The young Kuzashi grumbled in his sleep, rolling over and curling tighter under his blankets. The birds causing a ruckus outside of his window were the only thing that he could hear as he was slowly pulled from a deep sleep. Lifting his hand, he rapped his knuckles on the glass, trying to get them to go away. The noise only grew louder, causing the Genin's eyes to pop right open and for him to sit up, glaring out the window. "Go away or I'm going to roast you..." he said darkly. The birds fluttering there took one look at groggy Yuudai and instantly flew away, leaving him in peace.
He fell backwards against his pillow, closing his eyes and trying to get back to sleep, pulling the blankets over his head. After a few long moments he let out a frustrated grumble and threw his blankets off, kicking them onto the floor. "Damn birds," he growled, swinging his legs around and settling his feet on the cold floor. He rubbed groggily at his eyes, shuffling out of his bedroom and into the living room. The kitchen was just off to the side, though he didn't really register the out of place form sitting at his table.
Yuudai wasn't very observant in the mornings, that was for sure. He shuffled around, picking up scrolls and books from the nights training session and then stacked them all neatly together, his mind still fuzzy from his interrupted sleep. His feet scuffed against the floor as he wandered into the kitchen, throwing open the fridge and pulling out the carton of milk. He opened it, sniffing at the opening only to turn a little green in the face. "Sour milk. Great," he grumbled. One of the many things to put him into a horrid mood, it seemed. Staggering over to the sink, he dumped the milk, throwing the carton into the trash can. "I guess its toast and jam, then," he muttered to himself, pulling the loaf of bread toward him. 'Moldy,' he thought, staring at it with an expression that should have set the bread on fire by then. Another thing thrown into the garbage.
Muttering to himself, he put the kettle on the stove, facing away from the table as he waited for it to heat up. He took an instant ramen cup down from the cupboard and cracked it open a bit, pouring the water inside once it had come to a boil. Yuudai let it rest a moment and then brought it to the table, starting to eat. Yet, his eyes caught sight of something unfamiliar at his table. A mouth full of instant ramen, he looked up slowly, staring right at his older brother. Shocked and startled, Yuudai kicked at the table, effectively forcing himself backwards, the chair falling back with him in it. The ramen cup came with, spilling all over Yuudai. After painfully choking down the food in his mouth, he let out a yelp, "HOT HOT HOT!"
The genin then jumped up to his feet, pointing in alarm at Yamada. "WHEN DID YOU GET HERE?! HOW DID YOU GET IN?!"

Yamada had not even acknowledged that his younger brother had gotten out of bed. Nor did he pay any attention when the young man had walked right by him into the kitchen. He was nose deep in book and figured that eventually the boy would notice him and they could begin their standard brotherly greeting. Much to Yamada's personal enjoyment though, Yuudai failed to even see him sitting at the table. As the boy sat down and started to eat it finally clicked and his presence seemed to scare the living shit out of Yuudai.
"WHEN DID YOU GET HERE?! HOW DID YOU GET IN?!"
Yamada didn't even look up from his book as the young man pointed a finger at him and started making a racket. He just shoved his thumb over his shoulder, pointing to a window that hadn't been latched the night before that was still sitting open. The sound of a small chuckle could be heard and a smirk could clearly be seen on his face, even from behind the book.
"You really have to work on those perceptual skills. How do you think you're ever going to get to my level?" Finishing off the page he was reading he slammed it shut and slid it into the inner pocket on his overcoat. After readjusting his position in the chair he rested his one arm on his crossed legs and looked straight at Yuudai. "You know, learning to control that temper could go a long way in becoming a better shinobi." He mocked the boy, referring to his screaming match with the singing birds earlier. Yamada's smile still ever present.

The eighteen year old genin composed himself a few moments after he finished yelling at his bigger brother, brushing himself off. He was soaked in the broth from his ramen cup and noodles littered the floor. It didn't really bother him. Messes were easy enough to clean up. He just had to get over the shock and surprise of his brother suddenly showing up in his apartment, unannounced and out of nowhere. "My perceptual skills are fine. I just didn't expect you to break into my apartment just because I left a stupid window open. I don't have air conditioning and it's hot in this place at night... why am I complaining about heat?" he muttered the last part to himself as an offhand thought, rubbing his face.
"And you know just as well as I do, I don't have anger issues. I just don't like being woken up," he made the excuse, knowing very well that he was bullshitting just a little bit. While he never got outright angry, he always bottled his emotions up. They exploded all at once from time to time, of course. Yuudai having been disowned was proof enough that sometimes his anger could get out of his own control. All the other times, he was always able to brush everything off, having built up a shell against the comments and insults that were thrown at the Kuzashi and other shinobi around the village.
Sighing to himself, he grabbed a cloth, starting to clean up his ramen mess, throwing the noodles and cup into the trash. He than grabbed a mop from a small closet, starting to mop up the broth. He set his sights on his older brother then, his expression turning curious. "So what did you need, nii-chan?" he asked calmly, glancing back down to the floor to make sure that he was getting all of the mess. "And don't tell me its about my fight with dad, because you know where the door is," he said simply, refusing to talk about their father. Of course he was still angry and upset about being disowned, but he didn't agree with much of the older Kuzashi's beliefs or actions. Yuudai had worked for everything he had by himself, and he wasn't going to start whining for their father now. He was only enough to be on his own, and the land lady was giving him a discount on rent until Yuudai could get up in rank and could make more money from his missions. | ◀ MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS |

