her favorite tree.
"Fumiko." she answered softly, the words almost inaudible over the appearance of a new face. The Iwa Genin had sensed him walking towards them for a while now. His chakra was every bit as loud and angry as he appeared to be in person. Making it even easier for the budding sensor to pick up on him.
"Hmmm." she mused aloud, violet eyes tracing the points of his fiery red hair. So many interesting people today. |

"I'll talk however I feel like," he responded, practically growling at the older woman. Her comment got a little under his skin, and the young Genin wasn't a particularly patient person. He caught notice of the woman's forehead protector, quickly figuring out that the woman wasn't from the village. "And I'm definitely not gonna take orders from someone who isn't even from the village". It wasn't like he ever took orders from anyone inside the village, of course, but if he was going to take orders from anyone, it was incredibly unlikely it'd be from someone outside the village. He didn't know a lot about the other villages - all he knew was that he definitely didn't like them. Before he could do or say anything more however, the woman was quick to insinuate that the young man was attempting to flirt. Frowning a little more, he continued to stare at the older woman. "Like I'd flirt with a hag," he told her, nearing the limits of his patience. He wasn't exactly one for restraint, and even now he was doing an impressive job of not punching her considering his usual limits. She'd already crossed a line without even knowing it, and the young man was very close to ignoring the voice in his head telling him to keep calm and just punch her lights out. This was his spot, after all. "Now, are you going to get lost or am I gonna have to make you leave?" he questioned, looking between the two of them. The other girl hadn't really spoken yet, but he wasn't particularly fond of letting her stick around either. When he originally found this place, he'd intended to find some time away from people. He was not going to let them stick around. TAG: Fumiko, Smiley. WORDS: I dunno. NOTES: Nothing.

The trickster just barely caught the name over the new distraction. Fumiko, hm, the girl seemed awfully meek. I need to do something about that... But first... Hara’s focus shifted back onto the red-haired boy. He was headstrong, she would give him that. Smirking she folded her arms and nodded, mockingly approving the brash behavior. "Heh, that’s a good attitude. Don’t take orders from anyone. That’s how I do things too." Well, that was only mostly true. There was one person whose orders she followed. ...When she felt like it at least.
Hara gasped at the insult with a borderline theatrical shock. "Ah, a hag?! Oh dear, I’m not that old..." She glanced at the blonde girl, as if seeking for comfort. "Am I?" If there was one type of insult that hit home every time, it was when people brought up her age. Sure, she was quick to brush it off, but it did remind her that she couldn’t stay young forever... However, she regained her smile soon enough. It was just so funny. These two were like polar opposites in every respect. Both piqued her interest with their own quirks. She was going to have so much fun playing with them. And now... It was just the matter of picking a game to play...
Luckily, someone already had that covered.
When the agitated boy presented his ultimatum, Hara clasped her hands together excitedly. "Ooh, that sounds fun~! It’s like playing King of the Hill, right?" It was one of her favorite games too, though she guessed this boy wasn’t the type to play games. Too bad, he would play anyway. He just didn’t know it yet~ Laughing, the trickster spread her arms and taunted her opponent. "Well, what are you waiting for, Reddy Crueler?" A sly smile played on her lips as she playfully beckoned the boy closer and bowed her head. "The first hit is free..." Needless to say, the Kitsune was lying, baiting the boy into what would’ve turned out to be a painful trap.
