biography Shion was born to civilian parents under the name of Kirishima Sumiko. The circumstances behind her birth were not the greatest. Her father and mother, were on the verge of a break-up, and their arguments shook the little building that was their home. When the poor girl was finally born, her father loudly claimed that her mother was a whore and that the child was not his, and left. It was easy for him to do, as the couple had never married. Though her mother furiously denied these claims, but the damage was done. In a fit of childish anger, she cast away the baby who had "brought her shame," never bothering to name her. It was a kind hospital lady who finally named the girl Sumiko, and after much persuasion, the shamed mother agreed to take care of her child. The sense of worth that came with raising a baby girl wore off after a few years though, and by the time Sumiko was four, her mother despised her. Due to her terrifying right eye, she was often called a "demon child," and she reputedly scared away all the customers from their small, rundown bakery. Not that many customers came in the first place, but even so, it was her daughter the woman who ran the shop blamed, and so nights were filled with angry screaming that winded down to anguish and self-pity. On particularly bad nights, she threw things—beer bottles, books, burning cigarette butts, whatever she could get her hands on—at her tiny daughter. If only you had never been born, she lamented, sobbing. Despite her mother's childish displays of rage and sorrow, Sumiko herself never shed any tears in front of her mother. She tended to her own injuries and never breathed a word to anyone outside of her home about her mother's violent tendencies. Too young to go to school, she didn't have many adults who she could tell anyway, and though the store clerks questioned how a child not even ten could possibly be buying things like groceries and hand-me-down clothes, they soon stopped prying. It didn't really matter, since business was business. And even if they asked, Sumiko never told. She taped her right eye shut with medical tape and grew her bangs out to cover it, so no one new she met would know of her demonic eye. Growing up the way she did, Sumiko became more mature than most kids her age. By the age of eight, she could cook and sew, though neither were without painful attempts and countless failures. She had also started to attend school, so she was careful to hide her eye and the injuries her mother inflicted on her. It was only after she started school that a hate for her mother began to fester. Family was not what she and her mother were, and if she was to define "mother" and "daughter," her mother would be the one in the daughter slot. For the first time, she voiced her opinion to her distraught mother. This is not what a mother would do, she said sadly, but her mother was not amused. The beatings and accusations only grew worse from there. Sumiko's hatred only smoldered. At the age of nine, she met a boy her age who was not unlike herself. You have beautiful eyes were his first words to her, and for the first time, the girl almost cried. No one had ever told her her eyes, cursed as they were, were pretty. No one until this dreamy boy, and she was infinitely grateful for his kind words. The boy was from what he called a "hidden shinobi village," and he told her that he had run away from home because his parents had neglected him. Thrilled to have found a companion that understood her suffering, the girl didn't hesitate to befriend the boy, and the two became close friends. She helped him with food and clothes, and in turn, he became her confidant. Even after she told him of why she hid her right eye, he still sincerely insisted that her eyes were still beautiful, and that if nobody loved them, then he would. When Sumiko turned ten, she finally decided to let her friend see her eye. After showing it to him and telling him of its strange quirks, the boy sighed. He knew of what the things that the eye saw meant, and decided to take her back to his village. You have it in you to become a kunoichi, he told her with a smile. If it's for you, then I'd go back even if I didn't want to. But Sumiko only shook her head. I can't, was her answer. I have to look after Okaa-san. Ten days later, and the boy had devised a plan to let the both of them leave. It was a simple plan, but at first, Sumiko was apprehensive. She wasn't sure it would work, and she was scared of the consequences. Her friend reassured her otherwise. Trusting in his judgement, the girl prepared for her departure. She didn't have much to bring with her, so it hadn't taken long. At midnight on the night of the next full moon, she waited in the living room for her friend to arrive and for the thing they had to do before. When he finally came, knocking softly on the door, she let him in. The two stared at each other for a long while, tense at the knowledge of what they were about to do. Quietly, the two crept into her mother's room. Then, staring at the woman's sleeping face, the two of them both grasped the tantou the boy had brought with him and sank it into her chest. A sigh, and then nothing. Neither of the two showed any remorse for their crime, and wordlessly, they pulled out the tantou and smeared each other's hands with the blood that had coated it. It was their silent oath to never forget, and to never tell. This event would be secret that both would take to the grave, and both understood that if they told, they would be damned forever. After washing the blood off their hands in the bathroom sink, the two grabbed their stuff and fled to Sunagakure, the boy's hometown. They were welcomed (in the boy's case, back) with open arms, though Sumiko was treated with suspicion at first. After a small interrogation and with her friend backing her claims, she was eventually accepted within the village and was granted a room at her friend's house. With the murder of her mother, the girl decided to change her name to Shion, a flower whose meaning in the Japanese language of flowers as "remembrance." She ditched her family name; she had no family now, and she cut her long hair and parted her bangs to become a different person. With her friend, she was entered into the academy and graduated to become a Genin with ease. It was during her time as a Genin that she finally managed to figure out the workings of her Mushokugan and fully use it to her advantage. A year later, she took the Chuunin Exam and managed to pass again, though not without difficulties. After she and her friend both successfully became Chuunin, the latter mysteriously disappeared. Two years later, and she still hasn't seen hide nor hair of him, but she continues to wait, though she's slowly resigning herself to the fact that her friend may not return. Despite this, she is, for the most part, happy to be where she is now. | ooc info ☆ NAME fernweh ☆ OTHER CHARACTERS Kiyoshi Hane Ienori Hoshino ☆ FACE CLAIM KATEKYO HITMAN REBORN!
