History:
The Suoh Clan formed centuries before the erection of Iwagakure. Starting out, they were a simple group of miners and blacksmiths, and there were not many children in their midst. Finding comfort in the mines that they excavated every day of their lives, the Suoh clan formed their home underground, preferring the dark, warmed underground to the bright and cold atmosphere of the outside world. They worked hard and enjoyed life. They coveted the steel that they created in their great forges, and as the years wore on after their clans formation, they grew stronger. In fact, eventually, they came to be masters of fire, steel, and even puppetry.
In the early years, when the clan had not yet migrated to what would eventually become Iwagakure, families started to grow within the small clan as both men and women married into the clan and gave rise to a new generation of children. Around the time of these births, their first home ran out of supplies, thus putting them out of work and throwing them into deep poverty. The leaders of the clan, a council of three of the strongest members of the clan, decided to leave their first compound to seek out a new home. After months of searching, they finally found a place settled in the rocks and mountains of Iwagakure, and started to excavate it. They formed an underground cavern in which they made their first mining camp. This place was much different than the home that they'd had before, but they loved it even more so than their last. The air was warm and the place was dark, which was exactly how they liked it.
As the years wore on, and they bore more children into their clan, a great discovery was made. The newer generations had the ability to bend and form steel to their will. Some of them could even coat their bodies and the world around them with steel that formed from their chakra. The strongest of these young men, as it had been discovered that the women born into the clan were never born with the kekkei genkai that had formed within their line, was a man named Ryuu Suoh. In fact, when he grew up, he was known for being the man to unite the entire clan under the formation of Iwagakure. He himself signed the treaty between the clans that gave rise to the great village Hidden in the Stone, and posed as the very first representative of his clan. Ryuu's power was great and he was revered by many of his clan members as their leader and protector.
Upon Ryuu's death, the clan locked Ryuu's sacred armor within their vaults, protecting it from prying eyes and sticky fingers. Upon every ceremony day, and every festival, the armor would be taken out and displayed to give the impression that their great leader was still there with them. Many of the Suoh women named their little boys after Ryuu, forming many different variations on the great Suoh leaders first name.
Years and years passed and the Suoh clan became known for their steel, their kekkei genkai, and their affinity for fire, heat, and anything of the sort. They formed some of the greatest weapons and armor in existance and their steel was constantly sought after. The Suoh Clan has always been a secretive clan, however. They are not the type to divulge their secrets and they hold very tightly to their traditions. As much as the various clans of Iwagakure and even a few infamous merchants pried the Suoh for information on how they formed such great steel, they refused to let anything be known.
Tensions grew a little tighter when a few members of Iwagakure attempted to steal into the Suoh Clan's compound and search for their secrets. What they met there were large automoton puppets created by the Suoh themselves. The Suoh clan members who controlled them were fearsome and strong, and the members of Iwagakure were beaten back harshly and badly. The trust between the Suoh Clan and their village had been broken, and from then on the security in the Underworld, as they called their clan compound, was increased and their compound heavily guarded from then on.
There was quite a bit of peace between the clan in the village for many years, but the Suoh still clung tight onto their traditions and their secrets, refusing to let anything past their lips when it came to the secret of the steel and artifacts that they created. Devastation struck the clan in recent years, however. A branch of the Suoh clan that was charged with the protection of the clan was slaughtered by one of their own, leaving only two brothers. One older, at the age of 20, and one younger, only 8 years old at the time. The older brother, in his rage, chased after the man that had slaughtered his family and stolen the great Ryuu Suoh's armor in the process. He was never seen from or heard of again, and the clan was thrown into extreme mourning.
Twelve years since that day when their defenses were broken, the Clan has started to call for help from the village to have their first leaders armor sought out and returned, as well as the murderer to be returned alive to them for proper retribution. However, as the Suoh have been so secretive in years past, the people of the village have been a little less than willing to help them. With tensions starting to rise out of the anger and grief of having their most treasured relic stolen and a prominent family of the clan murdered, the Suoh clan is starting to rise from the ground and are ready to fight for their relic themselves.
Biological Traits:
The members of the Suoh clan always have, and always will have blonde hair. Eye colors tend to vary depending on the family line, but gold, green, and blue eyes are the norm. A few clan members have even been known to have mismatched eye colors.
The nature of the Suoh's kekkei genkai is extremely harsh on the human body. As such, female members who are born into the clan do not generally live past their first year of life. In fact, many of the female Suoh clan members are born still and never even get to see the light of life. Female members that survive to grow into kunoichi, however, are never born with the kekkei genkai.
