| ❝ The Chuunin Exams were highly important to the reputation and relations of Sunagakure. They were also a huge concern of Kotone's. She knew here weaknesses well: she couldn't protect herself against ninjutsu, she couldn't perform ninjutsu beyond the basictechniques and she didn't have any long-ranged attacks. The strangeness of her chakra networks gave her a natural defense against genjutsu - it was hard to affect chakra networks that were uneven and flowed in an awkward, clotting manner - but that didn't mean she was immune to them either. Unless she had the luck of being paired with a taijutsu specialist every time she fought, then it looked like she would be out of luck. She would have to rely on her intelligence to make it out with at least half of her pride intact.
Every time a jounin looked a genin in the eye and asked: "Are you taking the exams this year?" they really meant: "If you are, don't screw it up." The genin reflected on Suna as a whole and the future of Suna as well - the genin that made it to the final round would attract attention to their countries, the ones that didn't might drive their countries to poverty. It was a logical process. Powerful genin had powerful teachers and lived in a powerful environment. Weak genin had weak teachers and lived in a weak environment. While this wasn't universal, it worked on average and she couldn't think of a strong village in the history of the Chuunin exams that hadn't made it to the finals, nor a weak village who had.
This morning she was going to train with the Kazekage herself, someone she was sure would be beneficial to her training. Not only was the Kazekage admirable, powerful and amazing, she also had long range attacks that were perfect to train against. She was eager to train and eager to prove herself.
"Kazekage-sama?" She asked curiously, walking in to the training grounds.

D It wasn't often that the Kazekage trained a genin. Hell, she had only had one team before she became the Kazekage. Taking on a the training of a few genin was much more entertaining than working on paperwork and politics all the time. It was why Demiyah had jumped at the chance to train the girl in the first place. Of course she knew everything there was to know about Katone. It was all in her file. In fact, she'd been keeping an eye on the girl ever since she'd moved out on her own, away from her father. It was disconcerting that she'd never realized what was going on with the girl until it had happened. An investigation into her father had lead to many discoveries, many of which Demiyah was not an advocate of. The father had been put on a watch list and Demiyah was notified every time the father made some sort of decision or move that seemed off. She wasn't going to have children tortured in her village every again if she could so help it. So that was why she was standing in the training field, her arms behind her back, her bow and quiver of arrows hidden in a secret location while she trained her new student. She was staring at the targets that she'd been practicing with only hours before, going through the strategies that she had developed during her own session. How to evade, when to evade, where to escape when someone got to close, how to escape when put into a compromising position. She was deep within her own thoughts when she felt someone closing in on the training grounds, turning to face the direction that they were coming from. She knew exactly who it would be. Young Kotone. She quite liked the girl even though they had never had a lot of interaction. Demiyah was the type to watch from afar and observe the potential of her shinobi. Kotone was no different. When the girl met up with her finally, Demiyah gave a small smile. "Good morning, Kotone. Please, just call me Demiyah," she said lightly, dusting her hands off on her pants as she stepped toward the girl. "I'm glad it was I who earned the opportunity to train you. We've got a lot to get done today, so let's not waste any time, alright? Afterward I'll take you for dinner, alright?" she asked with a smile, touching the girls shoulder and waiting for a reaction.

| ❝ The young genin felt a twinge of bashfulness run up her spine as the Kazekage smiled at her. She smiled back shyly, awestruck with admiration and nervousness all at once. All people had their role models and Kotone was looking at hers right now. The Kazekage was someone who had to be powerful, physically, mentally and emotionally. They bore the weight of a village and it's well-being on their shoulders and it was just - wow.
The sudden desire to make sure she didn't let the Kazekage down filled her. She had dedicated hours and hours to making sure that her forms were perfect and her punches and kicks were strong enough. There had been no goal in mind at the time of the training, but now that she was standing in front of the Kazekage, ready to train, she felt as if she had climbed a mountain unknowingly and had just reached the peak. She had worked for so long and now that she stood here in the training grounds, she felt as if this was all she had been working for.
Of course, the notion was slightly ridiculous. She hadn't known that Demiyah was going to train her but she liked to imagine that some overarching force had planned out fate this way. There were no coincidences in the shinobi world.
With wide eyes that sparkled with noticeable admiration, Kotone watched the Kazekage. Call her Demiyah? she wondered to herself. She would if the Kazekage wished, but she couldn't hide her surprise. The Kazekage must have been very humble and kind - not only had she offered the younger girl a shard of familiarity, but she had also put Kotone at ease with an uncommon grace.
"Of course, Demiyah-sama," She said in response to the Kazekage's first request. "I would like that very much," she continued after Demiyah finished speaking. "Thank you for taking the time to train with me."
She offered Demiyah a wider and warmer smile than before as the older woman reached out to touch her shoulder. Strange as it seemed, she didn't associate touches with torture. She associated them with the comfort of knowing that one was not alone - she feared needles more than she did people.
"Shall we begin?" she asked, readying her stance.

