Kaede Shimotsuki doesn't really have a set clothing style she likes to wear; so long as it's stylish and looks good, it goes. It doesn't even matter what occasion it's worn on; it's all good, if she looks good. Physical appearance and impressions matter much to this girl. The regular Iwagakure Shinobi outfit is unfortunately not of her preferences, and rarely would she don it. As such, it is rather hard to tell she's a Ninja, with her characteristics only adding to such confusion.
Kaede has shoulder-length bright blond hair, neatly cut in the same level. She keeps the left side of her hair behind her ear. Kaede's eyes are blue, she shows a rather large forehead and her skin tone is pale. She stands at 5'4" and boasts a healthy, petite form (at least that's some effort invested thanks to being a Shinobi). Don't let her small frame fool you though, she's as much a Chuunin as any other. A certain addition on Kaede's form that is often noticed are twin, red-ring earrings, which she doesn't seem to change, in contrast to her fondness of different fashions.

Kaede Shimotsuki can be called a 'people's person', in her own odd way that is. Being usually cold towards strangers and not showing any care for anybody, Kaede is a loner that lives off others' faults for amusement. She's got a sharp, sarcastic tongue that will be used to shun and diss unwanted company, not carrying any respect for anyone, being the natural rebel that she is. Honorifics are silly additions people make to suck up to others, in her opinion, and she doesn't need to butter anybody; she's very much fine handling herself, thank you very much. Even though she has all that, Kaede is lazy, and wouldn't usually work or really engage in activities unless someone bugs her enough for such, or sits her up straight. She's aware of her duty as a Chuunin of Iwagakure. She just doesn't mind it too much, she much prefers killing time in any fun way. You could very easily compare Kaede to a cat.
Despite her laziness, Kaede did get through the Chuunin Exams and is now a full-fledged Shinobi. That is because even she, has a competitive side that shows when she's outdone: because she hates seeing others showing off. She would work her way and improve herself in order to put the flamboyant punks in their places, only gaining for herself on the way. Kaede hates being referred to as just a 'woman', in her childhood being as much the same as any guy and even exceeding them: she can't stand chauvinism and would likely loathe at any attempt hinting she's incapable of something just because of her gender. She's a strict believer of equality, though in her own rather extreme way. Kaede honestly easily gets jealous of others, and takes losses badly, with a tantrum before finally admitting defeat at something. At least she has that to help her keep going, not giving up if she's fired up to do something.
Now don't get me wrong, Kaede isn't all bad. The few that do get Kaede's trust have a friend for life, one that is very deeply caring even if not shown on the surface. Her cold behavior is replaced with simply regular friendliness when she's around friends, and her kindness surfaces. Matching such, if anybody dares go against those she cares for or respects, then they'll have to deal with the girl. Kaede's actually prone to playfulness, silly or naughty, around her friends; in a way, compensating for her childhood. Even as an adult. She will find humor and amusement in her friends' reactions to unpredictable actions she might commit (and when it is predictable, it's simply bold and straight-forward), but really would hate to become disliked by such people. Kaede's respect is hard to gain, but when it is, she's definitely your ally for a lifetime. Despite all playfulness around friends, Kaede never actually experienced something like a real relationship, and the idea scares her. This is why she would usually pass it as a joke and quickly switch the subject; but that doesn't mean she doesn't get crushes from time to time. She's human too, you know. Only on that matter, she would have to be pursued. But, to ease on the person she has an eye for, Kaede would probably give a few hints, small 'crumbs of bread' for them to notice.
Though she has all that, Kaede is incapable of neglecting her biggest shameful trait. She can hide it, but not dispatch it. Her secret, is that Kaede Shimotsuki has an obsession with stuffed animals. Perhaps it's compensation for never having any of those kind of things as a child, but their adorableness and pleasant fluffiness is irresistible. While she can hide her affection towards those things in the open public, people she would be close enough to will undoubtfully notice her quirk, as clear as it would get in the company of those she feels comfortable around. She has an impressive collection of such at her home, in fact. And if the subject would be brought up after discovery, it'd be an immediate ticket to fluster Kaede, making her deny it and throw threats around concerning such a secret. What can I say? We all have our little secrets.

When she was little, Kaede Shimotsuki was convinced she grew up in a completely normal environment and that every other child in Iwagakure grew up the same way. She was obviously wrong.
Being poor and barely passing as Genin despite their age, the Shimotsuki couple couldn't afford much of an apartment in a run-down neighborhood in the village, living alongside several 'suspicious' individuals, either in the hiding inside the village, or plainly dejected from society for their own reasons. Needless to say the society they got themselves into affected their personalities, which passed in time to their single daughter as well. With that fact, it was obvious that Kaede grew 'astray' from the ideal child parents could wish for, most of her time hanging out with the kids of her poor neighborhood doing whatever punks would do. Nothing pleasant, mind you, besides caring for their own kind. As a little girl, Kaede was just the same as the boys on the streets, and never received anything from her parents appropriate for a young girl.
Kaede entered the Academy first at the age of 8 and passed by the age of 11, after three years, being the lazy girl she was with no patience for practice or anything troublesome such as studying or, really bothering with the whole 'ninja' deal. It upset the Shimotsuki couple to see their daughter neglecting her life like that, but seeing how she at least passed, they were glad enough with that, leaving the girl to fend for herself by that point. What choice did they have, anyway? Having now attained a rank that gives her the 'okay' for working on her own, the Shimotsuki couple could now start investing in their own life. In the neighborhood's life, at least. Needless to say, Kaede felt much lonelier since she officially became a Shinobi.
So she quit. She froze on the Genin state and refused to take any missions seriously, often leaving her teammates to do the dirty work for her. This had become a habit of hers soon afterwards, in her personal life too. Refusing to work and using the fact she was still under her parents' care to her advantage, Kaede figured she could keep on living under their watch forever; so they put her in an orphanage. Not that it really mattered much to the rebel girl, all that changed for her was who it was that takes care of her officially. She soon came to learn how much a real caretaker is important in her life, when the orphanage lady showed kindness and deep care for the newly accepted child regardless of her foul attitude.
On Kaede's twelfth birthday, the nice orphanage mother granted her with a stuffed animal. It was a cat doll, which she became infatuated with right away. That cat stuffed animal is the start of Kaede's obsession with stuffed animals, and something she could work for: money, both for the nice lady, and for stuffed animals. The girl soon turned 15, and was appointed a Chuunin shortly after; her skills improving in time as she started taking life, and the job, more seriously.
Though misfortune strikes, and the orphanage mother died of illness. Kaede was to return to her parents, now as a Chuunin, and a teenager who can take care of herself. And she did just that: refusing to really accept her parents, seeing how they sent her to a place where they won't have to see each other, the young rebel did nothing to help the state of the house, causing her parents' rage and occasional abuse. Although she was more skilled than they as a Shinobi, she still knew her place as a child of the Shimotsuki and didn't fight back: only provoke, only using her mouth to verbally assault her parents using frustrating attacks and a cold attitude.
Kaede never really grew out of the slums she lived in. Physically, she did; mentally, she still sees that run-down neighborhood as her home, not due to her parents, but due to the environment. Her childhood friends. She would forever carry that rowdy lifestyle with her, even as an eighteen-year-old Chuunin living in a small apartment alone, in a much better range of Iwagakure. And about the parents? Who cares about those. Kaede Shimotsuki is now a free person, only attending herself. | ooc info
