Training in the Mist [Closed]

The sun beamed brightly in the sky, blanketing the small training field just outside of the village in a warm light. In the distance, a heavy mist was visible, where the village resided, hidden from an outside threat. Kazu stood there in the middle of the field, patiently awaiting the arrival of one of his Genin. This particular Genin had potential. He was one that caught the attention of of Kazu while in the academy. Impressed by what he saw, Kazu decided to watch him even closer. As such, Kazu came to the decision of personally preparing this fine Genin for the Chuunin Exams.
Kazu stood there, in the sunlight, continuing his wait for his apprentice. In his right hand, he held a book. This book was one of his favorites. One that he had been given from his mother before she had passed away so suddenly. A story about two Shinobi from opposing villages falling in love. Yet, regardless, they are forced to kill one another on behalf of their respective villages. It was a story that Kazu enjoyed deeply every single time he read through it.
The crows flew by, cawing as they passed through the hot, bright sunlight. Kazu looked up, away from his novel, shutting it simultaneously. His Genin, Cheng Zu, should be arriving right away now. Kazu wandered over to a large tree to the right. The shadow cast by the tree was enormous, and guarded him from much of the light emitted. Kazu could feel the cool relief on his skin as he placed the book down by the tree. He then twisted turned his body around again, wandering back into the sun.
"I can't wait to see what he's got" Kazu muttered to himself quietly, with a slight smirk.

Cheng was a little bit on edge. He had been called forth by the Mizukage to perform special training for the upcoming chuunin exam. This was a great honor and both his parents made sure to emphasize how important it was to make a good impression. More important to him though was the potential of what he could learn from this master. Praised as the strongest shinobi in the village, any Kage would be a more than worthy instructor and Cheng planned to use everything he learned here to his advantage.
He had been walking for a while and found himself close to the designated meeting spot. A training field that was located relatively close to their home village. This would be a perfect place to get started, though it did indicate that they would be jumping straight into practical stuff, instead of theory. This was fine with him though as he definitely needed to further develop some of his basic skills. While his ability with his families Dao were above average, he hadn't yet mastered ninjutsu or taijutsu, the other skills he wanted to be proficient at.
The trees finally opened up to reveal an unusually nice day, sunlight washing over the training field. He took a quick look around and located Kazu. He made his way over to him then bowed deeply in front of the Mizukage. "I apologize if I made you wait Mizukage-sama."

Soft, tiny paws tapped on a rocky path. A small, black cat was walking along and peering around curiously. Every now and then someone would want to pet the kitty or shoo the nosy animal away, earning a meow or a hiss in return. However, few would’ve guessed this friendly animal was actually a kunoichi in disguise. Hara Kin had slipped into Kirigakure at the request of the Hokage, to scope out the competition for the upcoming Chuunin Exams. If she got caught here, there would be big trouble and no back up. This was a lonely spy mission, just the way she liked it.
It had quite a while since Hara had last been here, but the place hadn’t changed much. Jumping on some crates, she bolted up to a rooftop to get a better view. The village was lively, but she wasn’t interested in the common folk. Today, she was after the big man himself, the Mizukage. ...And whoever he was supposedly training. Personally she thought the rumor about him training a Genin was exactly the kind of joke story she would come up with, but a mission was a mission. If nothing else, she could always just spy on the Mizukage for personal amusement. Leaping down to the streets, she continued her search, even silently joking along the way.
Now, if I were the Mizukage, where would I hide...?
Suddenly, Hara’s ears twitched. Mizukage-sama? Yes, she was certain someone nearby had said that. But where...? Sneaking towards the source of the name, the stray cat found herself strutting on what looked a lot like a training field of sorts. The golden cat eyes gleamed in the sunlight, focusing on an unmistakable sight. The man basking in the shadow of the massive tree matched the description perfectly. Now, she could put her plan in motion. For a fleeting heartbeat, the black fur ball smiled like a Cheshire cat, grinning with a sly thought.
Found you~

