Konoha Summer Festival Street Vendors / Games Instructions: This is a traditional Japanese style festival, but that doesn’t mean you can’t come up with your own games to play, or vendors to buy from. You’ll be able to find everything from takoyaki to goldfish scooping; Sumo wrestling to karaoke contests; and of course, anything you can come up with and want to bring to the street yourself!
MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS | Ryoko stood in his office, giving himself the once over in the mirror. His men's kimono was a little tight. He hadn't worn it in quite a few years so it looked a little bit silly. Next year he'd definitely be required to buy a new one. As he finished making sure everything was in order he let out a deep sigh.
Time to get going I guess. In all honesty this was the only part of a festival that Ryoko enjoyed. The street vendors and all the delicious food. You wouldn't know it to look at his lean figure but Ryoko was definitely a foodie and he was excited to see what the bounty this year was. There was also a possibility that he was going to be drinking quite a lot tonight. That coupled with some festival games could make for an interesting show for the villagers. He'd have to remember the word moderation.
As he stepped out of the building he could already hear the noise from the festival. Laughing and shouting. Everyone having a good time. Considering the situation in the world outside of Konoha this was nice. Perhaps it would be good even for the Hokage to relax a bit tonight and enjoy himself. Very rarely did he have an opportunity as good as this one to mingle with his own villagers as well as those from others.
Making his way down the street he could already see the lights up ahead. Small children ran around him and down an alley and he remember back to the days when he was younger and participating in the festival with his adoptive father. Then he used to get looks of respect, despite how the students felt he received special treatment. Those days were special to him and the good feeling he got then flooded back, passing even the barrier that the curse mark usually had up.
Tonight is going to be a good night.

With so many vendors to see and games to try, one could easily find themselves a little lost. Luckily, the festival had barely gotten to full swing. There was plenty of time to wander around and the lines were orderly. Everyone got a turn. ...Well, almost everyone. "Whadda ya mean I’m banned by default?! Let me have just one try! Pleaaaase~?!" Even above the festival noises, the familiar voice was easy to pick out and locate.
Hara Kin was busy poking an old gentleman smoking a pipe. His stand was a simple game. Throw ball at a pile of bottles and pick a prize based on how many got knocked down. The shelves had some semblance of tiers going, but rules were still lax. "Come ooon~! Why won’t you let me play~?" The trickster demanded with yet another poke. He was getting visibly annoyed by the unwanted attention. "You cheat." It was blunt like a slap across the face. She crossed her arms, mock-offended by the claim. "I do not!" Oh yes she did. Most people in Konoha knew that especially well. "Now now, missy, let others have a shot at the prizes."
Despite the setback, the Kitsune tried her best to act innocent. "Oh come on, Mr. Crankypants. It’s just throwing a ball at bottles that are probably rigged anyway, like filled with water or something. How could I possibly cheat in that?" Less than amused by the joking accusation, the old stand-keeper puffed a sour sigh of smoke at her. "Let’s not find out." Hara recoiled from the stink. She puffed her cheeks in a purely theatrical pout. However, the crafty old man took the opportunity to ignore her completely and beckon other people closer. It didn’t take more than a moment for a line to form up. Killjoy...
Still, the kunoichi remained by the stall, adamant to figure out something. She leaned against the support and sighed. Thinking wasn’t easy with so many lively distractions around. For once, it wasn’t actually the game that interested her, but the prizes. One prize in particular got a longing gaze from her. A teddy bear. Fluffy fur, button eyes and a red bowtie... The small, brown thing seemed so solemn up there, sitting all alone amongst countless, flashier rewards. Hara was certain it would’ve looked much happier on her nightstand, holding a dear picture for her to see. Memories were precious. Not that she would admit any of this out loud.

