Mayu Nagato i try to reach you, i almost feel you, and then you disappear
ALIAS / | GENDER Female | AGE Fifteen | ZODIAC Pisces | ORIENTATION pansexual | BLOOD TYPE O |
VILLAGE Kirigakure | RANK Genin | CHAKRA AFFINITY Suiton | PRIMARY STYLE Taijutsu | CHAKRA COLOUR White | KEKKEI GENKAI Ika no Gutaika [Cuttlefish's Embodiment] |
Mayu is not seen by a lot of people, but when she is, they'll see a mature young woman who seems almost ghostly. Straight ebony hair shines brightly when light is shined upon it, and reaches her back. Sideburns either fade into her hair or are very unnoticeable, and her bangs are cut in a straight line, almost like a princess. Her jaw is well-defined and triangular, and her ears are sharp in shape. Most of her face doesn't exactly have any outstanding traits such as moles, but small birthmarks can be seen behind her ears, the same shape as a squid or octopus's eye. The ninja's lips are an almost invisible, snake-like smile, and her nose is vertical in design. Her eyes are narrow, as if always poised to strike their pray in a split second, with orbs of a metallic pale vermilion, almost steel. The gold in her eyes only comes out either in the right lighting, or when her Kekkei Genkai deactivates. For the latter, it shines very brightly and looks luminescent in the dark.
Her non-influenced skin is very pale, but nothing too suspicious or revealing when put under a microscope. Normally, the Nagato does well in acting like she's an average civilian with an average spine her form, but she has a noticeable slouch in her truly relaxed stance, and sometimes drums her long, slim fingers on her legs. Mayu is 5' 5" and about 134 pounds, with a streamline build that focuses on her ability to slink around quickly rather than curves or muscles. The texture of her body is rather smooth as well, instead of the normal friction-gaining feeling that most people have. Of course, the texture and color of her skin could change in an instant.
A special pale magenta kimono is donned on the camouflage user, with a white sailor-type collar and a white bow at the front end of the collar. The kimono has a European influence in it's style, as it is buttoned up from the middle instead of fastened and wrapped like any other bow, as well as the fact that it ends at the waist as if it was a shirt. An equally-special maroon dress skirt reaches the floor, with various harvest-themed patterned on it. Mayu wears black Japanese sandals. Most of her weaponry is hidden in the huge sleeves of the button-up kimono, but she keeps a few pockets for scrolls and supplies in her large skirt. This get-up may seem unorthodox at first, but it only helps her disguise tactics. You never expect the little girl in the pink dress to silently assassinate you, do you?

Always keeping her distance, Mayu likes to be another face you see every day, an anonymous individual. She's rather good at not standing out in the crowd, just seeming like another civilian in the vicinity, what with her normal dress and her normal features and her normal form passing by. Much better to be unnoticed by the world than the center of attention, it just means more people will judge you or keep you under heavy watch. An introvert by nature, the Genin doesn't like reaching out to others and interacting with people on a deeply emotional basis, and prefers instead small talk that she can dash from or comfortable everyday conversations. The single lady loves ghosting around and hiding in plain sight, thriving off the fact she can pull a fast one over somebody by simply not being loud at all.
Unfortunately, this makes her not interact with people and therefore become a notch too self-reliant, bordering on stubborn, proud, apathetic, and paranoid. She doesn't exactly care for other people as much as she should, other than times that she suspects somebody of being an enemy or a danger to what she's doing. Mayu doesn't ask anybody for help even when she really needs it at that point, and takes reliance on others as shameful. Yes, her independence does work for her ability on the field to fly solo, as well as her ability to assign and cooperate with any competent teammates without bias or emotional attachment, but damn does it make her a really cynical human being.
On the field, she's a wonderful actor, and is able to switch around her mannerisms left and right to fit the type of person that people expect her to be. In addition to acting, the cuttlefish embodiment is a traitor and a backstabber, and her hands work very quickly to eliminate her targets with little to no trace of herself left behind. She develops a sense of professionalism when doing her job, and she does as ordered in a mechanical fashion. This 'no hard feelnigs' mindset is her way of coping with the fact she took another human's life. Though, when she flashes forwards to attack, revealing herself from her camouflage, Mayu does feel satisfaction from their face as she appears out of nowhere.
