When it comes to your typical 'assistant' or 'secretary', Karen is not what one would imagine in the slightest. With a demeanor of strong pride in her appearance, Karen believes that at all times she should be at her physical peak, and designs her diet and exercise routines around this philosophy. As a result of her regular intakes of protein and carbohydrates, you tend to find Karen has a large amount of energy, which is present in her speech patterns and voice, often speaking incredibly quickly but in a short, succinct manner.
In accordance with her rigorous dieting and training, it seems appropriate that Karen has a particularly powerful body, though with her tall height, she often finds that her muscles aren't as prominent as they should be, often looking like a slender lady rather than a powerful warrior. While that may be good for picking up girls, it certainly makes it feel like her training has no effect, despite the fact that she can lift several hundred lbs in each arm.
Her dark skin is, oddly, a rather rare occurrence in Sunagakure despite the blistering heat and sunlight, usually being found in places such as Kumogakure. As a result, it has often led to people thinking she is a spy or immigrant from the Land of Lightning, which usually leads to them being humiliated in front of a large group of people when Karen gets mad.
Karen doesn't really tend to stick to a specific outfit except during combat, always keeping a black leotard-like garment beneath any clothes she's wearing. This is mainly due to the fact that the leotard allows for a greater degree of freedom to her limbs and allows her to use the clothes she has to remove or cut off as an improvised weapon or means to conceal her movements. Her favorite color is orange however, which means most but not all of her outfits incorporate that in some way.

In general Karen is a very loud, boisterous person but one who also values silence and discretion. This seems somewhat paradoxical but as a shinobi who was formerly a rather high-ranking ANBU member, she learned very quickly when to be quiet and when to be loud. Her likes and dislikes form a good chunk of how she acts and reacts to the world around her, especially in situations of relaxation or peace, often being considered a very straight-forward thinker and motivator to a group., though she does not hesitate to tell you exactly what she thinks of you.
She has been noted to be very... promiscuous, often having several sexual partners at once though finding it incredibly hard to commit to a long-term relationship with any of them. In fact, she considers the very idea of settling down with any one person as repulsive apart from a few very rare cases. It's partly for this reason that she is nicknamed Sunagakure's Wildcat, always pouncing on new sexual partners without any regard for her own integrity.
In the same vein, she also does like to drink, turning up drunk or hung over to her work on more than one occasion. Frankly it's a wonder she hasn't been fired yet, with many advisers to the Kazekage calling for her removal or suspension, all of which Karen's good friend Demiyah has politely declined. While it may seem at first that her habit is the early stages of an addiction, in reality Karen has an incredibly fast metabolism, so drinking that would floor even the hardiest of men only gives her a very short, light buzz. Not enough stimulation to get addicted.
When it comes to combat however, Karen is extremely disciplined and could even be described as merciless. A former member of the ANBU, she has been trained to value secrecy and discretion, often having to make hard strategic decisions resulting in the deaths of her underlings. As a result, she has outright said before that if she were ever to be asked to take a leader spot such as Kazekage or a member of the advisers council, she would decline on the basis that she doesn't know how to handle all of that responsibility.

Karen didn't exactly have the best childhood growing up. While that may seem rather cliched, it's perhaps not for the same reason as a lot of others. She came from an incredibly poor family, her father a junior mason to a failing masonry company and her mother a dedicated housewife. It was all they could do to fund their daughter's eventual dream of becoming a shinobi, having to skimp on food and clothes money in order to pay for her education. But that was fine, right? For their daughter's future.
In truth Karen grew to resent her parents, believing that they were purposefully being stingy with clothes and food in order to stop her from being herself. And her parents never bothered to correct her. Not out of laziness but out of pride. If their daughter believed that they were being stingy then let her believe so.
Her father worked hard but even he could not survive the falling brick wall of Sunagakure no Sato's economy, eventually becoming unemployed and then, technically, homeless. By that time Karen had enrolled in the boarding school aspect of Sunagakure's shinobi academy and was living happily, not knowing that her parents were slaving away on the streets just to keep her fed.
And then, just like that, they died.
A shock to everyone, especially Karen, who was now knee-deep in homework in preparation for her graduation from the Academy. She hadn't expected they would go to such lengths just to survive, just to let her live her dream. But of course now Karen was stuck with the bills and no way to pay them. Lucky, then, that her teacher took pity on her and adopted the now orphaned Karen into her own family, thus gaining her surname of Tōshi.
It was during her days in the Academy that she met her good friend Demiyah, not knowing that one day the younger girl would become Kazekage. She trained relentlessly to fulfill the memory of her deceased biological parents and gain recognition from her stubborn, strict new mother. It didn't take long before she discovered her talent for Taijutsu and, in an odd combination, Chakra Control, which in any other case would lead one down the path of a Medical Shinobi.
In fact, when she became a Genin, Karen was determined not to become a Medic, not to be someone who sat there and watched their friends die in their arms but instead someone fighting and dying alongside them. A warrior. A soldier.
She honed her Taijutsu abilities all the way through to her eventual Chuunin Exams, already picked out as a potential ANBU candidate by the higher-ups in the village. It was then that her sensei taught her the art of Sealing, noticing Karen's unusually potent chakra control and attempting to put it to use. And thus her signature Fuuinjutsu + Taijutsu fighting style was born, using it to great effect during her final battle as part of the Chuunin Exams, eventually being promoted to Chuunin.
After that, it wasn't long before she was picked up by the ANBU, rising through the ranks incredibly quickly due to her fast learning and even faster feet, earning the nickname 'The Purple Flash'. It was during her time as an ANBU that she developed her decisive and strict mindset towards combat, before eventually being promoted by Demiyah, who, much to her amazement, had completely and utterly surpassed her in terms of power and become the Kazekage.
Since then, Karen has been dedicated to her desk job, but often laments the lack of action that it brings. | ooc info