"Our Father is as short tempered as you are. I have no interest in getting in the middle of that spat." Yamada paused before getting up and making his way over to the kitchen counter. He grabbed the still hot kettle and poured himself a glass, then taking out a tea bag and dipping it into his cup. "You know though, you really ought to check in with Mother. She worries about you." As he spoke he made his way back to the table and sat down again, this time starring straight at his kid brother.
Because of the animosity between himself and the clan up until recently he had missed out on spending any time with Yuudai. To make matters worse when he had finally patched things up with the clan Yuudai had already decided he didn't like how the clan worked and was on poor terms with them. Yamada couldn't help but feel that this was partially his fault because of his career choices. Only recently though had things fallen into such a poor state that Yuudai was not even allowed at home anymore and had been forced to find a new residence. In truth that was the main reason Yamada had stopped by. It was important to him to make sure that his younger brother was doing alright on his own. Yuudai wouldn't like the idea of being checked up on though so Yamada made sure to have another legitimate reason for being there as well.
"Well now that you're officially on my team I'm responsible for your training. Since you obviously don't take well to the Kuzashi way of learning your skills I figured I'd come up with my own approach that is less...traditional. We will be taking missions starting right away and your training will be continuous. I want to make sure you aren't planning on slacking off already." The training methods that Yamada had in mind were much more severe than the Kuzashi way, if one could believe that. This fact made him smile a little bit. Once Yuudai found out what he was in for he'd wish he never lipped off to their dad in the first place. Boy was he in for a world of hurt. Because now it was Yamada's responsibility to make sure Yuudai could face the world and live to tell about it.

Yuudai wasn't short tempered. Not at all. To compare his temper to their fathers was a bit of an insult considering there were very few times in life when Yuudai ever grew angry about anything. He was the type to just go with the flow, ignore the jabs and insults at his family namesake, and continue on his day. He wasn't going to grow heated and suddenly start defending his clan and the things they said, or the members of his beloved village, because they were both in the wrong. When everything stacked up, however, Yuudai was bound to blow, and in his eighteen years of life, he'd only lost his temper twice. He was nothing like his father and he refused to be labelled as such.
"If you really paid attention, Yamada, you'd know that I've only lost my temper twice in my life. I never grow angry about anything because there is no point in it. If I grew angry over everything like dad does, then, like him, I'd just be wasting what little time I have on this Earth. Getting angry doesn't change anything. That is unless you piss your father off and he disowns you for standing up to him," Yuudai said simply, not a single hint of anger or irritation in his voice. In fact, he spoke in the most logical sense, being very sincere in what he was saying. He wasn't an angry person, he just didn't agree with the way things worked between the clans and the village. It was juvenile in his opinion.
At the mention of their mother, Yuudai turned away to pick up the mop and wring it out in the sink. "I'm not allowed on compound grounds, remember? Father also stated that if I sent letters, they wouldn't be read, and instead thrown straight into the fire. Trust me, if I could check in with mother, Yamada, I would have by now. At least she didn't try to force me to do something that I didn't want to. As far as I'm concerned, she's the best of all the Kuzashi," Yuudai muttered, shaking his head and settling back at the table, now without anything to eat. He really needed to go to the market, but he really hadn't had the chance lately.
"Oh yes. Now that my brother is my teacher, I get to deal with him every day, huh?" Yuudai joked lightheartedly, "I guess I can't complain. It isn't too late to start actually being my brother, right?" Yuudai didn't really know much about Yamada. He was usually just a passing name in the household, and a passing face on the street. Yuudai had been a loner, so even if Yamada had been around, he wouldn't have let the older shinobi train with him anyway. There had been few times that they had spoken to each other over the years, and the two brothers only really started to get to know each other over the last few months, maybe even spanning back a year.
The genin grew serious then, leaning back in his seat and crossing his arms over his chest, "There's not much more along the lines of Kuzashi abilities that you can teach me, Yamada." He was being completely serious. Besides just working with him, Yuudai was skilled with his doujutsu. So skilled in fact, that he'd trained with it relentlessly, going through the steps to achieve the second phase of their eye techniques in complete secret, taking all the risks he could to achieve the outcome that he'd wanted. Yamada didn't even know the extent of his abilities. They hadn't worked together before, and Yuudai wouldn't so freely let go of his own secrets.
"Anyway, what's the first mission, then, Yamada?" he noted, scratching his head, his pink hair unkempt as a result of his heavy sleep. However, there was a bit of excitement in the genin's eyes. | ◀ MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS |

