appearance

The first thing a person probably notices about Ryoko is that he looks very young for his age. This is always highlighted because of his status as a Kage from one of the Five Great Shinobi Villages. Both of his eyes are green and he has silver hair. His hair comes down to the nape of his neck and his bangs come down in front of his eyes. The most notable feature on his face though is a red design that comes up under his left eye and reaches across his nose to the right side of his face. To most people it looks like a simple tattoo.

As for his body, he has a slight build and only stands at about 5'6". His skin is pale, despite how much sun he actually gets in Konoha. He does not have a menacing figure. In fact most would say it is quite the opposite. Thanks to his lack of physical stature, he had a hard time convincing everyone in the village that he deserved to be Hokage.

He does not have many permanent markings on his body. He has managed to avoid getting any permanent scars and he has no piercings. He also has no tattoos, though most people think that he does because of the unusual marking on his face. Despite the appearance of it being a tattoo, in reality it is a curse seal. When activated his left eye turns the same colour red as the mark, though no other noticeable changes to his appearance occur.

personality

Ryoko is a short fused person with a seemingly uncaring exterior. These traits make him undesirable as Hokage and because of this there was some resistance when he was chosen to succeed the Fourth. Despite this though, he does care about the village and it's people. It is just beyond his own ability to show this except in times of great distress. His emotional range is short and even if he knows that he should feel a certain way in any given situation, he just doesn't.

While he doesn't have a wide range of expression, he has been known to be short tempered, as mentioned above and easily frustrated when things aren't going his way. This coupled with his youthful appearance makes for quite the comical sight to his closer friends and was the source of much teasing before he became the Hokage.

In battle he is cool and collected most of the time; his emotionless nature obviously increasing his ability to keep his head. When in the midst of a fight he is known to not be the most calculating individual and instead likes to rely on his powerful jutsu and strength to win fights. This isn't to say he can't form a strategy, but it definitely is not his strongest talent. His personal belief is that the best defense is to completely obliterate the threat.

Since there are many who refuse to accept him as a fit leader he does his best to tune his personality in public to one of a more caring, interesting figure though this only goes so far. He finds it very taxing to pretend to be this person, and one of the few things he enjoys is spending time with close friends and allies because he can turn the facade off. When giving orders he is stern and brief and while this would be considered a respected trait in someone who had more experience, it tends to annoy his subordinates because of his lack thereof.

Ryoko is a fan of food in general and if you were to base his weight off of how much he eats, he would probably weigh four times as much as he does now. He likes the company of his friends and will even goof off with them if he is given the opportunity. As for dislikes, Ryoko hates more than anything that others look down on him simply based on his connection to the Yondaime Hokage. So much so that he has actually become visibly upset when confronted about it before. He tries harder now to keep his game face on now that he has an image to uphold though.

One more interesting thing about Ryoko is that he tends to develop very awkward relationships with women. He is insensitive to the trials faced by the opposite gender and has never properly learned to express feelings for them, should he discover he has any. This has led to more than one uncomfortable conversation and it's a skill that he truly just can't seem to get better at.

biography

Ryoko comes from a family of merchants. Both of his parents come from the Land of Fire, with his mother actually living in Konoha at one point. Despite this it was apparent to them at a young age that he had the raw talent necessary to become a talented shinobi. Not wanting to deprive him of this somewhat more prestigious lifestyle, they talked with the then Fourth Hokage about having him taken into the shinobi academy when he was old enough. Because of the war less than three decades earlier he was inclined to accommodate this request as they were still trying to bolster their numbers.

The Hokage at the time decided to take him into his home and before Ryoko even had an opportunity to sign up for the academy he was forced to train. Some of the training was shinobi related, but most of it pertained to discipline and housework. Even at such a young age he was taught respect and kindness, and while all of these traits do not always show through now, he has the Fourth to thank for it.

Upon joining the Academy he was looked down on as a "teacher's pet" because he was living with the Hokage. The instructors would tip toe around scolding him when he didn't perfectly complete a technique and his classmates refused to work with him or include him in any outside of school shenanigans. Ryoko quickly withdrew and began to resent his fellow students and his teachers. It was not like he'd gone in there demanding respect, but they wouldn't even give him an opportunity to earn it. Over the years he became more and more resentful, while keeping up a calm and collected exterior.

When he graduated and finally joined the ranks of the shinobi, he was assigned to a squad of other misfits. The three of them were considered the only ones that wouldn't work properly with anyone else, so they were left together to avoid weakening more than one team. It turned out though that this was exactly what they needed. After the first few missions they started to grow on each other and over the course of their time as a team became best friends. They relied on each other for more than just ninja missions and this was when Ryoko really started to come out of his shell.

Unfortunately life was a bit of a roller coaster for him and when he got promoted to jounin things went straight back downhill. He may have earned the respect of his fellow genin because of his spectacular mission clear rate but he hadn't been given much of a chance to prove to the jounin what he could do. His time as a chuunin was incredibly short and only finished two missions before being promoted. This lack of experience caused many of his colleagues to immediately dislike him because of his connection with the Hokage, whom he was still incredibly close with.

Many of the jounin expressed these concerns with the Hokage himself and in an effort to avoid any conflict in the field he decided to take Ryoko as a personal body guard. This made things worse for Ryoko though, because of the prestige associated with that particular position. It seemed as though there was no winning for him, and he had nothing but his closest friends and his mentor to get him through the days.

On his twentieth birthday the Hokage decided to retire. Approaching 70 years old, he was concerned that if they were invaded he would be unable to properly defend his people. When he made this information public he also named Ryoko as his successor, despite the uproar he knew it would cause. He believed that this would be the best course of action for the village and he knew that Ryoko was an incredibly powerful young man. It was his hope that finally everyone could see Ryoko the way he had. He had long considered him his son and perhaps this clouded his judgement a little when making this decision.

Now, a year later and some are still questioning the decision to place Ryoko in command of the village. He does his best to make public appearances often and even elects to take missions when given an opportunity to leave his office. The opposition to his leadership has mostly faded but there are still those within the jounin ranks that would love nothing more than to see him gone.
