He had been a Genin since the last time Devro had stepped out of Mizu no Kuni. The weather was bearable and the breeze from the ocean had grazed his skin with mist. The sun could be seen rising over the horizon, which turned the sky a shade of peach. Breathing in deeply, the row boat reached the beach with a light thump against the sand. He hopped out of the small boat and pulled the boat further inland. The sandy brown cover was placed over the boat and tucked under the sides. He sighed and stretched his arms up to the sky as the muscles in his back stretched. The forest was close about half a kilometer off and grasslands separated him from the forest line.
"Well, looks like it's time to get started," he said with a devious smile. Crossing the grasslands was getting dull to him. Long distance missions tended to be long and daunting. There wasn't anyone to talk to or fool around with, but himself. To pick up kill his boredom, he decided to do push ups in the grass. With each push up he would push himself off of the ground and clap his hands after every lift off. Five minutes had passed and his arms started to get little tired. He hopped in place a couple of times and began to sprint toward the edge of the forest line. With each passing meter, he felt his body becoming fueled with adrenaline.
He passed the boundary of the forest still sprinting at top speed, starting to slow himself down to a standard running speed. Moving through the trees on the ground a branch was in jumping distance. He stepped up on the tree trunk and propelled himself toward the branch. Upon grabbing the branch, he spun himself around it a couple of times and used the force to get higher up into the tree tops. Devro swept through the trees with high endurance as he flipped and propelled himself branch to branch. It had been awhile since he had such freedom like this. It was good to get out of the village once in awhile and not worry about the hassles of inner village life.
The feeling he had was that of an exfoliating of his mind. The fresh air had relaxed him from the mental stress of being a ninja. It reminded him that he had some level of peace in his mind. He wasn't the level head type, but the one that would get up in your face and still whoop your ass if you crossed him kind of ninja. A flock of birds scattered as he swept by them. More like swept through them. Spitting out a couple of feathers, he started to think that he should inhale so deeply when moving fast paced. That was just common sense.
The tree line started to come into view, he stopped and jumped off the branch and hung on it with his hands. He started to swing and finished the swing into front flip a few meters from the edge. Breaking the tree line to enter the plains, he could see a stream that separated him and a farm. He crossed the stream by pulsing his chakra through his feet and crossed it pretty quickly. A little kid standing in a potato field waved his hand madly at him, but was given the cold shoulder. He wouldn't waste his time messing waving at some kid. This mission was supposed to be discreet as possible.
Running through the plains was just too simple, so he decided to run a few meters and occasionally pop a flip bouncing off of his hands interchangeably. This mission was already running smoothly, so far. From what he could tell about the maps he was given, he was approximately two clicks from his primary location. There was a small dot off in the distance that had to be the village he was briefed about. After propelling himself off of his right hand for the last time, he landed on his feet in a squatted position. The sun was already starting to peak. It had taken him a few hours to get here, but he made it.
It was time for a short break. He opened up his canteen and took a sip from it to then recap it. After fifteen minutes of resting, he began to get closure to the village, but remain a safe distance. The total idea of avoiding the village really irked his nerves, but he wasn't even supposed to be in this land. If the government found out that a Kirigakure ninja was in their land it wouldn't be pretty. The country was big enough not to be noticed by any small fry mercenaries or he didn't want to take his chances. It wasn't like him to avoid confrontation. Confrontation was something that went along with his personality. His nindo is "the weak shall not surpass me."
Searching the next few hours for the green lilies, he started to get agitated. He hadn't seen one yet and was starting to become antsy. He came upon a large hill that had a large below it. Next to it, he noticed some green plants that differed from the plants around him. Little did he know, the farm had been abandoned for years. The farmer had been evicted by some small time thugs. He glanced around quickly to check for any people. There hadn't been anyone around as far as he could tell. He picked about seven of the plants just in case a couple didn't last the trip. Pulling of his small knapsack, he pulled out a jar and placed the plants inside of it for safe keeping.
"That was easy," he said mumbling to himself. He started to sprint toward the hill in a quick dash and started to make his way back to the beach. It had been a long trivial day and he was ready to get out of this forsaken country. After making his way back to the forest, he made camp and decided to sleep among in the branches. One of the things, he didn't do was sleep on the ground away from flat land. Too many things could randomly run into you or you could come across an unwanted opponent.
Beginning to sleep on a sturdy branch, he started to hear the crackle of shrubs and dead wood. The only source of light was the moon itself which pierced through the canopy of the trees. He opened his eyes and looked down. It happened to be a couple of mercenaries/bandits that had strolled out into the forest. From what he could tell, they were pretty young. Maybe about 16 or 17 in age. The way they carried themselves was like they didn't have any formal training if any at all. If he had to disperse them it would be easy and simple. They were clueless and they probably wouldn't put up much of a fight.
Devro walked closer to the edge of the branch and a cracking sound could be heard from the tree. The two teenagers looked around, but couldn't see anything. The older one out of the two had lit a torch and started to quickly fling it around wildly. Devro stood still and a voice yelled out from the shadows. "You dimwits, he's in the tree," the random voice yelled. They threw up a random torch and he could be seen in the light of the flames. He jumped out of the tree in a back flip and landed on the ground in a squatted position, now standing up at full height.
The torch that was on the ground started to spread fire and partially lit up the area. The flames gleamed off of his face and his piercings. The older teen drew his sword and the other one behind him drew a kunai. Devro laughed and held up a hand sign to act like he was focusing his chakra. He was going to use pure taijutsu for the most part. The older teen charged at him with his sword. Devro hopped backwards as the opponent swung down missing him by a long shot. After his opponent's force was moving forward, Devro threw his weight into his fist and made contact with the teens gut. The mercenary hit the ground and held his stomach as he was squirmed.
Devro then motioned to the one behind him with a pat on his neck. The motion was a sign to aim for his back. The teenager ran at him from behind. Devro quickly turned on his heel as his opponent came into his range. Moving to the teen's side and misdirecting the enemy's kunai hand away from him with his left hand, he used his right fist and sent it into the teen's stomach. He then used his palm and extend it toward the guy's nose. Two down and one more to go. Devro quickly studied his work and then gave the remaining teen a hard look and began to speak in an eerie tone. The two fallen, started to limp away toward their comrade who did nothing.
"Let me show you why they call me the Volcanic Demon." He quickly formed hand seals and took a deep breath and exhaled. Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu - Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique. He summoned a large fireball from his maws and consumed the area in front of him in flames, which made the torch look like a match to a fireplace. Looking at the damage he created, his would have been opponent's were left steaming and unconscious. He laughed hysterically at the carnage he created, tightened the straps on his bag and walking away from the flames and burning timber.
Eventually, he made his way back to the beach in the dark of night and uncovered the boat from the sandy cover. The wind pressure was high. It was a good sign that a storm wasn't coming, so he took the initiative and pushed his boat in the water. He took the paddle and started to paddle from side to side. It was time to go home.
