In the world of Naruto there are many shinobi who work with and train pets to fill a variety of different roles. These range from combat to companionship, and can come in a variety of different shapes and sizes. Many of these pets are able to use chakra and jutsu just like their masters and over time will become fiercely loyal when raised properly. Unlike a summoned creature, a pet is almost always with their master and when they aren't, they cannot be immediately called upon during battle. Some of these pets are wild animals that have been tamed by an individual while others are domesticated and bred specifically for their designated purpose. Regardless of what kind of pet you have, they all follow the same ranking system.
Non-Combat Pet
Non-Combat pets are exactly what they sound like. These are not shinobi animals and are simple domesticated companions. This doesn't mean they can't inflict damage or try and defend their owner but they would likely be outclassed by trained academy students. Non-Combat pets can not rank up, are cheaper to purchase than other pets and have no access to chakra or techniques.
E-Rank Combat Pet
E-Rank pets are usually just babies or brand new to a combat role. They have next to no skill and can barely handle climbing stairs, let alone control their chakra. These pets have no jutsu and need you to show them what to do every step of the way. It is strongly advised that these pets do not accompany a shinobi on a real mission as the possibility of them being killed is incredibly high.
D-Rank Combat Pet
D-Rank pets are weak but are starting to show promise. They have begun to grow physically and this allows them to be more effective in combat, even if they still cannot control their chakra. They can bite, scratch and hit harder than they could at E-Rank. It is common to see Genin with pets of this rank, though it is still advised that any mission above D-Rank be completed without them. These pets still require lots of instructions.
C-Rank Combat Pet
C-Rank pets can demonstrate basic chakra control and have started to learn basic abilities/jutsu. With this increase in ability they have started to become effective in combat against enemy shinobi. This makes them more than capable of assisting their masters with missions. They have become much more self sufficient and can complete tasks without the aid or instruction of their master.
B-Rank Combat Pet
B-Rank pets are adept in combat and will have a variety of jutsu to draw from. At this point fighting alone or with their owner doesn't much matter as they are completely capable of taking care of themselves. When used properly they are a huge help on missions and are even able to complete difficult tasks on their own. At this point it wouldn't be sensible for a shinobi to leave their pet behind on any kind of mission.
A-Rank Combat Pet
A-Rank pets are not to be underestimated as they are deadlier than your average shinobi. Advanced jutsu and chakra control allows them to be an asset in combat, both in an offensive and defensive position. They are incredibly fast and can strike kill points with absolute precision. Their loyalty to their master is absolute and they would rather die than stop protecting them. This makes them a valuable ally.
S-Rank Combat Pet
S-Rank pets have been raised to become killing machines. They are faster and deadlier than most shinobi and are capable of using jutsu that would be beyond even someone who is of jounin rank. Going up against one in combat is ill-advised and every attempt should be made to avoid them. At this level it would appear to an outsider that the master and the pet have a telepathic bond, being able to coordinate and complete attacks together without any commands or indications.
Keep in mind that in combat they are treated like a separate person but you will have to role-play them in your characters post.

Specializations: What are your pets specializations? 1st one is unlocked at D-Rank, 2nd at B-Rank.

Abilities: Provide information on any special abilities your pet has.
Now because a pet is possibly the most dynamic and powerful "item" you can purchase on our site, they have an advanced rank up system that makes it necessary to put quite a bit of extra work and money into making them stronger. Below are the guidelines surrounding ranking up your pet as well as getting new abilities/jutsu for your animal.
First of all, the requirements for going up each rank is seen below here:
E-Rank to D-Rank
D-Rank to C-Rank
C-Rank to B-Rank
B-Rank to A-Rank
A-Rank to S-Rank
Instead of a set of skills like your characters get, you get to pick two specializations for your combat pet. The first specialization is available at D-Rank. The second you unlock at B-Rank. Your combat pet may only ever have one chakra nature (unlocked at D-Rank), and you may only ever have one pet, unless your first one passes away.
In addition to this, with each rank, your pet gains a larger jutsu/ability capacity, making them more and more useful the more that they rank up. Abilities can be anything that passively relates to your pet, such as a high stealth skill, or brute strength. Keep in mind that at S-Rank, 10 abilities and jutsu are your max. You can mix and match them as much as you'd like, but you cannot have over ten.
You will have to create custom jutsu for your pet if you are not using Canon jutsu, and you will have to pay for them just like when you purchase jutsu for your character. Abilities cost 500 Ryo each, and they can only be minor passive abilities that enhance the pet. This is used in replacement of a skill tree like the human shinobi use. If you would like your pet to be able to use weapons, you will need to purchase a special "Weaponsmaster" ability that will take up one of your abilities slots. This allows for your combat pet to specialize in the use of a single weapon type, and you will have to by kenjutsu techniques for your pet.
If you wish to create collaboration jutsu for you and your pet, you only need to purchase it once, and both your character and the combat pet will have access to the jutsu.
Here is the maximum number of abilities and jutsu your pet may have depending on their rank.
E-Rank: 0 Abilities/Jutsu
D-Rank: 2 Abilities/Jutsu
C-Rank: 3 Abilities/Jutsu
B-Rank: 4 Abilities/Jutsu
A-Rank: 7 Abilities/Jutsu
S-Rank: 10 Abilities/Jutsu
Concerning the training of your combat pet, when you do missions, and your pet fights with you in the mission, it may count as a single training thread. This means that your character will not be able to use that thread as a training thread if your pet does, and vice versa. On the other hand, if you do a training thread where you work with your pet, it will count as a training thread for the both of you.
