The rain continued to pour since they arrived. His hair now soaked, had lost its fluff. He put his hair in a low ponytail to keep it out of his face. The mist shinobi stood in the wide open yard of Ryusaki Naruhiko's estate. The estate consisted of a large two story house that stood on flat even ground. Surrounding it, was a twelve foot tall wall made of cement that had a 50 square meter perimeter around the house. The vines that grew around it, let him know that the estate was here for a number of years. It would be a little tricky to guard the place due to it's wide open space Though, there were a few older trees that were randomly spread out across the property. This guy even had a lake filled with fish and other wildlife. This guy most have pulled some ridiculous methods to get all this, especially in Takigakure. No wonder this was high ranking mission. This guy must be richer than rich. The amount they were getting paid for this mission wasn't nearly enough for what this guy could actually pay. Devro's eyes became tense as he (and hopefully his comrades) followed a hired guard into the horse stables. As he moved to the stables, he looked back occasionally at his fellow comrades to keep a visual check on them. Entering the stables, a man approximately 40 years of age and standing at 5'8" had greeted them. The man didn't even acknowledge their presence. He just stood their brushing his horses. Devro did a slight cough to get the guys attention. "I know you're there mist shinobi. You can get started with your mission whenever you're ready," the man rudely stated. Ryusaki turned to them with a wicked grin. "Oh, well what do we have here. They sent me the Dragon. I feel all safe already. Well, I have fifteen guards on duty they are all surrounding the property. No guard on the perimeter is allowed to move within 25 meters of the house without a major threat while on guard. You can mingle with them or do what you want. I don't care. There are three wireless radios in the bag at the entrance of the stables. Make sure you do your job. Ta ta for now."Devro gave him a grim look and turned toward his comrades (hoping that they're there). The client walked out of the stables with an umbrella. Devro looked stressed more than anything. He rubbed his chin a bit before speaking. "Alright...from analyzing the property I suggest that one of you stay with Naruhiko. Since my chakra types cater to earth and fire, I wouldn't be a fit to stay inside the house.", he spoke while kneeling. He drew the property in the dirt of the stable with his finger. "I'll be taking Hoshino with me, since I'm pretty sure that his skills would be useless inside. Hirameku, you're going to guard the rich bastard. We're going to act like the guards don't exist. Worst case scenario they will become fodder. We are not here to protect them. If they get in your way or the way of an enemy, protect them or not is up to you. I would suggest that you worry about yourself and the sanctity of the mission. I could care less what happens to this guy, but we have to...represent the village. Good chances are that Naruhiko will get assassinated after we leave anyway. So, do what you see fit take cover and keep from being seen. Also, take a wireless radio just in case. Get prepared and be always on your guard. He stood up and stretched his neck. It could be hours or even days before a threat occurred. Though, they couldn't take any chances. There mission description was simple, but the execution of it was not. Devro knew that he could cover one side of the property alone, but he wasn't sure of Ienori's skills. There was no choice, but to trust both of his comrades' skills. He knew that it was either going to be him or Himawari guarding Naruhiko, but he wasn't the type of guy to sit around while others did all the work. The missions chances of success depended on many factors. He chose to be outside to increase the chances of taking down an enemy earlier. He knew that the opposition would be leaf shinobi, but that was it. Hell, it could be the leaf's renown ANBU they're going against. He doubted it, but you never know in these times. A grin emerged across his face as he nodded to his comrades. "Henge no Jutsu." (Transformation Technique) Upon using the technique, he transformed himself in one of the hired guards and moved his blade onto his hip. Upon taking a wireless radio, his now artificial plated armor and helmet took on the weight of the rain. The rain continued heavily and thunder shook his bones. It was time. His life and the life of his comrades were now on the line. He knew that he had to do everything in his power to make sure this mission didn't become a failure. |

