The sun had not yet peaked over the horizon and the moon gave off some light from among the dark clouds. Devro stood at Kiri's eighth designated training field on the outskirts of the village. The field was covered in low cut grass that came up to his ankles. The field had dips and low parts where jutsu had been used and were grown over with grass. It was one the fields which people normally forgot that existed. He could feel the moisture between his toes with each step. The light rain started to escalate to a heavy down pour. A sigh was drowned out by the sound of rain. 0300 was the ideal time for training to take place. You didn't see too many shinobi training this late either. He knew from his past experiences that an attack could come from anywhere at anytime. Training in the most uncomfortable circumstances helped one be prepared. Only careful and wise shinobi lasted as long as he did. Being adaptable, increased one's survival. It kept one on their toes and sometimes you had to go back to the basics.
Devro dropped down to a neutral push up position and started to do a set of push-ups. His arms pumped his body up and down the weight of the rain on his clothes making each one more challenging. "...40, 41, 42..., 58, 59, 60.., 77, 78, 79, 80," he counted as he finished his first set of push-ups. He could feel his shoulders start to warm up. Then, started off with a light jog around the field. The light jog then evolved into a full out sprint after the first two laps around the large training area. He jogged one and sprinted two laps after about five minutes of jogging two and sprinting a lap. He then finished his twenty minute run with another set of eighty push-ups.
Deep even breathes emerged from his lungs as he took a five minute break. His brief break was over and it was time to get to business. Before he began his warm up, he had set up three target dummies in the middle of the field. The darkness and the rain obscured his vision a bit, but it wasn't anything he hadn't dealt with before. He reached into his pouch and had three kunai at his finger tips. The targets were about twenty feet away from him. He would first go for chest shots. Standing still, he exhaled and quickly drew the kunai launching them at his targets. With three flicks of his wrist, he could hear three thuds where the kunai hit their mark.
He walked toward the targets to examine them. The first kunai landed in the dummies collar. The second had landed in the second dummies chest dead center. It wasn't a bad shot at all, but he didn't consider it praise worthy. The third kunai had also landed in the third dummies chest and was a heart shot. He gathered up the three kunai and took a few more feet back from his previous spot. The last two shots where the better shots, but he knew genin and chuunin who had better aim than that. Regardless of the conditions, he judged himself harshly. He put his kunai back into his pouch and tried again. This time he put his full arm strength behind his throws. He heard again the thud of his weapons hitting their target. This time he didn't go retrieve his weapons he then pulled out three shuriken in his left hand and his remaining two kunai in his right. He threw the kunai at the first and the third targets head while doing a side leap to the right. He then executed a back flip and threw the shuriken simultaneous in mid air and aiming for the second targets head.
Devro walked toward the targets and examined each one again. All of his weapons had hit their intended targets. The first dummy had a kunai logged in its head and mid chest. The second dummy had a kunai lodged in area where an opponent's heart would be and a kunai where the opponent's mouth would be. Its head had two shuriken in its jugular and three lodged in its forehead. The third looked similar to the first, but the kunai that was aimed at the head had hit where the opponent's ear would be. He gathered up his weapons and tried aiming for the upper part of the dummies physique. A few hours had now past and it was now 0730. The rain was still heavy, but the sun had risen making it brighter. He had retrieved his ninja tools from his final set of target practice.
It was now time for him to go change his clothes before he got sick. He looked to his left and saw three genin standing in the distance watching him. From the looks of things they had just got there for training. He reached back with his right hand and flexed his fingers on his katana, Kazan Sureiyā. Him now being a few yards away, he quickly ran up to the first dummy and quickly drew his sword striking down on his target. The dummy split from the diagonal slash of his sword. He then leaped into the air and landed behind the second dummy swinging his blade at the dummies neck, which caused the head of the dummy to roll on to the ground. He then gripped his blade with both hands and threw himself toward the third dummy's back forcing his blade out through the middle of the dummy's chest. He then withdrew his blade from the dummy and sheathed his katana.
Though, he wasn't done yet he then sprinted as fast as he could toward the genin spectators and leaped into the air while facing to face the dummies. He formed hand seals while compressing a large chakra in his gut. Katon: Gōryūka no Jutsu. A massive dragon head shaped fireball had incinerated what was left of the wooden dummies. All that was left was a large crater and flames that burned even with the down pour. The genin being easily pleased, started applauding in admiration. Devro bowed his head and started walking home. His day had only just begun and he would need to change and get some rest before too long.
