Amaterasu rubbed her forehead lightly, just barely brushing the ram skull on top of her head. She still wasn't used to it, but it was her trophy. She's killed that stupid ram who's been bullying all of the other ones. He'd been so strong and Ama just hadn't been able to resist taking the things skull for herself. That and she had this weird little ram to thank for telling her that it was apparently customary for the person who killed the leader of the Plateau Rams to take its skull. Well good for her. She had a new helmet... and a new best friend. Gorou had been rather proud of Amaterasu for stepping up to the plate, so she wasn't going to let him down by not taking the once bullied Ares into their care.
The growing little guy was trotting happily next to her, singing some song at the top of his lungs. He said it was some sort of ram lullaby, but it honestly just sounded like he was screaming for no reason. It had annoyed Ama at first, but it was easy enough to get used to after a while. After all, she couldn't just ditch him now. She'd become too attached to the goofball animal. The only bad thing about his singing was the fact that if they were trying to be stealthy before, they'd surely be found out now. Glancing down at the ram, Ama lifted an eyebrow, "You know, if we were every trying not to get caught at something, you'd totally just give us away, right?"
Ares stopped and looked up at her with wide eyes, "Would people really attack us because I was singing?" He looked alive with wonder, honestly curious about what his harmonious vocals could do to the local shinobi wildlife. Ama looked dumbfounded for a moment, a laugh bubbling up in her chest. She held her stomach, almost bent over with laughter, blue-green locks falling over her shoulders as she bent over slightly, cackling.
"You actually thing that people would attack us because you were singing? The way you sing, that's possible. However, there are bandits and such around here. Some are a lot stronger than I am and Gorou isn't around to help us out. I'd rather not get robbed on the trails," Ama said, her expression turning serious as she watched her companion. Ares just blinked up at her, starting to belt out an entirely new song. "Eh?" she paused, watching him trot along in front of her, her eyebrow twitching. 'He just doesn't listen, does he?' she thought to herself.
Her thoughts were cut short as she noticed a familiar form. A very familiar form. Blonde hair... black jumpsuit... Leaf headband. 'Hara!' she thought to herself, a sly smile forming on her features as she followed quickly after Ares, knowing that before long he'd alert the other kunoichi on the trails. It was then that Ama broke into a run, catching up to Hara quickly and pouncing on the woman from behind. "Hara-channnn!" Ama exclaimed in excitement, not really caring that she'd taken the other shinobi to the ground.
Ares ran to catch up, looking wide eyed once more, "Did you just tell me that I should be careful about people attacking us?! Then you go and attack someone yourself!..." Ares paused, squinting at Hara who was under Amaterasu. "YO LADY! Who're you?" his tone was, of course, accusatory.

For a certain kunoichi, it had been a long... week, actually. Hara Kin, was returning from a rather eventful mission. The concealing hood had been pulled down and the Leaf headband was swinging from idle fingers. Exhaustion was really getting to her. Not only were her legs aching with each step, but occasionally she could’ve sworn she was hearing things. It was the strangest sound carried in the wind, like someone, or something, was wailing mindlessly. She dismissed it as a figment of her imagination, simply the sound of her psyche slowly collapsing beneath the lack of sleep. It was kind of funny actually. There was no way anything real could make such a ridiculous noise.
...Right?
That train of thought crashed unceremoniously when something bowled right into the trickster. Who, what, why?! Those were the questions Hara pondered after coughing out a mouthful of dirt. However, the cheery voice had been familiar, as were the long strands of hair reaching to the ground. Bluish green or greenish blue? She honestly couldn’t tell, but one thing was certain. Only one person fit the description. Instead of even trying to get up, Hara just squirmed onto her back and smirked. "Hello to you too, Ama-chan~" Without giving Amaterasu a chance to back off, she nabbed the fellow kunoichi into a hug. "It’s a small world, eh~?"
Just as the friendly familiarity set in... Hara’s lips twisted into a devilish grin. "Tickle attack!" Suddenly, her fingers shot to Amaterasu’s sides. Up and down, back and forth... They danced over each and every sensitive spot, twice for the most ticklish ones. No mercy. This was payback for making her eat dirt.
The crazy game didn’t end until the trickster got tired or the friend slipped from her grasp. Either way, afterwards she struggled to sit up. Her muscles protested the mere idea, but she couldn’t exactly fall asleep in the middle of the trail. Next to it, sure, but not right here. Lifting her focus back onto the cheery woman, the trickster blinked... once... twice. "...What’s with the spooky hat?" The question was careful, pondering even. She wasn’t exactly sure if the skull was real or if she had already started seeing things too.
It took another awkwardly long moment, but finally the Kitsune’s shaken and stirred mind recalled the other voice. Someone had demanded her attention. Slowly, her gaze wandered around. She didn’t see anyone else though. Instead, what she saw was a white ball of fluff. Absolutely adorable. "Gosh, what a cute little sheep~!" In her mild delirium, she reached out to pet the ball. The demand to identify herself had already slipped her mind.