WAKE ME UP WHEN ITS ALL OVER, WHEN I'M WISER AND I'M OLDER ❝ Long arms shot up over the redhead, reaching towards the sky in a much needed stretch. "Meow~?" a high pitched purr rang from his chest, and his red eyes slowly opened to look towards the sky. It was a beautiful afternoon in Sunagakure. A bright blue sky devoid of clouds allowed the sun's warmth to shine down on the young man's body. There was the slightest breeze in the air, carrying small particles of sand as it combed through the grass and ruffled his messy locks. Dropping his hands down to his side, he let one slowly move up towards his chest, gently brushing against the furry creature who'd nestled on his shirt. "Did you have a good nap, neko-chan?" he asked through a yawn, scratching behind the cat's ear as it purred. Naps, simply put, were amazing. "Hm?" the sound of voices caught the attention of the groggy redhead, causing him to slowly sit up, much to the chagrin of the sleepy kitten on his chest. With a furrowed brow, he gently set the kitten down, watching as it scurried off into a bush. Well, this is odd, he thought, frowning as he slowly stood up and walked towards the direction of the disturbance. Walking about twenty feet ahead of him, he peeked his head around a large tree trunk. "Demi," he called, stepping out from his spot behind the tree. "Training again?" he asked, looking for the source of the noise from earlier. What was unfortunate enough to be her target today? An old tree? His eyes scanned passed his older cousin, landing on pink? The girl stood in a stance he could only assume was for hand-to-hand combat. I see. It wasn't like the Kazekage to take on training their shinobi personally. Which could only mean this girl was special. That, or it was pity. Now that he'd had a good long look at her, he recognized the girl as Kotone Namino. A darling girl with an awful past. "Looks interesting. Mind if I watch?" he asked with a light smile. He'd been careful not to use the word 'join', as he had little aspiration to train. Fresh out of a nap, Tetsu was as lazy as ever. Still, he was a medical ninja, and he figured he could at least offer the girl his services. ooc: sorry for the wait!MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

T he Kazekage smiled gently down at her new student, letting out a small chuckle as the girl fell into a position that would aid in hand to hand combat. Silently she observed her student's posture, her eyes moving slowly along the girls form. Demiyah then reached forward, placing her hands on the girls shoulders. "First of all, you want you want this leg back a little more. You lead with your dominant side and brace with yourself with the other. You need to make sure that you can brace yourself and if your feet are so close together, you'll just fall when attacked," she noted calmly, giving a small smile as she repositioned the girl into a proper stance. With that, Demiyah herself started to fall into a training stance before a familiar voice cut in through her thoughts. She straightened back up at the arrival of her cousin, watching him silently for a moment. This was perfect. Tetsu was young enough and green enough that pitting the two against each other in training would be beneficial to both. Besides, Demiyah had her eye on Kotone for the team that she was forming, and Tetsu was the first member. Lifting an eyebrow, her foot slid a little to the left and she was suddenly gone from in front of Kotone, standing behind Tetsu and draping an arm over his shoulder, leaning in toward his ear. "Actually, you can do more than watch, Tetsu," she said with a slight hint of amusement. With the thought still fresh in her mind, she looked up toward Kotone, "I'll be honest, Kotone. One of the only reasons I'm helping you with your training is because I'm looking to form a special squad after the chuunin exams. I was looking for you to be a member of that team with myself, and my cousin here," she said, poking her little cousin in the spine with a bit of a playful expression. "So it'd only be fitting that I've have the two of your train together," she continued, a bright look in her eyes. "If you accept this offer, once the chuunin exams have been completed, we shall start taking missions, and your training will become even more extensive and difficult than it has ever been," the Kazekage noted honestly, removing her arm from over Tetsu's shoulder and moving to stand should to to shoulder with him. "But, I would be your teacher from now until you no longer need me," she said with a smile, looking a little hopeful that the girl would accept the offer. "That being said, Tetsu, today you're working on your taijutsu skills," she said calmly, motioning for him to step forward and stand across from Kotone. "You'll need a relatively descent skill level in taijutsu to keep up with the rest of us, after all." Now she was just playing dirty, taunting her younger cousin the best she could. 489 - Kotone Namino and @tetsu - Soooooo sorry for the slow posting. I'm trying to catch up, I swear!

| ❝ Kotone watched as Demiyah corrected her stance, making sure to memorize the stance she was in for future reference. She gave the Kazekage an obedient nod, her focus wavering with the arrival of a new person. She was too easily distracted and the presence of a new person almost made her relax her stance and leave herself open, but she caught herself before she could make that mistake. She blinked as the Kazekage moved in an impossibly fast manner behind the boy and invited him - Tetsu, she had learned - to join in their spar. It would be useful, she mused to herself indifferently. They probably wouldn't be able to land a hit on Demiyah anyway, but it would do no good to think negatively.
Her attention spanned back to Demiyah as the older kunoichi addressed her directly. Cousin? she noted to herself. Team? Kotone preferred being alone, but in every mission she would be on a team regardless. It would be better to have consistency, she thought, pragmatically. Besides, the idea of training with the Kazekage was simply not rejectable. But did this mean she had to pass the chuunin exams? Her eyes widened. If it did, she would have to do her best. Because what the Kazekage was promising extended far beyond anything a jounin sensei could provide for her. It was safety.
She had never minded struggling or training hard. What she did mind was the feeling of helplessness. And she would do anything to make it go away. "If I pass..." she began hesitantly. "If I pass the exams, please let me join your team." Part of her was honored by the offer. She wasn't extraordinary, just a girl that was lucky enough to catch the Kazekage's eye out of the dozens of genin that she could pick so. I can't let Demiyah-sama down, she told herself. If Demiyah had no faith in the girl, she wouldn't have mentioned anything until after the promotion. Kotone tilted her head downward. It had been a long time since anyone had given her the same amount of time and kindness the Kazekage just had. I won't.
She looked at Tetsu as the Kazekage beckoned him to join their spar. She didn't know where his skills lay, but she could assume that he wasn't a taijutsu primary. Genjutsu, maybe? Or ninjutsu?Would Demiyah try to balance the team? she wondered. She probably would, if they were going to be a team for a long time. And would she count herself in the balance? It made a difference, of course. If Demiyah was planning on filling a role in the team actively, then they probably wouldn't have a long distance ninjutsu user. If she wasn't, then this might be him.