It was clear that Yuudai didn't want to speak about their family at all. Yamada normally had no problem with this but he couldn't help but feel bad knowingly letting him walk down a similar path to him. One that he was sometimes ashamed of. But he also realized that if his younger brother was half as stubborn as he was trying to talk him into trying to make amends with his family would be pointless. More than anything, Yuudai was right that Yamada hardly knew him. They were blood brothers and Yamada cared about him a great deal, but that didn't make him a good brother, or one that was involved in his life. He decided to just back off the topic entirely.
When Yuudai brought up the mission, Yamada immediately liked the boys eagerness. His positive attitude towards taking a mission was a good sign that he'd be an asset. Though he also thought to himself that it would only last so long as Yuudai was interested. Luckily for him, this first one was very interesting. So much so that Yamada had almost declined it.
"Well, it seems that a huge storm is pushing towards our coast, coming over from the Land of Water. It seems we are being dispatched later today to help locate a ship that went missing. There is a very good chance that it will have sunk or crashed by the time we get there, but if there are survivors it'll be up to us to help them." With that he took a glance at the boy, trying to get a read on him. Hopefully that would be enough to pique the boys interest and get him moving. Yamada still had one stop to make that morning to notify their other team members.
The only downside to this mission was that it was a C-Rank. He had left that part out when telling his younger brother because he wasn't sure if that would be taken as good or bad news. Without having a proper training session first Yamada wasn't totally confident that they should have been taking this mission. However it would have reflected badly on both him and his new genin team if they had declined to take the first mission offered to him. As far as he was concerned going was their only choice. Under normal circumstances this would be something they'd leave to Kirigakure to take care of, but he'd even heard a rumor that both Kirigakure and Kumogakure would be sending people to assist with the rescue efforts.

"Later today?" he asked, suddenly looking wide eyed. He hadn't even gotten to eat yet, and he certainly hadn't cleaned himself up for the day. At that moment he was mentally panicking, counting on his fingers all of the things that he had to do before they got going. Then it hit him. He didn't have any food left in the house and what little money he did have in his wallet would only get him so far. He'd paid his land lady the night before, not realizing how little he had for himself. Suddenly letting out a groan, he dropped his head to the table, just sitting there in silence for a long moment.
Yuudai didn't want to ask his brother for help. Especially since he was trying to make it seem as if he was self sufficient. If he suddenly asked for money to buy himself some food to eat, he would only make the older man worry more than he already seemed to. Seeing your younger brother live in his own at barely eighteen really couldn't be that easy, especially for a man that was trying to get to know his little brother after all this time. However, if he didn't eat, he'd more than likely pass out during the mission, leaving him quite useless.
Lifting his head and slouching back in his chair, staring up at the ceiling now, he let out a small grumble. "Unfortunately, Yamada, what I just spilled on the floor was all the food that I had left. I don't have a lot of money to even eat..." he trailed off, suddenly refusing to ask for money. He wouldn't do it. Nope. He wouldn't. Instead, he stood up, stretching and giving that friendly and oh-so-welcoming grin that seemed to be plastered on his face at all times. "I'm sure that you have to go and speak to our other team member about this mission, right? I'll be there whenever you want me, I just have to shower and make sure that all my tools are ready. And stretch. You can't forget stretching," Yuudai started to ramble, seeming to be all over the place as he focused on cleaning up his apartment a little bit, straightening scrolls and books and running his hand through his hair only to look at his palm as if it were disgusting.
"I'll meet you at the gates, okay? I'm just going to slip into the bath," he said in a rush, starting toward the hall without a second thought. He wouldn't ask. He wouldn't ask. He wouldn't ask. Damn it all, he had to. Turning on his heel, he started back down the hall, peaking around the corner with a sheepish smile. "Sayyy, Yamada? Could I have a little money so I can have lunch before we go? I'll pay you back right after the mission," he said, his smile now turning a little nervous. He hated feeling so weak as to have to ask for help. It was one of the worst feelings ever, especially since he'd been working so hard to make it seem as if he could do this all on his own. He was sure Yamada understood, though. He had to have been in Yuudai's position at least once in his life, right?
