swallowed by the past | Thunder boomed loudly above, vibrating the trees and the ground with its intense waves of sound. Kuro could feel the branches beneath his feet tremble as the thunder roared, and the lightning flashed, lighting of the forest sround him. The flashes of light reflected off of the leaves of the trees, and the ground beneath became clear as day, if only for a brief second. Rain fell from the ground mercilessly. It was difficult to see more than ten feet in front of him as Kuro moved from tree to tree, hoping that the rain wouldn't cause him to accidentally run into a tree, or worse, run straight into a trap that he could have easily seen otherwise. His Jounin uniform was soaking wet. There wasn't a dry spot on him. Water fell from the bottom of his vest as though it had absorbed too much of the rain, overflowing with it. Kuro's outfit was heavy with water, which made it a little harder for him to move. Alas, as was the life of a shinobi. Rain or shine, a shinobi needed to complete the task at hand. They needed to be able to handle anything, including undesirable weather. Kuro glanced up at the black clouds above, observing the rain falling. Another boom shook the Earth, and a bolt of lightning stretched across the sky. Kuro only had one thing on his mind as he moved through the cool rain. This sure beats that blasted heat wave in Konoha.
Accompanied by his fellow colleague, Yamada, the two of them were on their way to complete a mission. The two of them had joked about it on the way to the Hokage's office. While they wanted to get out of the village for a while, and escape the heat, they certainly did not want to take on a high ranked mission. They joked about avoiding the hokage, and perhaps just sneaking into the office to take a mission of their own choosing. Unfortunately, they had been cuahgt in the act, and as a result, they were sent on an A-Rank mission. Of course, not before being chewed out by the Hokage herself.
Kuro turned his head slightly to look back as he dashed through the trees, heading straight for Takigakure. "This rain sure beats the heat, wouldn't you say?" He asked his partner, Yamada. "I hope this guy's idea of security is as sad as his personality, to be honest." Kuro was commenting on the mission at hand. There was a man that the two of them were supposed to kill. "I'll be choked if I have to break a sweat."

Considering the conditions, Kuro and Yamada were making good time. Yamada had a hood pulled up over his face and just the sheer amount of rain dripping from it made it difficult to see. He could tell that he wasn't the only one having difficulty though as they had both reduced their pace to compensate for the lack optics. This wasn't a big deal though as they had plenty of time to get to their target. In fact, since the mission hadn't made the request sound too urgent, he couldn't help but wonder if they'd still be paid if they let him die of old age. Unfortunately, this was never Yamada's luck.
His companion made a comment on the weather which brought a smile to Yamada's face. "You're right about that. I'll take this any day of the week. Unfortunately I've had people tell me that I'm useless in the rain." His grin widened as his mind briefly shot back to a mission with a couple of his ANBU colleagues in similar weather conditions. After only a moment this was interrupted by Mother Nature, who sent a massive bolt of lightning down not too far off from where they were. After only a second there was a loud resounding boom that blasted past them.
"I don't imagine we'll encounter too many obstacles. A Rank or not, we've both been at it long enough to handle even a handful of shinobi if we have to. So long as this guy doesn't have any big players on his roster, I'm sure we'll be fine." Still, an A-Rank mission in neutral territory to take down a non-shinobi was a little odd. Whoever placed the mission had to have known they'd be expecting some serious resistance. With this in mind he mentally prepared himself for a fight, even though they still had a day before they'd have to slow down. Hopefully this poor weather kept up. While it meant many of his jutsu were significantly less effective, it could give them a huge advantage if the opponents they encountered were inexperienced.
"Still, after how pissed the Hokage was, I doubt she'd send us on an easy one." Was the current Hokage the kind of person who'd vindictively send out shinobi on a difficult mission simply because she was angry with them? No. Or at least, that's the answer most of the other shinobi in the village would have given. As for Kuro and Yamada. Well, that remained to be seen. "We'd best keep our guard up. With my luck this guy is bound to have an army at his disposal." With that he went quiet again, focusing on the path ahead of him. Trying his hardest to not fall out of a tree with this poor visibility.