Cheng had finally arrived. Kazu observed as the Genin wandered out of the trees and into the field, towards him. Another smirk crept across Kazu's face. He began to grow excited to train Cheng. As Cheng bowed, greeting Kazu, Kazu's smirk grew a little more.
"Don't worry!" Kazu chirped, in response to Cheng's apology. "I wasn't waiting long! Besides, I enjoyed my time reading!"
The smirk virtually disappeared from Kazu's face. He glanced at Cheng, examining him up and down from head to toe. Kazu stood there observing Cheng for a few moments in complete silence. He was thinking long and hard about what he could do to train this Genin.
"I've got it!" Kazu excalimed with enthusiasm while slamming his right fist into the palm of his left hand. "You will try to move me from this spot. Use any taijutsu you know or can think of. You will not be allowed to use weapons of any sort. You may use ninjutsu if you wish." A smirk crept across Kazu's face once more. "And remember. The use of any weapons will result in an instant fail! I'll also be fighting back. You start now!"
Without a moment's hesitation, Kazu thrust his right palm forward with the intention of striking Cheng directly in the chest. To catch Cheng off guard was entirely intended by this, and it was a great way to test and see how Cheng would handle a situation such as this.

Cheng barely saw the strike coming. Unfortunately for him his mind immediately went to an offensive strike with his dao to counter the palm strike. He realized quickly that it wouldn't be a suitable means of defense though because he had just been forbade from using weapons, though he didn't realize it quickly enough. He managed to get his left forearm in the way of the strike in time to half-block it. He glanced the hand off to his right but the impact had sent a numbing sensation down into his hand and had forced Cheng to take a couple steps back. Hand to hand wouldn't be enough to usurp Kazu from his position so he tried a much more drastic form of offense. He swung his body around then jumped in the air to launch a spinning kick with his right foot straight at the Mizukage's face.
Under normal circumstance he would feel hesitation or guilt at attacking his leader but it was clear here that if he did not do everything in his power to win that he was going to be pummeled.
He is really serious about this. Before this Cheng had only sparred with kids his own level and he had always been permitted to use whatever means necessary to beat them. He was totally unprepared for this restricted form of combat but perhaps that was exactly what he needed to start getting better. After all, it's not like he can always count on his dao to be there when he gets attacked. The moment of thought was quickly cut short as Cheng focused on the threat in front of him again. He couldn't afford to drop his guard for even a second or he'd be sent flying across the field.

The black-clad eavesdropper had really hit a jackpot this time. Rather than being just some random errand boy, the young man with a pony tail was here for training. Now, if the rumor was true, this was the mystery Genin she needed to keep an eye on. How amusing. The men wasted no time on getting started. It seemed the first lesson was Taijutsu. Hara snickered at the rules. Asking a Genin to move a Kage was like asking a mouse to face a lion. It would take a hilarious miracle. Unless the Kage was somehow terrible at Taijutsu... Hm, something to keep in mind and evaluate...
While the two men were trading blows, the curious cat carefully circled closer. She needed to find some safe spying spot. It had to be safe, but also provide a clear view on the targets. Maybe somewhere high, preferably with a lot of shadows and... The line of thought ended with a pleased purr. Oh yes, she had noticed the perfect place. There was just one tiny problem... Her targets were flailing right between her and the hiding spot. She could’ve kept her distance and waited for them to stop, but right now they were so delightfully distracted... The golden cat eyes gleamed as a risky little idea bubbled in her mind.
Thank goodness she was crazy, because otherwise this would’ve never worked.
Hara backed up a bit and then bolted straight towards the sparring duo. She was practically just a black blur of fur when she slipped past the dangerous legs. The timing was absolutely perfect. Bouncing against the bark, she dashed up the huge tree and vanished between the leaves with a rustle. After finding a suitable branch among the shadows, she sat down and leaned down to observe the targets. Talk about getting a front row seat for the show.

Kazu's felt the impact of his initial strike. His palm connected, but was shifted off to the side. Still, the impact felt solid, and Kazu could tell that Cheng had felt the blow. Almost immediately, Kazu's disciple became air born, spinning around. A leg began to move quickly, aimed at Kazu's face. Kazu just stood there, watching the leg move directly towards him. Kazu, still smiling, shifted his head back. It was just enough to dodge the impact of the kick. Kazu could feel the breeze left by the foot as it whizzed by him, grazing his hair oh so slightly. " Not good enough!" Kazu exclaimed. It was time for the counter attack. Kazu wasn't about to just let his disciple off without a few bruises. He was training Cheng for one of the biggest tests of Cheng's life, after all. As the leg followed through, missing Kazu's face, Kazu shifted his left leg slightly, raising his left arm in front, and pulling his right arm back. Kazu straightened his head again, before pulling his left arm back as he simultaneously pushed his right palm forward once more. This time, he was aiming for Cheng's back. " You're leaving too many openings!" Kazu stated once more as the palm homed in on Kazu's target. " Think before you strike!" Tagged: Hara Kin, Cheng ZuOOC: Notes coded by electric of gangnam style