-I gave you my word and i gave you my life- Ienori didn't mind being wet as much as he minded the fish swimming in the client's pond. Of all the things he had been expecting, it certainly hadn't been to meet his arch nemesis while away on such an important mission. Thankfully, the client's unpleasant attitude got his mind off that and onto more... serious problems. Nodding along with Devro's debriefing, Ienori sketched a short bow when the older jounin finally fell silent and began his preparations. "Right," the teen began a little stiffly, still in the process of composing himself and more than a little uncertain with chipping in his two cents. He didn't exactly want to be bossy when he wasn't even in charge. "If I may, with the house as the focal point, we should create three layers of barriers: wood, water, and I think Yukimura-san might have another that could go outside both of these?" Hopefully the client wouldn't kill himself by trying to get past his own elemental shields. Ienori honestly wouldn't put it past the client to disregard their protective jutsu and run headlong into trouble. Grabbing his own radio set, Ienori pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed before his hands flashed through a set of symbols and a few wood clones detached themselves from his body. He would station one with Himawari just in case something went wrong with the radios. The rest would be out in the forest with him. “Whoops, my bad,” she said loudly as she pressed down on the man’s carotid artery. From the corner of her eye, she could spot the wood clone smack its face with its palm. Sick of dodging the client’s flailing arms, Himawari twisted them behind his back and counted down the seconds with a sarcastic smile. “You know, this would have been a lot easier if you complied the first time ~ don’t worry, you’ll wake up later.”He shot her a furious look before his eyes rolled to the back of his head, slumping over as he succumbed to unconsciousness. “Or maybe not, but you’ll be dead in that scenario so you probably won’t notice anyway,” Himawari added as an afterthought, heaving the man under her arm. Flashing her partner’s clone a smile, she then tossed the body to its unsuspecting arms. “Yo, I know you guys are probably doing a lot of fancy stuff outside already, but you can bury him right? Not too far away, I mean, just outta the splash zone—ooh, how about right there? Nah, a little more to the left...”Himawari tilted her head to the left with an entertained laugh, dodging whatever stray item the clone decided to hurl her way to cease her babbling. “Even as a clone you’re rude,” she mused, lifting a hand to form Ram. The cloud that accompanied the Transformation Jutsu disappated quickly, leaving a perfect copy of Ryusaki Naruhiko in its place. Settling her chakra to a more discreet civilian level, Himawari wiggled her fingers in an impromptu wave and winked at the clone in all her newlyfound scummy forty-something year old glory. Perhaps it’d cause her teammate to develop another phobia. “Maybe some of you guys should have pretended to be trees, ya know. I think it’d be cute to have a demon tree try to kill you when you’re strolling about.”Pulling back the chair of the desk, Himawari scanned the entirety of office, almost impressed at the decorating. It was a shame it’d probably be in shambles by the end of the mission. Running a hand over the paperwork left behind—she recognised some of the names, too, birds of a feather really did flock together—the shinobi sat down, hunching her back to mimic Ryusaki’s posture. Glancing at the stationed clone, composed after finishing its task, Himawari grabbed a fountain pen and began to write a series of possible nicknames for the squad in an attempt to busy herself, portable radio sat conveniently on the desk. “You know, I’ve always wanted to be a rich, old man. Dreams really do come true if you wish hard enough.” MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

They had a relatively good vantage point where they'd set up. On a short scouting mission when they'd first arrived Yamada had learned that they had stationed approximately fifteen to twenty guards around the grounds surrounding Naruhiko's manor. This played well into their hands, assuming they were unskilled mercenaries. The confusion that would undoubtedly occur after watching a handful of their comrades get slaughtered would provide them with plenty of opportunities to locate and eliminate the target. Unfortunately for them, there was a pretty good chance this guy had paid more than just mercenaries to show up. Mixed in with the sheep would be wolves. Shinobi that were likely getting paid way more money to protect this scumbag than Yamada and Kuro were getting paid to kill him.
Now was the time to make preparations though. The rain had been unrelenting since they'd left the Land of Fire. While this was bad news for Yamada in a prolonged fight, it did mean they'd have an advantage against anyone trying to defend the manor in the low visibility. They'd agreed on the way to their destination that a night raid would be in their best interest. Timing it properly, they'd managed to arrive only a few short hours before the night would be at its darkest. Coupled with the cloud cover and the powerful downpour, they were presented with nearly perfect infiltration conditions. Unfortunately for them both Kuro and Yamada were out of practice and something about the atmosphere just didn't seem right.
Now that they were settled in a comfortable hiding spot it was time to decide on a plan of attack. Yamada was the first to speak, leaning in close to Kuro so that he could keep his voice low.