Amaterasu let a grin form on her features as Hara turned in her grasp and hugged her back. Then the tickling started. Oh god. The tickling. One of Amaterasu's down falls. The Kumogakure kunoichi started to giggle and squirm in Hara's grasp, letting her friend go quickly and pulling herself from Hara.Taking in a few sharp breaths to calm herself down. Hara always seemed to know where she was the most ticklish and Amaterasu didn't want her to reveal that to Ares. If she did, Ama was sure to be pounced at random times by her companion. She couldn't have that, no she couldn't. Stretching and smiling down at Hara, Amaterasu couldn't help but keep grinning.
She reached her hand up to her head, having forgotten the skull on top of her head for a moment. It felt so familiar and normal to her already that she hadn't really thought of it being new to anyone. Her mouth in a surprised little "o" shape, Ama laughed. "Oh this? I took it as a trophy when I killed a really big and really mean ram on the plateaus. He was terrorizing all the other rams in the flock and he had to be dealt with," the woman noted with a not of self satisfaction to herself. That's exactly what had happened too. Ama didn't like bullying. There were consequences to trying to harm others, and killing the mean old ram had been her best course of action to keep it from happening again.
Then Amaterasu's smile faltered, her eyes going wide. Oh god. Hara didn't just call him a sheep, did she? This wasn't good. This wasn't good. No, no, no. She didn't want to have to deal with the tiny fiery ball of fluff right here and now. Her eyes growing wide, she pounced Hara, clasping a hand over the woman's mouth. "You didn't just say that, did you?" she asked, looking a little nervous as her gaze drifted to Ares.
The tiny little ram had gone wide-eyed, and then his gaze went a little twisted. He started breathing heavily, stamping his feet on the ground in an attempt to make him seem more intimidating. Truth be told, he was actually just a little annoying. "DID YOU JUST CALL ME A SHEEP?!" Ares screeched, running toward the two of them, his hooves and tiny little horns suddenly having burst into flames.
Aiming to quell a fight before it started, Ama performed a few hand seals, placing her hands on the ground in front of Hara and Ama. "Doton: Anzen no Kabe," she noted calmly, a wall of earth forming right as Ares got close enough. There was a loud smack and then a soft thud. Ama put the call down, observing her partner in silence. "The ram doesn't like being called a sheep," Ama said with a chuckle, noting that Ares was effectively knocked out and silent for at least a little bit.

The explanation for the macabre hat took a moment to register. Hara’s gaze lazily drifted between the amber eyes and the white skull. So, it was real... Huh. Well, at least she wasn’t seeing things quite yet. Even then, it was met with a quizzical head tilt. "You killed a what now?" In her tired mind the word had only one connection and she briefly wondered how one could even kill a hand seal. By breaking the fingers perhaps... Unfortunately, the puzzled woman didn’t get a chance to question it more, much less receive an answer, when a certain companion animal threw a fiery fit.
Instead of even trying anything, the Kitsune just stared. She wasn’t exactly in a state to defend herself. Genjutsu took focus, something she sorely lacked at the moment. Then again, she didn’t exactly see this as a danger either. "Ah hah haa! The marshmallow caught fire!" The gleeful realization stole the last semblance of balance left in her and she flopped against her friend. While Amaterasu was busy defusing the situation, Hara didn’t lift a finger to help. She simply snuggled closer. Yes, this was nice. So soft and comfy. She wouldn’t fall asleep though. Not here, not now. Just... resting... eyes...
It wasn’t until the smack and the cheerful remark that the sleepy trickster stirred again. Her unfocused gaze wandered onto Ama’s features, sort of, while the mumbled words were barely coherent. "There’s that word again. I swear it’s just something you made up..." By now, her clouded mind had lost the last connection the word had to anything. The madness swirling behind her eyes was becoming more apparent by the moment. "Well, I can invent nonsense words too! Rim, rom, rum..." She trailed off giggling like a maniac, having finally lost her mind. Or maybe she was just joking as usual. Hard to say.
...Probably the latter.
After the giggle fit passed, the Kitsune lifted her head, eyes focusing, just enough to get a closer look at the fellow kunoichi. "Hey, you wouldn’t happen to have a Caffeine Jutsu or anything?" Suddenly she fell silent and shook her head. The trickster liked to think of herself as self-sufficient and asking for help was, well, embarrassing. Too embarrassing. "Just wondering... Could come in handy sometimes... I think..." She rolled off and swayed to standing up. So far she had soldiered on with the revitalizing power of... sugar. Unhealthy amounts of it in fact. However, a sugar rush could only get a grown woman so far. If only she could be six years old again... Oh the limitless energy...

