True to the Akiyama, Shin follows his people's aesthetics with a long mane of red hair and brown eyes. Unlike his cousin who keeps her hair pinned up, Shin never ties his back, not even during missions or when he's hot. For him it is a symbol of an old family and when his hair flows, when he is complimented on it not by how 'handsome' it looks, but by how akin to blood the shade is, that is when Shin feels his best. Shin sees his maroon locks as a river of blood cascading down his shoulders, down his back. He drowns himself in it.
Shin stands at 6'2 but thinks nothing of the height as he's not one to preoccupy himself with looks.
Being a humble man, Shin wears nothing but black robes, constantly in mourning of his lost family and as a way not to bring attention to himself. There is nothing flashy about the Akiyama though some could say the tribal tattoos on his body denote otherwise. When asked about the tattoos that cover most of his body Shin will shrug the question away but rumors have it that the marks are somehow connected to his cousin and Kage's similar tribal markings. That has not been confirmed or denied.
Though none of this is important or not as important as when Shin battles. Because he is endowed with Jinton and specializes in medical ninjitsu Shin becomes covered in blood quite quickly in a battle. At times it is his blood, other times it is those of who he heals. When Shin finally stops it often appears as if he is weeping blood, especially if the substance is on his face. Given his past and nickname, it is an appropriate portrayal. |
The paths after death and destruction are many, turning some men into brutes, others shut down, and some, like Shin, turn to gods. Upon the death of his parents and the loss of his family, Shin Akiyama had a spiritual awakening to a large pantheon of ancient deities. Shin is a very religious man and holds his faith close to him, almost as close as he values his surviving family. And while some practitioners , or whatever title the holy may wish to go by, abstain from killing and other acts that a shinobi excels in, Shin sees it as a release of his soul to the gods and that every action he does, so long as it is done to the best of his extent and done with only that purpose in his mind, then it serves as a kind of worship. It all brings Shin closer to his enlightenment. Religious duties aside, Shin is a family man and honoring his elders and village is a large part of his identity. In truth, Shin would be nothing without his older cousin and Kazekage, Demiyah. She and her sister took him in when Shin had nothing and over the years Shin and Demiyah have grown closer together. There is only one person who would come before Shin's religious duties, before his own life, and that is his lady Kage. Because of that it has kept Shin from entering a monastery and abandoning the shinobi life together. Putting Demiyah before his gods also makes the more conservative local monks displeased with Shin, stating he will never find enlightenment trapped to physical attachments.
Living and practically being raised by Demiyah, aspects of Shin easily reflect that of the kage, especially in the way he rarely shows his emotions on his face. Even in the midst of battle with comrades dying or when talk of his family's death Shin stays placid. Yet, Shin is not all Demiyah, is not all master of emotions, and when he sees his living family, specifically Demiyah, injured or insulted, there is a flare of something bloodthirsty in the man's eyes. The death of those who threaten his Kage is something he enjoys. Shin will often get up close and personal in these kinds of kills so he can watch his victim’s life force fade from their eyes. It is another mark against the holy man.
Shin is obsessive about his rituals and team and he takes his time to do things correctly. If a single ritual is interrupted, the right tool not used, a mantra uttered incorrectly, then he has to restart. If someone continues to interrupt him, he will turn angry- only his Kage may intrude upon his prayers. As for the team, Shin spends overtime making sure that his fellows are practicing, reviewing reports, checking in with the Kazekage, and training. He is anal about these things as he is next in line after Demiyah herself for the group.
What Shin secretly longs for, however, something that he tries to keep away from others in case they ridicule him for it, is a wife. Blood is his world, his queer fascination, and for the Akiyama line to continue if Shin wants to rebuild what was destroyed, he needs a wife. There is also a tenderness in Shin's attitude about this, a sign his heart still beats.
Blood still runs through him no matter how much has been spilled.
Having a strange connection to blood Shin sometimes preforms unusual experiments to test out different techniques and blood jutsus. In a way it helps him cope with his loss. He has no idea if anyone else knows about these experiments or how they feel about them. |
To repeat anything about Shin Akiyama's life before he was nine would be a cruel injustice to what he has accomplished since then. In fact, it would be trivial to Shin seeing how the life he had for close to a decade of his life is so unlike the one he lives now that he doesn't bother talking about it. When Shin starts his timeline he starts with that night. The night he lost his parents and a majority of his family. The night he became the son of blood- Sunagakure's twisted survivor. Shin's mother told him to hide and that's what he did. A small child who did know better, who was aware of the slaughter, but hadn't even started his training yet. Shin never knew the teenager who killed his parents and clan but he saw him. Fear had a face.
When daylight broke and then noon rolled by Shin Akiyama still hadn't been found. He heard voices, especially those of his two cousins, but was too numb to move. They had to pull Shin from the wreckage of his home, the blood of his parents blanketing the poor boy as they tugged him free. Medics ran over as soon as they caught sight of Shin but were astonished to see he had no wounds on him. All that blood, they whispered, all that blood and none of it his.
All that blood and none of it his.
Orphaned, Shin was taking in by his cousins but the rumors and tales of the horror spread around him. Whispers asking who son was he, replies of blood. How can a child be a son of a corpse? Of a dying family? Shin buried himself in Demiyah's protection and care, offering her equal support as she made her way up the ranks.
His second year in the Academy, Shin became obsessed with the substance that named him and a forgotten religion. He learned under Demiyah the family line's Kekkei Genkai and Shin focused his studies on a strange mix of medical and blades. The boy was strange but he was loved. After completing the Chuunin exams Shin seemed to fade away from the limelight after that, sticking close to the Kage's residence and the nearby shrines. During this time he practiced longer with medicine, bukijutsu, and his faith.
Shin would've vowed himself to a monastery if his cousin and Kage hadn't enlisted his help with her special team. Now, back in action, Shin is starting to feel alive again but his old habits and obsessions, they have not gone away. | ooc info