"Amaaaaa! Look at this stand! It's filled with... with... LITTLE KOI FISH!" Ares squalled, sticking his head intently into the stall, his eyes wide. He was at his full size today, having decided that appearing cute and fluffy to all the kids in Konohagakure really wasn't his thing. Besides, he liked giving piggy back rides. Ama had even mentioned that they could make a little money by letting little kids take rides on his back, to which Ares had given a snort and said he wouldn't make little kids pay their hard earned money just to get a ride from him. He'd do it without getting money. Just seeing the joy on their little faces was enough.
Amaterasu stepped up beside Ares, chuckling and smiling apologetically at the game host for Ares's intrusion. "Honestly, Ari. What would you do with a little koi fish? You couldn't even take care of that turtle you found in the Land of Rain. You repel other animals. At least the small ones," Amaterasu teased, letting out a giggle when Ares turned toward her and stamped one of his hooves on the ground.
"Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Ama! Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" Ares begged, stamping his hooves like a little child in the dirt. He then proceeded to give Ama that look that always seemed to melt her. He liked to call them Puppy Ram Eyes.
Sighing heavily, and letting out a grumble of frustration. "Fine. Fine. I'll get you a koi fish," Amaterasu said with a sigh. She pulled out a little bit of money and handing it to the game owner, who handed her three small ping-pong balls. The object of the game was to try and land the ping-pong balls into the bowls with the little gold fish. Each little bowl had a small lid on it, and each had a differently sized hole. Each container was raised on a cylindrical platform, and they were all spaced out from each other. It was a well known fact that games like these were rigged, but Ama was sure that she could land at least one of the balls into the container.
She held the first ball in her hand, silently debating where she wanted to toss it. Finding the most promising one, she tossed it underhand, landing it right in. The game master just smiled, nodding and instructing her to throw the second one. Two more tosses later, and Ama and Ares left the stall with a container filled with three little koi fish. "Woooowwww, Ama! You're really good at that game!" Ares was cooing before he suddenly stopped, staring right ahead at a familiar face. She was a small little thing, blonde... foxy. Ares nudged Ama with his back side, "Yo. Ama. Look. It's FOXY."
Amaterasu held the container of koi fish carefully, lifting an eyebrow as she looked up from the three swimming organisms. Amaterasu's face lit up like the starry night sky, though it quickly faltered as she watched Hara poke at the man who was obviously not letting her play the game at his stall. Suddenly furious about the man excluding one of her best friends on the planet, Ama carefully slipped the container of koi fish into Ares's back satchel, making sure they laid level against the wooden bottom of the bag. Then she marched right over to the stall, the beautiful seafoam haired Kumo Jounin giving a smile that would make even a woman falter.
"I'd like to play~" she said sweetly, giving a playful smile at Hara. Her own version of a greeting, "Since you won't let my girlfriend play." She was obviously taunting the man into denying both of them play, though then he'd have to deal with Ares. | ◀ MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS |

Hara’s troubled expression brightened up immediately when she noticed a familiar face. Amaterasu, one of the very few people the Kitsune honestly considered a close friend. She couldn’t quite match that heart-melting smile -hers tended to come out a little twisted- but she still tried. "Hee, if it isn’t Ama-chan and her faithful sidekick Fluffy the Wonder Sheep." It didn’t matter how big the goat got, the trickster would never let him live down the misleadingly cute form. In her memories, he would always be that ball of fluff she had first seen long ago. Then again, her memory from that day was kind of fuzzy...
Meanwhile, the old stall keeper seemed less than thrilled to realize the two women knew each other. Anyone who was that close with the troublesome prankster couldn’t be good news, but... The young lady was the next in line and guests deserved respect. Amaterasu was presented with three balls and a tower of bottles. "There you go, young lady. Knock ‘em down and you get to pick a prize. Simple stuff." The friendly instruction was underlined by a quick glare at Hara, a reminder that he was keeping an eye on her. Good call too. She wasn’t above... hm... getting a five finger discount, although that would admittedly ruin the whole point of earning a prize.
The Kitsune leaned closer to watch the show. Part of her wanted to jokingly ask Ama about winning the teddy for her. Actually... "Well, darling, are you going to win something for your girlfriend?" Just a subtle hint. It might’ve as well been one of her usual jokes. No way would she actually beg for it. Nu uh. It was only a stupid, cuddly teddy bear anyway... Hara wiped the thoughts away and shifted into idle chatter. "So, have you two enjoyed the festival, hm? Won any games? Eaten delicious food?" She punctuated the questions with gentle pokes on Amaterasu’s side and gleeful disregard for how distracting it may have been.

Amaterasu was absolutely glowing at the sight of her friend, happy to know that the woman was just as happy to see her. It was refreshing, in all honesty. They hadn't seen each other in a long while, but Ama still knew that games were Hara's thing. Games like these were especially fun because it placed the cheaters against the cheaters. All the games were rigged, and it just took some special techniques to figure them out. Taking the small balls from the stall owner, Ama tossed one up in the air, catching it again while smirking sweetly at her friend.
Ares, on the other hand, gave that same crazed look toward Hara. "I'm not a sheep and I'm certainly not a WONDER SHEEP, Foxy Feet," Ares said, stamping his feet on the ground in a frustrated manner. He was stopped by a sharp look from Amaterasu and he simply bowed his head before nudging Hara's forehead with his own. "It's good to see you, Kitsune," he noted, giving a proper greeting, though he was still tempted to throw a massive fit over being called a sheep.
Amaterasu grinned at Hara then, "Of course I'll win you something, baby." Her smile was flirty, much like it always was, though there was a very kind notion behind it. If they'd been in any other festival that hadn't been in Konoha, Hara would have been able to have as much fun as she'd wanted. This guy was just being a stick in on the mud during a perfectly fun evening of games, drink, and amazing food. Konoha surely was a spectacular place. At least in Amaterasu's opinion. She didn't have to live here.
Rounding up, she threw one of the balls with full force, right into the sweet spot of the formation of bottles, knocking the entire first set over. Laughing, Ama gave a devilish grin toward the gamekeeper. Ama didn't cheat, but she was very skilled with games like this. Considering she and Gorou frequented all the various festivals in the minor countries for eleven straight years. She'd had her time to practice, and her room was even filled with the various prizes that she'd won during her travels. Rounding up once again, she threw the next ball, hitting the same spot as on the first group of bottles, knocking them all down once again. 'One more,' Amaterasu noted to herself, grinning easily, feeling rather smug. A third ball thrown into the third and final section of bottles and they were all down. Grinning with glee at her triumph, she pointed toward the exact bear that Hara had been eying before. "I'll take that one, sir!" she said with a giggle.
Once she had the toy in hand, she turned right toward Hara and handed it to her. "A gift, Hara-chan," she said with a chuckle. "Oh. Yeah we won three of those little koi fish in that game down the street further. Ares begged me to win him one," Ama noted, nodding to herself. "We haven't gotten to eat yet. What do you suggest?" she said with a curious and excited expression. Festivals were some of Amaterasu's favorite events ever. She was in heaven right now. | ◀ MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS |

