Before you sign up for a mission or try to create your own please make sure to read through this entire post as it goes through all of the rules and guidelines
There are a variety of different ways you can take or create missions so we will go over that information first. Both the staff and regular members can create missions. As a member you can create missions specifically for your character or you can design challenges for other players to take on. Staff made missions will usually be more structured and yield better rewards but creating your own missions will allow you to role-play whenever/whatever you want and can help to specifically develop your character if you wish. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the guidelines for creating your own missions before posting any up. It’s not as simple as filling out our template below.
Occasionally there will also be Event and Plot based missions. These will not always follow the same guidelines listed below but all information will be available in each respective mission thread. These missions will also usually pay out better and offer unique rewards that are not available from standard missions.
With the explanation of each out of the way, let’s go into how each different type of mission will work.
For staff-made missions, any qualified shinobi can take these on assuming it is reasonable for them to do so. To undertake a mission you must post in the mission thread. If you do not meet the qualifications you can augment your chances of success by taking on a mission with your squad or another shinobi from your village. In this case where you apply for a mission that is outside of your current rank you must wait for approval from staff before starting it. It is also possible for other role players to apply as antagonists during some missions. These details will usually be worked out between the actual role players and staff intervention will only occur when necessary.
Here is a breakdown of the different mission ranks and what they typically entail:
D: Simple missions usually involving basic public service. Little to no danger to the shinobi working on it. These commonly include menial tasks and are used by villages to train new shinobi on the basics.
C: Tasks that present a small amount of danger. These tasks are easy to complete, even for new shinobi but the risk of a physical encounter is higher. Rarely involves enemy shinobi though other dangers such as bandits or soldiers are present. These are usually the first introduction to real shinobi work.
B: The chance of encountering enemy shinobi is high but generally speaking their rank or skill level will not be more than slightly above average. Possible risk of death to the shinobi working on it. It is only recommended that these missions be taken on by those confident in their real world combat ability.
A: Difficult missions that will almost always involve contact with enemy shinobi of up to Jounin rank or skill level. Risk of death is high, even for regular Jounin. New shinobi are not sent on these kinds of missions, even in squads.
S: The chance of death or serious injury is likely and because of this only the best are sent on these kinds of missions. This kind of work can include assassinations of high profile targets, collecting information from within an enemy’s village or even helping to lay siege to a heavily guarded location.
SS: Even the best of the best are reluctant to take these missions. Probability of death or serious injury is exceedingly high, even for the most skilled shinobi. This rank is extraordinarily rare and often reserved for event/plot missions.
While the payout for each mission will differ depending on the objectives, the following is what you can generally expect from both staff-made and user created missions:
D: 100-200 Ryo
C: 400-800 Ryo
B: 800-1500 Ryo
A: 2000-5000 Ryo
S: 5000+ Ryo
SS: SS Rank missions will have their own specific rewards and the amount of ryo awarded will vary depending on what the objectives were, how many people participated, what the other rewards are, as well as several other factors. Because of this, ryo payout for SS-Rank mission might be less than other high ranked missions if the other rewards make up for it.
Keep in mind that these prices are just baselines to give you an idea of what to expect and not indicative of the actual payout for every mission in that rank. It is also possible for a staff member to modify your final payout based on performance (both the effort put into the post as well as IC performance). B-Rank missions and up will also sometimes have bonus rewards as well as conditions for failure. These will almost always only be available on missions that include player controlled enemy shinobi, whether that be by staff or another player’s character.
Now if you are completing a mission as part of a team there is little else you need to know regarding missions. There is no word count or minimum standard of quality (outside of what is generally expected of our members) when it comes to completing these missions. It can take as many posts as you want (or as few, so long as everyone involved has at least one opportunity to post). The payout for each person on a team will always be equal, except in the case of Plot and Event missions.
If you are looking to take on a mission solo there are a couple of other things that you need to be aware of. First off, taking on higher ranked missions alone will seriously increase the chances of you failing the mission or getting seriously injured/killed. You can expect staff and regular member intervention, especially when embarking on solo A-Rank+ missions. Second, mission payout will be less than team missions. By how much will depend on what the mission has you do as well as the quality of the solo post. Because it takes a role player much less time to complete a solo mission than it does for a team to complete one, this is meant to balance the two out. You will also be judged more harshly on your posts. We expect you to hit a certain minimum word count when role playing solo. Here is the list of minimum word counts for each rank:
D: 600 Words
C: 800 Words
B: 1000 Words
A: 1200 Words
S: 1400 Words
SS: 2000 Words
The final caveat for solo missions is that your mission thread needs to be broken up into at least two posts, spaced 12 hours (in real life time) apart. Do your best to split them up so that your first post leads you up to your mission objectives and your second post completes the mission. This 12 hour time period gives staff or other players an opportunity to interject if they choose to. And yes, the above word count is the total number of words between both posts. So for a D-Rank mission it is ok to have a 300 word first post and a 300 word second post. This equals the 600 word minimum so you’ll be entitled to your reward, assuming you completed the mission.
Note: You can take on more than one mission at a time (even solo missions).
The final note regarding missions before we present the template is this: If a post has not been made in a mission thread within a reasonable timeframe the staff will consider this mission failed. If this was because of a single member going inactive then all other participants will either be given the opportunity to press on without that player or can choose to receive a fraction of the original payout for the work they had put in up until that point. What constitutes an unreasonable amount of time? That'll depend on various factors including whether or not the inactive parties notified the site that they would be inactive, if those people participating in the mission are roleplaying elsewhere on the forum, and several other potential circumstances. Ultimately, this decision will be left up to the staff team.
Here is the template and a brief description of what we are looking for in each field:
Mission Name: What is the name of the mission? Feel free to be creative.
Mission Rank: Using the rank descriptions above as a guide, what would this mission classify as?
Issuing Agency: In addition to your village leader issuing missions, it is also now possible to take on missions from your country, clan, organization, or private citizen. Use the village name for normal missions (ie. Kaigangakure), or the name of the clan/organization/country/person for these other kinds of missions.
Suggested Shinobi: Suggested minimum rank (this refers to skill level, so genin would refer to a new shinobi, regardless of the IC rank), number of participants, or the suggested team configuration.
Location: Where does the mission take place (what area of the site, or if multiple boards are necessary, what country)?
OOC Information: Provide the OOC details of the mission here. The shinobi will not know this information IC. Describe what is supposed to happen on the mission and where you’d like to see it go.
Mission Description: Provide an IC mission description. This information will be what is available to the shinobi taking the mission.
Objective: What is the desired outcome of the mission?
Payout: Leave Blank for Reviewer.
Additional Rewards: Generally you will leave this blank for the reviewer. However if you would like to earn a weapon/item/jutsu by completing the mission, you can include a link to the application here. This will be approved or denied by the staff reviewing your mission.