"On my initial review of the area I counted twelve guards. We can assume that there are probably two additional guards set up at the entrance to the property, two set up at the entrance to the manor and possibly an additional one or two on standby or in barracks. I think we should also consider the possibility that there are two or three inside the manor. Judging by the size of the property it is also likely that our target has the money to pay for some proper protection as well. I think we should plan for a full team of four shinobi." Yamada took a quick breather to contemplate what his plan would be if he were defending this guy before continuing.
"If it were me planning Naruhiko's defensive operation I would station one or two shinobi somewhere on the grounds among the regular guards to intercept any incoming threats. We should also expect that Naruhiko himself is going to keep two of his best guards close. Possibly more if he caught word that shinobi were coming for him. I think we should expect to encounter the most severe resistance once we've successfully infiltrated the manor."
"We both know that in these weather conditions I will not fare well in a prolonged engagement with other shinobi unless I can get indoors; And my fighting style doesn't exactly lend itself to discretion so I would like to avoid a direct confrontation if at all possible. With our luck though we are bound to find something. In that situation I recommend that I take the heat from as many of the shinobi as possible while you focus on the target and his bodyguards. While I won't last long with this rain, I should still be able to hold off at least two or three of them with my more powerful techniques. Push come to shove, I can even make it stop raining for a small window. I'd like to avoid that at this stage because the rain is acting as one of our few advantages right now."
Yamada stopped briefly to take one last look at the manor through the trees before he offered up the plan he'd devised while on his scouting mission. It was true that there was a very simple way of taking care of their target. It was a tactic that Yamada was very proficient at but they had been requested to confirm their kill, and that made his Fireworks plan less viable. He shook the thought out of his head and once again locked eyes with Kuro.
"I think we should both approach the manor at the same time. In the first scenario, we don't encounter any resistance. I will infiltrate the manor alone and light the entire building on fire, prompting our target and all those hiding inside the house to evacuate. At this point we can deal with any bodyguards that he has hired and put him down before he can flee. While I'm infiltrating I'll need you to sneak into the stables and put down any guards and horses that are located inside. With how secluded this area is, even if our target runs off on his own it won't take much for one of us to catch up to him and kill him. Even if we're held up or killed, he's likely to die in the forest while he runs for his life."
"In the second scenario, we deem it impossible to infiltrate the manor because of some form of resistance. Probably more than one or two skilled shinobi patrolling the compound. We'll have a better idea if this is the case once we get close. In this situation I will act as a distraction. I'll attack the enemy while appearing to push towards the front of the manor. This should have them believing that my goal is to personally reach the building and kill Naruhiko so their attention should be primarily focused on holding me back without arousing suspicion that I'm acting as a decoy. While I fight you'll need to break into the manor and either eliminate our target or flush him out into the open. Once we're at this stage the plan is pretty much the same."
Taking a deep breath, he leaned back a little bit where he was sitting. The plan wasn't perfect. In fact, it was really amatuer and he knew this. But they were working with half the size of the team he was used to with significantly less intel than he would normally consider sufficient. He lived his life by expecting the worst outcome though and luckily this meant there were very few surprises. Surprised or not, it felt as though the odds weren't in their favour tonight at all. In his opinion they couldn't wait much longer before making their move, as it was likely before taking action that they would be discovered. Yamada waited for Kuro to respond back with his thoughts. Once they were settled on a course of action, they could move in and begin their operation.