Remarkably Cheng had missed his target. Kazu was obviously not going to go easy on him but he didn't expect him to be quite this fast. Unfortunately he didn't have time to reevaluate his expectations of his opponent. This was going to be tougher than he expected but he was confident that so long as he could land a blow with enough force he could make him take a step back. Perhaps this was just overconfidence, but if he didn't believe he could do it he definitely wasn't going to be able to.
As he finished his spin and was about to regain his footing the Mizukage launched another palm strike. Cheng caught this out the corner of his eye but since he wasn't on the ground yet it would be impossible to dodge it. With enough momentum though he might be able to spin around and grab onto the arm to perform a follow up kick. Strategy in mind he pulled his arms in close to give him some extra turning speed to perform one last rotation. This time the Kage wasn't going to be able to just lean out of the way.
Not fast enough. The realization dawned on him less than a second before impact. He was struck hard in the side and sent rolling across the dirt. He quickly regained his bearings and jumped back up onto his feet. Even though he'd been hit with the brunt of the force, getting struck in the side was preferential to the back for him. The loss of mobility on one side instead of everywhere would make it possible for him to still get a hit in. After that last attack though he was a little flustered and truthfully somewhat embarrassed. Without giving it enough thought he rushed in again, this time with a direct punch towards the Mizukage's lower abdomen.

Hm, nope, didn’t seem like the Mizukage was a sloppy fighter. In fact, he was pretty good. Hara had more than enough Taijutsu experience to tell when someone was just toying with their opponent, mostly because she did it all the time. And it never got old! However, the light-hearted thought was underlined by a problematic little realization. If she slipped up here, escaping would’ve been troublesome. She was very proud of her Taijutsu prowess, but maybe not proud enough to test it against a Kage in the guy’s own village. Oh well, just more incentive not to get caught. Danger was the spice of life.
As for the dark-haired boy... Aw, the poor fellow looks like he has an itch he can’t scratch. It wasn’t exactly a surprise though. Toying or not, anyone would be struggle against a Kage. However, even by Genin standards that style wasn’t anything impressive. Amusing, sure, but not impressive. Judging by that weapon hanging from the boy’s waist -Now what was that thing called again...? Doi, due, dao?- he was probably more familiar with some sort of Kenjutsu. That would explain a lot. And it would be a nice little detail for the Konoha Genin to explo-hm, keep in mind. All the more for the report.
Hara remained silent and unmoving on her perch, carefully memorizing everything she saw. Sadly, for now, observation was all she could do. Boring but necessary. The fun part would come later. When a suitable opportunity presented itself, she could go for something bit more... direct.

As Kazu's palm thrust forward, slicing through the air, he could see what Cheng was up to. As Cheng brought his arms up in a crazy attempt to speed his rotation, Kazu could immediately tell that it was a futile effort and that Cheng was not going to be fast enough. With that, Kazu's palm struck Cheng in the side, throwing Cheng foward a distance. Cheng's body kicked up a cloud of dust as he struck the dirst, and Kazu watch as his apprentice struggled. To Kazu's surprise, Cheng popped right back up, ready to go another round. Kazu's face lit up with excitement. The fire in Cheng's eyes intrigued Kazu. Impressive. As Cheng rushed towards Kazu one more time, Kazu prepared to make the counter attack. A thoughtless, hasty rush like this would have dire consequences for the young shinobi. As the punch raced forward, directly towards Kazu's gut, Kazu reacted with a block. He shifted his right arm in a downward, sweeping motion, redirecting Cheng's fist. Hopefully this would also throw the Genin off balance a bit for Kazu's next strike. As Cheng's fist was redirected and missed it's target once more, Kazu responded to the strike with a strike of his own. A small cloud of dust kicked off the ground as Kazu raised his right knee up, aiming to strike Cheng in the gut with it. Tagged: Cheng Zu Hara KinOOC: Notes coded by electric of gangnam style