Female Suoh clan members, instead, are born with incredible chakra control, but weakened endurance. They are more often than not trained as medical ninja and are absolutely renowned for their skill in the field, considering there are any women that survive in a generation.
Male Suoh clan members have increased reaction times in dark or dim lighting, and increased endurance compared to other shinobi. Renowned for their battle strategies, Suoh men are usually sought out for positions of leadership within different village organizations such as the police force, or the village's council.
On the other hand, some male Suoh members have been known to be great puppet masters of steel "automoton" puppets. Because of the weight that each of these puppets posses, the steel release kekkei genkai shifts and changes to allow easier transport of their puppet companions, whilst causing the shinobi to lose the ability to turn their bodies into steel or manipulate and transform weapons.
A trait that all Suoh clan members have is increased eyesight in the dark. This is entirely due to the fact that when the clan first formed, the entire clan was built of miners and blacksmiths that spent their every day underneath the ground or in caves as they plied their trade. Each member had to be able to see to work, so as the years went on, their eyes adjusted and became more accustomed to the darkness. Children were born able to see in complete darkness, and as such, the Suoh clan members are actively sought out for missions that require complete and total darkness, or need to be completed in the dead of night.
Most Suoh clan members have the Katon affinity, as it ties in with their skills as blacksmiths.

The Underworld
The Commons - The Plateau
The Underworld is the Suoh's clan compound. It was built underground in the first years of Iwagakure's erection. It was previously used by the miners as a camp for their workers, but as the clan formed and life underground became normal and much like that of a family, the miners and blacksmiths that lived and worked in the Underworld started to make a true home for themselves. They carved homes and buildings deep into the walls of the expansive cave. At the time of the clans formation, the entire compound was comfortably filled, but as time wore on and the clan grew even more, they had to expand the compounds range and built apartments and small shops into the opposite side of the large cave.
If you follow a long path deeper into the ground, you'll come to an extremely large cavern that appears to have been there for thousands of years. The cavern is completely open at the bottom, save for a very large plateau that is connected to by a large and ornate stone bridge. It is an extremely long drop to the lava lake that lies below the plateau that it is said that people who fall into it die before they even hit the lava, whether it be from fear or having been boiled alive by the heat.
The Plateau, as it's called, is home to the clans very large and expansive tradesman's cavern. The people who work here are blacksmiths, miners, and appraisers. The Plateau is also home to a large smelter where they create the steel that they use in all of their weaponry and armor. They don't work with just steel, however, and have been known to make the most ornate artifacts and jewelry that you can get in all five shinobi nations. The care that they put into their work while here is immense and they are proud of every piece that they make.
From the Plateau you can take an adjoining tunnel into the mines where, over the years, the Suoh clan has carved their way through the never ending stone where iron, gold, and silver are in great and seemingly infinite abundance.
During times of war, the Suoh Compound is often used as a safe haven for civilians to escape to. There is a very large chamber very deep into the compound that is virtually undetectable and is completely hidden, offering the best protection for the citizen of Iwagakure.
Clan Tendencies
The Suoh are rather particular people. Despite their love of the dark and being underground, they're incredibly friendly people. They all have an incredibly close bond with one another, so theres always a sense of brotherhood between all of the members. They enjoy anything and everything that has some risk behind it and are known for their constant tendency to challenge each other to duals. They are rough and tough (even the women), and they tend to seem overly rowdy at times. An incredibly lighthearted and proud people, they're certainly some of the best allies that any village could have. Iwagakure was simply lucky that they decided to make their home under their village.
As stated before, the Suoh love the dark. They actually prefer it to being in the light. Oftentimes Suoh shinobi are sent out on missions that need to be completed in total darkness or occur in the dead of night. They like to train at night when everyone else is asleep because they feel like training in the dark is a lot more fun than when it's light out. They work best in minimal light, but that doesn't mean that they aren't just as deadly during the day as they are at night. If you see a Suoh coming your way, it's best to flee rather than face them head on.
Many members of the clan are blacksmiths. Creating weapons and armor is their trade and they ply their trade very well. In fact, they tend to supply most of Iwagakure's weapons, and it's true that without the Suoh clan, they would not have as good of steel as they do currently. Suoh men begin smithing when they first enter the academy. It's seen as a right of passage, and by the time they leave the academy as genin, they're skilled in their trade by creating both weapons, armor, artifacts, and jewelry.