swallowed by the past | What a day this was. It had been raining since they had left Konohagakure. A non-stop pour of rain. They had been traveling for days now, and had finally reached their destination. The rain was beginning to get a little old at this point, though. It made it difficult to see too far ahead, and in some circumstances, rendered Yamada useless in combat. Fire and water did not mix well. Not well at all. However, water and lightning? Those went together very well. Kuro couldn't help but feel some confidence in this fact. The view was quite nice from the vantage point they had set up. The rain may have been coming down quite hard, but they could still examine the area of operation. To top it off, night time had arrived, and the cloud cover had shielded the Earth's surface from most of the moonlight. In addition, the rain would make it relatively hard for anybody to see the two Konohagakure shinobi coming. For infiltration, the conditions couldn't be much better. As the two of them overlooked the Manor and it's grounds, examining the placement of the guards, and anticipating possible positions of reinforcements, Yamada leaned in and began to speak his plan. Kuro listened carefully. As Yamada spoke about his plan, Kuro nodded continuously, confirming his understanding. "Alright." Kuro responded as soon as Yamada was finished speaking. "You want to infiltrate the manor while I head for the stables. Correct? Let's rush the manor together, then. We'll head in, killing any guard that stands in the way. They're just going to be a nuisance later on. Once we reach the manor, we'll immediately split off. I'll head for the stables, you head inside the manor and burn it to the ground. Once I have put down any horses and guards nearby or inside of the stables, I'll come back, break into the manor, and search for Naruhiko. I'll put him down as well, and then we get the hell out of here."It wasn't the most graceful, or well thought out plans, that's for sure. But it definitely suited their talents far better than sneaking around in the shadows. Kuro reached in behind him with his right hand, grasping the scroll attached to his hip. He pulled the scroll out, opening it. A small puff of smoke shrouded him, and when it disappeared, he stood there holding his Scythe, Gekimetsu. It had been a while since he held this pure black weapon in his hands. To Kuro, it was almost like being reunited with a friend he hadn't seen for a years. A good friend at that. Holding that blade once again gave him a little bit of joy. A joy that could not normally be found in an otherwise dark, and sad soul. Kuro took a deep breath in, and then glanced at Yamada. He nodded his head. "Let's go."Kuro dropped from the tree that sat atop a small hill just outside of the property. Straight ahead was the main gate, guarded by two of Naruhiko's personal guards. Once Kuro hit the ground, he made a quick dash straight for the gate. Right beside him, to his left, was his partner, Yamada. Kuro move straight for the guard on the right, assuming that Yamada would take the one on the left. Before the guard could even see what was happening, Kuro had pulled his scythe back, and swung it horizontally at the guard. The guard collapsed after the large incision was made across his chest, and blood spattered across the large wall. Kuro focused chakra into the bottoms of his feet allowing him to latch to the wall, and run up it. He reached the top, and the body of the guard had finally his the ground, blood pouring from his wound. Leaping down from the wall, both of the Konoha shinobi had infiltrated the property. Wasting no time, Kuro dashed straight for the Manor, alongside Yamada. Two more guards stood in their way. This time, they had actually noticed the two shinobi, and rushed forward to slay them before they could reach the Manor. The one on the right removed a sword from the sheath hanging from his hip. The guard swung and Kuro, hoping to connect. Kuro jumped up, and the sword traveled horizontally, just beneath Kuro's feet, missing. Kuro moved his feet in front of him, double kicking the guard square in the face. The guard's sword left his hands as his body had been tossed back. His body went completely limp as he tumbled about the ground. If he wasn't dead from a broken neck, he was certainly out cold. This was where the two partners split up. The Manor was directly in front of them, so Kuro dashed to the right, heading straight for the stables as fast as he could. At this point, the guards had to know that something was happening. The rain on his face was soothing, but very annoying at the same time. His hands slightly pruned from the excess of water that kept coming down from the sky. He had been walking the perimeter of the estate with one of the guards. They had barely said a word to each other and the silence was respected. The only words that were spoken were to three or four of the other guards via the communication devices that were spread out. Devro knew that the rain was risk for them. The darkness of the sky covered the moon and made visibility low altogether. There wasn't much to do, but march around and wait. He hated that none of them specialized in setting traps which would have made this mission a tad bit easier. The guarantee that the traps would work was a probability. A probability that was nonexistent in there current setting.
The waiting was almost unbearable to the extent that he was tempted to take Naruhiko out himself. His team would probably have to deal with the rain heading all the way back to Kirigakure. He would occasionally considered the variables of this mission. Sometimes even wondering if he should have just stayed hidden on the roof top or something. This mission would have been a bit easier if he just went ahead and developed a clone technique with his Yoton, but it was no point in beating himself over the head for now. The mission had already been going on for the past few hours. During the time he walked, it gave him a lot of time to clear his head. It also gave him a bit of time to cool down. He was very irked about having to travel all the out here on a protection mission. It could be seen in his face and attitude. Naruhiko's life wasn't worth him or his comrades. Takigakure would probably be in a better state without him. Though usually when it comes to these dark shady guys, one falls and another takes their place.
