On Top Of The World
To be allowed in the Hane Nesting Grounds without the accompanying of a Hane, or guidance of one at least, was an honor for Shikai. Yes, even this guy, who often dispatched anything that had to do with status of rank or reputation, had at least a simple understanding of what it meant to be allowed in 'special grounds' of a certain Clan. It made him wonder what exactly had the clan thought of him, if they even noticed his existence. Sure, he tried to make himself widely known around Kumogakure, what with the flashy attire and the announcement of 'any jobs accepted', but he definitely did not see this one coming; they were a respected Clan in the village and in the land, so only being turned to by such people was something beyond his understanding. It is very much possible the boy did not acknowledge his surroundings even after getting inside.
Regardless, it was time to work. "Okay! All I need to do is check for three of the nests and make sure there are no thieving foxes around or whatever, right? Piece of cake!! Though... I could probably use Hitomin's sensing ability right now, hehe..." In truth, having not much talent in sensory at all, Shikai would easily find it quite difficult to complete this mission. He's have to climb the trees and guess there are nests around, or sight-see until he spots a certain nest. There was also the thief fox they were talking about, which he was anticipating, but wasn't entirely sure whether that'd come or not. Could only hope not today, makes the job easier and more peaceful.
After a short while of walking around in search for a nest up in the trees, Shikai found the first nest. It was relatively low in comparison to what he expected, in height at least, so getting to it was fairly easy. As he climbed the tree and balanced himself on the branch, the blond witnessed as the small chicks chirped silently, accompanying a few eggs that have yet to hatch. That sight... Was peaceful. Very peaceful. He jerked a genuinely touched, warm smile. "...Newborn life, huh..." The boy could look at this for a long while, until the parents come back at any rate. Those newly hatched chicks weren't the most beautiful spectacle, and barely had any feathers. But they were babies. New life, wonder. Unexplainable miracle, a mystery. They in a way, were very much like his own chrysanthemums back home.
"...Okay! No use just staying here, yeah! Alright. I'll just mark that this place was cool." He said, pulling out a Shuriken and craving a line at it to signal he had visited, and that the nest was doing alright.
Shikai had traveled a bit more until he found a different nest, rather high up among the trees. As he made his difficult way up though, climbing up the trunk, he heard swift sounds. Very cautious, silent footsteps rustling along the grass. As he looked down, the blond spotted it; the figure of an orange-furred animal dashing through like a professional thief. "Aaah!! It's here!!" He yelled out, letting loose his grip on the trunk, landing on his feet on the ground and quickly giving chase to the fox. "Stop!!" He yelled to it, running as fast as he could; yet, he probably would never manage to catch up with the animal normally.
Shikai assumed right away that this fox was the thief fox they were talking about. This was special grounds for raising birds, thus there should not be any foxes around these parts. It wouldn't make sense. While Shikai had thought of something that could easily topple the predator, it would likely blow away some of the nests or birds if he was too rough, meaning that option was out. Ninjutsu... Was not going to be of any use here. It was too risky. "Darn... Fine, then we'll take a direct approach. Exactly how I like it!!" He smirked, sprinting towards the fox.
The animal was faster than him; physiology only had to go against the human's powers right now. Soon enough, Shikai spotted the fox slowing down near a nest relatively close to the ground. Before it would manage to grab an egg however, the boy would leap forward with his leg outstretched - aiming to kick the fox if it failed to notice. He didn't even announce the attack name, though that was his Dynamic Entry; a common opener of his. Needless to say, the predator noticed and evaded the attack, leaving Shikai to skid over the floor a bit as the beast made its escape. "No you don't!!" The boy yelled out, using the tree to kick himself off, gaining on the animal. The fox, seeing how he's cornered, soon turned to the offensive.
Shikai took a direct bite from the animal, taking his leg. "Aaargh!! You!!" Trying to punch the animal didn't work either as he avoided, leaping back and sneering at the human, baring its fangs. The Genin's leg started bleeding, of course. He'd have to tend to that later, and check if he's got rabies by some point. Bad luck with animals? Probably. "Yaah!!" Jumping towards the fox, Shikai tried punching it, predicting that the beast would avoid. As expected, it side-stepped and tried to escape; though before that, a wide-arc of the sort hit the animal's legs, causing it to fall. "Konoha Reppuu!!" A successful strike, causing his target to fall down to the ground unexpectedly. Though, animal reflexes and skills were superior to humans'; the boy acted quickly to neutralize his target.
"Dooryaah!!" He let out loudly, smashing his elbow into the fox's torso, landing considerable damage and preventing the animal from escaping; only to begin struggling with it, on the way receiving a fair share of scratches and bites, grazing his skin. Until finally... "Enough of that!!!" ...He lost it, headbutting directly into the animal's head, knocking it unconsciousness. He sighed as the orange beast fell to the ground, unmoving. "Phew... Gotta take care of that one..." Picking up the body, Shikai went towards the main hall, reporting the unconscious animal and delivering it. After that's done, he could get back to his mission.
While it wasn't the same nest as earlier, Shikai could take his time to observe another nest, this time with the mother carrying food to her chicks. From the looks of how vigorously they were eating, he could conclude there was nothing wrong with these guys. As he made his way towards another, though, he heard faint cry sounds from around a certain bush. "Hm? What's that?" Walking around the bush in search for the source proved it to be from inside. As he rustled in, the sounds grew stronger and more frightened, apparently. It was a small bird, barely grown-up, with an injured wing. A baby bird that fell, maybe? The bush most likely cushioned the fall and didn't do anything critical.
Shikai slightly chuckled to himself as he gently picked up the chick with both hands. It was a baby mockingbird chick. "What's wrong? You fell down from up there? Want to check out on your family?" As he assumed, the nest above was a mockingbird nest, and showed chicks similar to the one he picked up. This one too, seemed to be going fine, as the baby birds were soundly sleeping, the mother's chirps echoing through the forest. "Yup! Looks like it's all good here too! Isn't that great? Though... I can't give you back like you are now. We'll need to treat you." He said to the bird he picked up.
Concluding his mission, Shikai made his final reports to the attendant he had came in contact with for this mission. "But... I also found this little fellow here on the ground. I think he fell or something... Think you could nurse him back here? He's more or less stained with human stench now, and since I'm not a Hane... That'd take a while to erase, hehe... Not a bird expert myself, but I think I heard something about that. So, could you?"