The crazed look was met with a sly smirk. Hara had learned that calling the fiery companion animal any variation of sheep was highly hazardous. That’s exactly why she kept doing it. Teasing someone was far more fun with a little risk involved. She even stuck out her tongue to fan the flames. Luckily, Ama was on the case once again and saved the situation. Hara snickered and offered a compliment that came out just a tiny bit more mocking than intended. "Hee, well aren’t you real clever and polite, little buddy~? Yes you are~!" Still, the trickster’s smirk mellowed and she rewarded the nice greeting with an enthusiastic pat on the head. This was all just fun and games after all.
Speaking of games...
Much to the Kitsune’s amusement, Amaterasu was absolutely wrecking the ball game. The bottle towers didn’t stand a chance. And all that without even a hint of cheating. The defeated old timer just scratched the back of his head in disbelief before handing over the prize without a word. The teddy... And just as promised, Amaterasu offered it to Hara. For a brief moment, the Kitsune beamed like a child on a birthday. She took the teddy carefully and held it against her heart. Slowly, the trickster’s usual smirk faded away, revealing something joyful beneath, something honest. "Thank you, Amaterasu." Sometimes... the little things meant the most.
When Amaterasu asked for ideas, Hara stopped to ponder. It needed to be something filling, but also wild and delicious. Luckily, she got along with the food vendors far better. Her lips twisted into a crescent grin. "Hmmmm... Yup! I know the perfect place!" Without a warning, she swung her free arm around the gentle kunoichi’s shoulder and tried to lead her for a run through the streets. "Come on, this way!" If Ares wasn’t careful, he too would’ve found himself getting dragged along. By the goatee. For Hara’s defense, that was the best grip she could reach for in the heat of the moment.
After a mad dash through the crowds, the odd trio arrived to the so-called 'perfect place'. An okonomiyaki stand. The scent of fried food filled the air. A small group of chefs was busy preparing what looked like pancakes filled with all sorts of ingredients. Greasy, messy, unhealthy... And absolutely delicious as far as the trickster was concerned. She already drooled. For her, the best part was getting to pick all the ingredients from the large menu. Various meats, vegetables, cheese... Even squid and other seafood options for those feeling adventurous. So many options. Decisions, decisions... Maybe she would end up getting a little bit of everything.
And just maybe, the kunoichi duo might end up running into a fellow foodie...

MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS | The night had been fairly successful so far. He'd made his way up and down the street a couple times, greeting guests from foreign lands and exchanging a friendly hello with all of the Konoha residents he came across. The festival seemed to have everyone in a good mood and he hadn't needed to defuse a single bad situation, even if his presence was the cause of it. Perhaps things were finally looking up?
As the night wore on he'd built up quite an appetite and it was time for his favourite part. He'd made his way over to what was a then fairly quiet okonomiyaki stand. While he was incredibly hungry, he wasn't feeling too terribly adventurous tonight so what he'd ordered was just a traditional Osaka style okonomiyaki, a personal favourite. It wouldn't be too long before he would be able to dig in and move on. Before he had an opportunity to he heard a couple of people approaching the stand from behind.
Ryoko spun his head around to see who it was that was coming behind him, ready to offer a friendly greeting. His gaze was met by an all to familiar face, one of his own jounin who appeared to be dragging around a Kumogakure shinobi, followed closely by...a sheep? The sight was all a little too unusual for Ryoko and it took him a moment before he even found words for them.
"Such a nice surprise to run into you Hara." His voice was a mixture of slight concern and genuine pleasure at seeing someone he got along with. He then turned his head ever so slightly to address the Kumo nin with her. "Ryoko Kaminaga, it's a pleasure to meet you. Welcome to Konoha." He smiled at her, looking as sincere as he possibly could. "I trust you're both enjoying the festival?" |