The guard next to had been doing constant checks on the other patrols. This round of of checks seemed to be unusual. "B3 this A1. What's your status?" the guard said while giving a quick glance at Devro. There was nothing. Utter silence had befallen the return of B3's status. The guard then quickly checked on another unit that was closer toward the gate. His slightly raspy voice on the comm, "C2, status report." Silence yet again had returned to respond. The guard quickly checked on another lone guard and got a response. The guard by the lake had been fine, but hadn't heard from the guards stationed near the wall. "Sir shinobi?" he quickly broke his silence between him and Devro, "The wall unit hasn't responded and the unit stationed near them is also silent."
Upon hearing that, Devro quickly started speaking into the wireless radio to his comrades. "We have an intrusion be on high alert. I'm currently a few meters off from the stables, so I'm heading toward the manor." He began running toward the stables as fast as he could. He ended his transformation technique and decided that it was now pointless. The rain would make his fire ninjutsu a pain, but that wouldn't stop him from trying to use any technique that he could. He was secretly excited that he about being able to fight another shinobi. Though, he hated the reason for him actually fighting. Their opponent's timing was planned out decently enough. Though, it seemed a bit amateurish, but so did Devro's plan. His plan was the best he could come up with for the time being, but maybe he was a bit rusty when it came to planning.
He started to come in proximity to the stables and lightning pierced the sky, which brought a heavy boom of thunder. That's when he saw it an image of another shinobi. This was too close to comfort. The only thing he could tell was that the enemy was heading toward the general direction he was. He also knew that if he could see his opponent that his opponent should have also seen him. Forming a few hand seals, he stopped in his tracks and slammed his hands down into the we ground.Doton: Doryūkatsu [Earth Release: Earth Flow Divide] The earth then started to shape to his will. It started to elevate itself causing a chasm to cause a deep separation between the manor and the two opposing shinobi. In doing this technique, he manipulated the earth causing another distortion in elevation to destroy most of the stable. By doing this, he hoped to seal off that particular entrance . He could care less about the horse that was inside. If they survived this mission, he knew that a long report was coming and possibly a hounding from Lord Mizukage.
He wasn't sure where his opponent was, but he wasn't going to stand there looking dumb. Separating himself and the opponent from the manor was no guarantee, that his plan would work. Though, it would be nice if he had some backup. He quickly formed another set of hand seals and spewed out a few fireballs from his mouth. Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu [Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique] The bright flame went forth in front of him. The rain would make this technique less effective, but there was no harm in trying. He was mainly trying to light up the area.

-I gave you my word and i gave you my life- There was little to no response to Ienori's attempt at group strategy, but then, everybody was already up and moving, bustling to their own places and trying to keep busy. ...So much for teamwork and communication. Well, at the very least they all had radios. Deciding to just go along with what he had planned, Ienori himself exited the stables and dashed to the top of the client's house. He was immediately soaked. It seemed the rain was falling harder, and though Ienori would appreciate the precipitation on any normal day, today, it seemed dead set on being a hindrance on this one. Shaking his wet hair out of his face, Ienori grabbed a few bobby pins from out of hip pouch and pinned his fringe out of his face. Then he reached back and pulled his hair into a braid to keep it neat, cold fingers still deft enough to weave a spiked strap into it. Anyone who tried to grab his hair in a fight was going to be in for an unpleasant surprise. Still, sometimes, long hair could be such a pain... Straightening once more, Ienori sighed and got to work. There was a reason he'd shunshin-ed all the way up there. Two more wood clones and twin blurs of tiger-snake-rat-snake-tiger later, Ienori had a large, functioning water wall via suijinheki that encircled all of the manor. It was with some vindictive satisfaction that Ienori made sure the clones maintaining the wall drained the pond of its water first before using the surrounding rain and his own chakra. Take that, finnies! Leaving the wood clones up on the roof to keep the walls going, Ienori shunshin-ed down and burrowed into the ground, not before watching the earth destroy the stables– Geez, what if he had still been in there!? The teamwork was so strong on this mission. And then there was the fact he had to ignore clone one relaying all of Himawari's antics to him. Was she.... flirting? With his clone? As a forty-something year old man? If he made it home, Nori was heading for the nearest bar in the village to drink away his woes. This was too much, she