But shinobi are still human. As it is, Mayu is actually a decent person deep inside, and minds her manners more often than not. Sometimes, she gets depressed about how her life is so centered around her job, and how she doesn't have enough friends. Perhaps she's too judgmental, or too aloof? Mayu's nice, she swears, but she really just doesn't know how to go about interacting with others enough to prove it. She's either awkward or aggressive around others, and gets really lonely at times because of her lack of social interactions other than 'trick, stab, lie, hide, kill'. Recently, however, this loneliness has been somewhat cured by a certain Himawari Hirameku, if not in a most unorthodox fashion.
Too long, didn't read? She loves being sp00ky, and doesn't really talk to anyone. She's also really bad at asking for help and helping others. But despite those, she's a decent person who gets really lonely because of those personality traits. |
The mutated child of Jonin Miku Nagato and Chuunin Yuuki Nagato, her doctors consulted the parents about her possible malformation as soon as she was checked and scanned; it could be a kekkei genkai, or it could just be another birth defect. When the nature of the ability was actually revealed to the scientists and parents, they found it astounding and a great boon to anybody who could be a ninja. As a result, her parents would always play ninja games and hiding games with her, as well as teach her their personal philosophies of being a ninja.
Their teachings revolved around deception, stealth, and the importance of being a strong, independent ninja. Mayu, impressionable youth as she was, took these lessons as law and acted accordingly at school and around people she doesn't know. Every time, she would use her abilities to hide from others, never really to scare others or to have fun. They would always be baffled at where she was, with her pre-trained hiding skills being backed up by her inborn ability. The feeling of trickery was pretty good, so she kept doing it to people.
But she did this at the price of not understanding friendship and relationship-based compassion completely. Why bother making friends and talking to people, which means that you give hints to them? Why not just hide all day and make these strangers confused, then laugh at them? It really didn't make sense, why her classmates would invite her other classmates to their house to play, or why they would talk a lot. She plays all the time with people who are looking for her, and other people were more quiet than her, so she was perfectly normal!
Any joy of social attention was never permanently implemented on the young, black-haired girl, so she never tried to get it for herself. Sometimes she would just watch people get attention and have joy in that, or even mess around with people and make them interact with each other in an amusing fashion. What was the point of having an audience anyways, it's just means that there might be more people who know about her and might spoil the fun.
When Mayu was training to become a ninja in the academy, her parents explained to her that in the shinobi world, she had to kill people efficiently, and she had to be professional. The former fact didn't phase the girl, this was common knowledge. However, the latter fact made her think. Some of her classmates spoke of relatives who died because they were too attached, or too slow, or too reliant on their teammates. That type of death was at the bottom of her list of things that she wants, so she kept her distance and tried her best to be independent from too much interaction. Her game of hide and seek wasn't about confusing people for fun as much as staying out of sight and keeping to herself, where people can't see her.
The girl did well enough in class, and easily earned her right to be a Genin. A problem that arose was her team synergy. On her right was an overconfident, prideful boy, and on her left would be a loud girl who would bicker and fight with the boy all the time. To her favor, she was left in the background, staying silent. The two would wear at her patience, and the Nagato took this as living proof that she really shouldn't work with other people. While they debated on what to do every mission, Mayu would just get the task done as quickly as possible to go home as quickly as possible, gaining that apathy and efficiency that she has today. By the time she had her first kill, the ninja could care less about her moral problems, and completely would force her focus on her duty and efficiency. Teammates... useless! They'd never help.
With age, her skepticism, ability, and reconnaissance grew with training and experience. Now, she's a genin with skills in the stealth and assassination department and a lots of ghostliness to go around. But an efficient life and a professional life is never always a happy life, and, as Nagato grew in age, she also grew lonely and more self-conscious of her trickster actions. Yeah, she's doing well enough, but... but sometimes, isolation gets depressing.
In a recent development, however, her number of friends went from zero to one in the form of Himawari Hirameku. | ooc info
