Amaterasu stared up toward the mountain pass, heaving a heavy sigh. It was good to be back out on missions, that was for sure. The only difference was that now she could work them on her own, with the help of Ares of course. The young ram was trotting along quietly next to her for once, his eyes on the path ahead. She lifted an eyebrow, not saying anything as she picked up the pace. Climbing the mountain paths were the worst. Running back down them on Ares's back was the best part of going into the mountains. She couldn't think about that now, though. She had a mission to complete.
Kumogakure was in need of some rare medicinal herbs that could only be found in these mountains. They were hard to find and extremely fragile once picked. Their oils, however, made some of the most potent antibiotics that you could obtain. It was one of the most coveted plants of Kumogakure's medical corps, and Amaterasu had been sent out to obtain it for them. The young jounin didn't mind, though. She enjoyed exploring and climbing mountains was one of her favorite past times. It was easy to get lost in the patters on the edges of the rocks and the veins of previous metals that appeared here and there throughout the climb. She was also just keeping her eyes out for the herbs, as they sometimes grew out the sides of the mountain edges. 'So far, nothing,' she noted silently to herself. 'Have the frosts of these mountains killed them all off?' she continued on, her mind mulling over the possibility.
The duo slowly moved up to the top of their current path, turning on the corner and starting up the next path. This one would lead straight to the summit. "How does it feel to be back in the mountains, Ares?" she asked, giving the large ram a sideways look. He snorted at her, shaking his head, his long fur along his neck blowing lightly in the breeze, "They're mountains, Amaterasu. They all look the same to me." Amaterasu frowned at him, "What's got your horns twisted, grumpy?" The ram looked surprised, "I'm not grumpy. Just looking for the herbs... LIKE THOSE UP THERE!"
Ama paused, looking around the side of the mountain, slowly bringing her gaze up toward where Ares was pointing with his long horns. There they were. A massive bunch of them too! Ecstatic, Amaterasu slowly slipped her pack off her back, setting it against the base of cliff. 'It'll be safe here,' she made a mental note of where she'd left her pack, walking right up next to Ares who was still hopping eagerly. "They told me to get as much of it as I could, so we'll have to continue up to the summit to see if we can find more after this," she noted, slowly climbing up onto Ares's back. Balancing carefully, she stepped lightly across the rams back, standing on his head as Ares slowly moved up to stand on his back legs, pressing his hooves into the cliff face to keep himself steady. "That's as high as I can get. Hold on while I reach and cut the herbs down," Amaterasu noted down at Ares with a grin. Performing a few hand seals, she lifted her hand up toward the herbs. "Mokuton: Hand Tool Manipulation," she said strongly, her pointer and middle finger forming into the two blades of wooden scissors. She clipped the entire bundle of herbs off at the middle, knowing that the plant would grow back even thicker as time progressed, as long as she didn't cut out the roots. She plucked up the bundle of herbs, her right hand turning back to normal. Ares lowered them both back down to the ground and Ama jumped off his back to land steadily on her feet. "There. Let me just wrap these now," she noted, turning back toward her bag.
Amaterasu froze then, her gaze staring hard at the place she knew she'd set her pack. Where the hell had it gone? She blinked, the herbs still in hand. "What? ARES! DID YOU HIDE MY PACK?!" she suddenly screeched, turning on her heel to look at the horse-sized animal. Ares gave yet another snort, "What? NO! YOU WERE STANDING ON MY HEAD THE ENTIRE TIME! HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO HIDE YOUR PACK!?" Amaterasu marched right up to the ram, "Where did you hide it Ares?" she asked darkly, illiciting yet another snort from her companion. "I didn't hide it, Ama. Something must have picked it up and carried it off," he said, his gaze following along the path. He seemed to squint, trotting forward a few steps. "I could have sworn that I just saw a snake disappear around the bend."
The seafoam haired woman turned on her heel, staring in the same direction, her gaze following a thick trail through the dirt that appeared to form from the pack all the way up the remaining path to the summit. "Ares. Let's go beat the hell out of a snake," she said crossly, opening the bag that Ares was carrying on his back and slipping out a large plastic bag that she put the herbs into for safe keeping. She put the bag back in his pack, motioning for him to follow her. Storming up the path of the mountain, it wasn't long until they had reached the summit of the mountain. Sitting in the middle was a large snake who was... using her pack as a pillow. A dumbfounded expression formed on Amaterasu's features and she let out an "Eh?" of confusion. Ares was almost rolling on the ground he was laughing so hard. "SHUT UP, ARES!" Amaterasu snapped, knocking the ram in the head with her fist. He promptly stopped laughing, falling onto his side, dazed. He lay there, not moving.
The snake was woken by the exchange, lifting his head to observe. It gave a hiss in warning as Amaterasu approached it. "Oh hell no. You aren't going to keep my pack, you pest," she grumbled, forming a few hand seals as she walked. "Kanashibari no Jutsu," she muttered right as the snake lunged. Amaterasu side-stepped, whacking the snake in the head the same way she'd just struck Ares a few moments before. The snake let out a weak hiss, his body suddenly going limp as her chakra paralyzed him. It was then that Amaterasu paused, observing the snake. "OH MY GOSH! YOU'RE THAT COLD WEATHER SNAKE THAT THEY TOLD ME ABOUT!" an evil expression formed on Amaterasu's features and she quickly opened her pack, taking out a few small jars with a rubber substance over the top. Prying the snakes jaws open, she extracted two jars of it's venom from its fangs before slipping the jars into the pack.
Knowing the snake would be able to move again pretty soon, she ran over to Ares who'd just stood back up on all four hooves. "DID YOU HAVE TO HIT ME?!" he cried at her. "Shut up! Let's run before it wakes up!" she yelled back at him, hopping up onto his back. "Turn your ass around and lets get the hell off this mountain!" she noted, letting out a hoot of excitement as Ares turned on his hooves and started running down all the mountain paths. In fact, he ran them all the way back to Kumogakure. Amaterasu brought all the herbs and the venom right to the head medic of Kumogakure, Ares now trotting beside her in his tiny ram form.
"Did everything go smoothly?" the head medic asked Amaterasu with a kind smile. Ama flushed a slight shade of pink, "Oh! It was fine! There was no trouble at all!" she said, grinning and scratching the back of her head nervously. The head medic didn't look convinced, but before she could even ask what had happened, they had run out of the door and into the streets of Kumogakure, heading right toward the Kage's residence.