Amaterasu wasn't even going to try to answer the question of what she'd killed once more. It was clear that Hara was rather out of it, and the only explanation that came to mind was that she was exhausted. She was glad to hold her friend in her arms, not wanting her to fall over and his her head on the dart dirt below them. Then Ama would have to actually work to heal her friend. As much as she enjoyed medic work, the worst part was always trying to patch up your friends. The worry that it put you under was limitless and instead of focusing on your work, you were screaming and crying for them to not leave you. At least that's what she'd seen with other medic ninja in the past. Amaterasu was determined not to become one of those.
"That's okay, just rest a little bit, Hara," she noted softly, glaring at the passed out little ram on the other side of the tiny barrier that she'd created against him. He still had a lot of work to do if he wanted to burst through earth like that. Sighing heavily, she closed her eyes for a long moment, just acting as a way for Hara to steady herself. She wouldn't comment on any of Hara's delirious statements, knowing that it probably wasn't the best idea to fight with someone who was so utterly exhausted that they couldn't properly think. But a caffeine jutsu? No. Amaterasu was sure that there was no such thing. At least not yet. Even then, one would have to have extensive chakra control to give themselves a burst of energy like that.
Shaking her head as Hara steadied herself once more, Amaterasu carefully brushed herself off. "No. I don't have a jutsu for sleepiness, but I'm staying at an inn just up the road here in a small town. Ares and I have our own room, but it has two beds. You could easily just steal one and rest for a while if that's what you need. Then, when you wake up, we can go out and have dinner or breakfast and properly catch up when you aren't... exhausted," Amaterasu reasoned softly. She'd moved over toward Ares as she spoke, slowly picking up the ram and cradling him in her arms like a little child.
As if to give Hara no other choice but the one that Amaterasu had provided for her, Ama put a hand against her friends back, carefully starting to lead her toward the small town. She kept a close eye on her friend, wanting to be able to steady her if she suddenly swayed like she was before. She seriously didn't need a dirty Hara as well as an exhausted one. That would make the situation a little worse, in Amaterasu's eyes.

Simply staying up was a struggle. Hara’s knees wobbled like flags in the wind. Despite this, however, she tried to protest and push the helpful friend away. "I’m fine, I’m fine... Honestly..." The keyword being 'tried'. She couldn’t actually decline the polite offer or the pleasant company. A big part of her didn’t really want to decline either. Rest sounded like a wonderful idea right now. "It’s just... been a little hectic. Maybe I can take a short nap..." The last of the childish resistance faded and she accepted Amaterasu’s lead. Beneath the sleepiness, she silently vowed to pay back the kindness. Somehow. It wasn’t exactly her forte, but she would figure something out.
While walking along, the Kitsune occasionally shifted her gaze across the landscape. Even on the verge of fainting, she didn’t like awkward silences. After finally managing to gather her thoughts, she glanced at her buddy and smirked. "You wouldn’t believe what I’ve been through. Heh hehe haa... No one ever does..." The weak attempt at a laugh was silenced by a sad sigh. Her smile vanished and head dipped down from the weight of the words. Without the usual energy to keep her mind occupied, the sad realizations stabbed deep. It wasn’t easy being a liar.
In an effort to redirect the thoughts, Hara started explaining what she had meant with 'a little hectic'. "You see... The guy I was chasing turned out to be three different guys..." She tried to keep all the classified information to herself, but that wasn’t making the explanation any easier. "...Who then combined into one huge guy!" It quickly devolved into rapid and nonsensical rambling, something about rangers of power. Large majority of it was just completely incomprehensible though. "And just as I was about to head back, I got ambushed by a pack of angry doge... doggies..." A distraction scrambled the last word and stole her attention. Slowly, she lifted a finger to point at something down the road.
"Kinda like that one."
True enough, the way to the town was guarded by a stray mutt. Upon seeing the arrivals, it started barking up a storm. That was a lot wrath from one animal. It had a filthy fur, fire in its eyes and sharp teeth that could reach all the way up to... ankles. Calling the wannabe hound pint-sized would’ve been a rather generous estimation. Not that it understood the size difference. The mini beast charged at the weary travelers with fangs bared.
