Ryuutarou is an imposing man; standing at 6'6", the taijutsu specialist is a veritable wall of muscle. The jagged scar running down his face and over his right eye adds to the grandeur of his appearance. On his right shoulder is a tattoo; the Suoh clan's dragon symbol. His family's trademark blond hair stands in spikes atop his head, above piercing green eyes and eyebrows thinned through years working a forge.
Ryuutarou's typical clothing consists of a sleeveless black shirt and durable black pants, as well as his jounin vest and forehead protector. When he does venture outside of the Underground, he adds a longer shirt on top of his sleeveless one, as well as a fur-lined black coat. He doesn't typically carry much more gear than what he can fit in his vest and coat, preferring to travel light and rely on his taijutsu and ninjutsu rather than specialized gear, despite making all of his weapons himself. |
Ryuutarou is, most times, a rather jovial man. He doesn't take things personally. Growing up in the type of community where everyone your age is practically a sibling, and all of you are rowdy and loud, means you get used to the chaos. He's comfortable in his position in the clan, and he likes to mess with all his little siblings, both literal and metaphorical. He loves to laugh, and is generally not the type of person you expect to be a renowned taijutsu specialist.
That said, Ryuutarou knows when the time for jovial laughter and teasing has passed. If someone tries to mess with part of his family, he's more than ready to let them know when they've overstepped their bounds. He doesn't leap into violence; he has a large amount of self-control and he prefers to try to defuse a situation without fighting, or at least without throwing the first punch. Part of making your body into your greatest weapon is knowing when not to use it as a weapon, after all.
Ryuutarou does not revel in bloodshed, even when dispatched on missions specifically calling for a target's death. Glory in combat is not why Ryuutarou is an Iwagakure ninja. He does what he does because it's the best way to protect his clan, and his village. He might not enjoy it, but the tasks he takes are important to the continued functioning of his home, and so he does them. While finding a ninja who enjoys bloodshed more than Ryuutarou is simple, finding one more dedicated to his work is a much harder task. In fact, one might call his dedication stubbornness; he refuses to quit until a task is done, and to hell with how difficult it is. |
If one were to describe Ryuutarou's childhood in a word, it would be "average", which sometimes seems as if it's anything but normal among ninja. Born to a respected, but ultimately middle-class, branch family, Ryuutarou was raised by two loving parents. He had two blood brothers, and, given the sense of community the Underworld has, a few dozen relatives that might as well have been his siblings. Like most of the other Suoh boys, he was very physical, and he always wanted to learn to be a ninja. When it came time for him to enter the academy, he finally got to forge his first piece of steel without any sort of help from his parents or siblings. It wasn't a masterpiece, but he did make a perfectly serviceable black steel knife.
In the academy, he did find something he could excel at; taijutsu. Sure, he maintained passing grades in the other subjects, but he was excellent at the art of using your body as a weapon. It was during his time at the academy when one of the most respected families within the clan was absolutely devastated, an event which only drove Ryuutarou to work harder. When he graduated and became a genin, he also unlocked his Kekkei Genkai, which only helped his skills improve. Over the next few years, he improved and grew along with his teammates, and his team passed the Chuunin exam on the third try. By that point, he had discovered a reason to fight, as well as the fact that he didn't particularly enjoy it. He'd fight to make sure the people important to him were safe.
As a Chuunin, Ryuutarou proved himself a powerful fighter and eventually advanced to the rank of Jonin and was assigned a team of genin. Currently, he tries to give them the skills they need, as well as instill in them his particular philosophy; there is no glory in killing, but there is worth in protecting what's important, and there is no reason on this world to stop working towards your goal while it can still be accomplished. | ooc info