Because of the heat that comes off the lava lake under the plateau, the entire compound remains warm, almost stiflingly so. The Suoh members are used to this heat, and it's one of the many reasons that they're dubbed "dragons". When a Suoh goes to the surface, more often than not they will bundle up in more clothes than their comrades simply because they grow cold easily after being so used to the heat within their home.
Clan Customs and Ways of Life
The Festival of Steel - The Festival of Steel is a Festival in which the Suoh all gather together to test their metal against each other, quite literally. They set up four different types of tournaments: Hand to Hand Combat, Puppetry, Weapon vs Weapon, and Fire vs Fire. The winners of each tournament are then put into a second tournament in which they battle the other winners to crown a single Suoh winner. It's a lot of good fun, and each member is very respectful of one another. The rules tend to be strict so that no one ends up dead, and most members find it an incredibly fun festival for their Clan. The Festival is open to the public and it can often draw in quite the crowd.
In addition to the tournaments, the blacksmiths also test their own metal by performing contests with one another to see who can create the best items in a set amount of time.
Sacred Week - Sacred Week is an entire week in the spring in which the Suoh do not work and do not go out on missions. Instead, they spend their week with their families and clanmates. Large feasts are prepared, and every day is filled with merrymaking and gifts. This is the week in which they celebrate their clans formation, and it is extremely important to them to attend every day.
Diet - Suoh diets consist of mostly red meats and hearty vegetables. They stay away from thinks like pork and potatoes, and don't really eat very much starch (besides rice from time to time). They love eggs and fish when they can get them. Suoh members tend to have sweet tooths, but in keeping with their healthy diet, they prefer fruits to any types of cakes or pastries.
Clothing/Dress - The Suoh tend to dress a little less conservative than most. The heat in the compound can be stifling depending on the day, so many of the men work with their shirts off, in nothing but strong boots and long pants. The ladies can usually be seen wandering the compound in bustiers, shorts, and boots. It's very common to see them dressed like this while within the compound, but out in the open world, they generally bundle up in warmer clothes.
Rite of Passage - The Rite of Passage for all Suoh, the ladies included (and even the ladies who marry into the clan), is a tradition that has been followed since the clans formation. The Rite of Passage is generally performed when a Suoh clan member enters the academy, but it is also to be performed at weddings in which a man or lady is marrying into the clan. The purpose and goal of the Rite of Passage is for the subject to forge their first piece of steel by themselves. As a new academy student it is a sign that you are now a true member of the clan, as well as a celebration of your life and longevity. If you are a man or woman marrying into the clan, it is a show of your acceptance as one of the Suoh and a promise of a healthy and very strong marriage to come.
Guardianship - Most of the Puppeteers of the Suoh clan have been charged with protecting the compound. They control many large automotons that they use to guard certain secret areas of the compound, as well as to help carry loads of materials from the mines to the Plateau. From the Plateau you may see an automoton carrying a heavy load of weapons and armor, always with a puppeteer following close behind.
Wednesday - Every Wednesday, the Clan opens their compound to the general public of Iwagakure. All of the shops open up with new wears and items to sell, and many merchants flock to the compound to get their hands on the artifacts and jewelry that are created by the Suoh. It's the most important day of a Souh's week if they are a merchant or blacksmith, as it makes them the most money. The rest of the week the shops are open, but only to the people of the Clan.
Duels - Duels are a common part of Suoh life. They're often one on one, and very short. Two members of the clan will spar with each other until one of them gives up. It's purely for bragging rights, and generally there are no hard feelings whatsoever between the clan members.
The Automotons
The automatons built by the Suoh clan are revered for the craftsmanship that is put into them. Strong, powerful, metallic weapons of war carried into battle by the Suoh puppeteers that use their Steel Release to make them light enough to control with puppet strings. The automatons are built in many, many, ways using the special black steel of the clan. It is said that there are as many different kinds of automatons as there are people in the world, the only limitation being the imagination of the blacksmith behind them.
Clan Companions
The common house cat has always been the clans main companion. They were originally brought into the miners camps as ways to control the pest population, but have since become the favorite animal of most clan members who live in the Underworld. If you attempt to bring a dog into the Underworld, you will be turned away, as they favor their feline companions so much that they see it as a crime to let a dog step foot into their compound and potentially harm their animals. The cats in the compound are friendly and generally walk the streets without much worry. They tend to walk right up to people, whether they are familiar or not.
Some Suoh members even have combat cats of their own in which they train. These cats have been specially bread to become as large as as a large dog and usually they are big enough to ride into any battle.