was really– And how was a clone getting more than its creator was!? Right right, mission first, personal issues later. Maybe. Wood clones weren't just good for reconnaissance and guerrilla warfare, after all. "Hoshino Ienori reporting," The mokuton user muttered into his radio earpiece, trying to keep some level of professionalism even as what he understood of the situation fell into pieces. "Joining Yukimura-san at the manor from underground. Ahowari, be ready." That was about all Ienori was saying about such a personal matter over the radio. At the same time... Somewhere in the manor, the clone accompanying Himawari opened its mouth and spoke. "My creator would like to inform you that he's jea– I mean... That he does not appreciate what you're doing to his clone in Naruhiko-san's body and would like you to stop immediately." There was a pause as the clone received more information from its original body. Though Ienori was focusing less chakra on it as there was no immediate danger, wood clones still could receive and transfer information as a basic part of their functionality. "Also, on behalf of my creator's unspoken sentiments, please stay safe."And that was all. Back to Ienori though. Still underground, the numerous corpses he was sensing above ground was making him uneasy. If he followed that trail... He was getting close. Burrowing faster, the teen raced to intercept the attackers approaching the manor. No one was getting in if he could help it, and not just for Naruhiko's sake. The question was whether or not he had made it in time. If one of the Konohanin crossed paths with Ienori while the latter was underground, Ienori would jump out and attack, his trusty katana, Hakuren, unsheathed and in hand. If not, he would continue towards the manor and hide himself near the entrance in the hopes that everything he had done would prove to hinder the attackers. If only he made it on time... insipid but still charming the hair off of our tongues

“Maybe we should just give him up,” Himawari hummed, sifting through the drawers for old schematics, interest initially piqued by a decorated jewelry box sat on the desk. Necklaces of thick silvers and golds swung from her neck as she continued to pry around the office with an odd satisfaction, nearly tipping over the small bookcase set against the wall in her search for secret compartments. “They only want his life, I mean, we can just take back the rest of this stuff. Wouldn’t that be a better deal?”Raising an eyebrow in satisfaction, Himawari pulled out a worn and torn, dark blue piece of paper, unfolding it to reveal an older layout of the property Ryusaki owned. Though called Takigakure, Himawari had found herself heavily disappointed at the fact that she hadn’t seen a single flowing waterfall around—though that was partly due to the rushed journey over and most likely due to the after effects of the war. She’d seen plenty of mother nature’s beauty leveled down by jutsu through her other escapades through the area. “See, see? It’s dated after the war, so it should be around,” she said excitedly to the clone. “We should go visit it later, I wanna know if they’re any different than Kirigakure’s. Indulge me, okay?”It wasn’t too far off, less than a kilometer away. Perhaps over the treeline where the storm was headed. Oh, how joyous—maybe the gods were taking pity on her for the initial trek over. Rolling a stray coin across her knuckles, Himawari rested her feet on top of the desk, satisfied with her hunt. Hours have passed since they’ve taken post and there hadn’t been any activity thus far and though she wasn’t naive enough to believe that perhaps nothing would happen, she still hoped. Their team leader’s forewarning filled the silence, delivered by the wireless radio and effectively crushing any daydreams of a smooth mission. With an exasperated glance at the stormy night sky beyond the curtained windows, Himawari sighed. “Weather’s uglier than my stepmother,” she groaned, “sounds like this confrontation will be, too. Well, at least I’m beautiful in all my wrinkling glory.”She counted the seconds between the flashes of lightning and the rumbling thunder, comforted at its closing proximity. At the sound of her more familiar teammate’s radio-distorted voice, Himawari set her head against the desk and closed her eyes, taking careful note of the shifts in the air and the small quake that usually accompanied with the permutation of earth. Even from the office, she could hear the demolition of a building and a sad neigh. Had someone... blown up the stables? Feeling personally offended for an inexplicable reason, Himawari huffed. However, even that souring fact couldn’t stop the small laugh that escaped her mouth, foreign and gruff, at the awkward message of caution relayed by the clone. “Hm, shouldn’t that be my line?” she questioned, lifting her head, finally able to silence the instinct of rushing out to aid her team. Regardless of uncomfortable it made her, she would hold her post, well aware of a possible second wave or breach into the manor. The coin rolled down and back up her fingers, quelling her anxiety, wholly unused to be the one playing the waiting game. “With any luck, they might be afraid of the fish wall. I know I would be.” MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS
