Description: This jutsu allows Ryoko to release the curse seal placed on the left side of his face. In doing so, it releases all of the emotions and chakra that are repressed by the curse seal. The seal itself will have a slight glow when this is performed however the most notable physical change is that his left eye becomes red.
Additional Information: During one of his first missions as a jounin Ryoko and several of his comrades fell into a trap. While the details are sketchy at best, what is known is that the rest of his team used the confusion to escape and left Ryoko there as bait in an effort to save themselves. When they returned to Konoha they reported the attack, which had been carried out by a group of shinobi from an unknown village. They also informed the Hokage that Ryoko had been killed in the confrontation. They knew this to be a lie but believed that there was no way for Ryoko to escape and did not want the Hokage sending aid to bring him back, as the individuals in question did not like Ryoko.
Several days later, Getsu, Ryoko's shinobi wolf, returned to the village with severe wounds. After recovering for a few days he led a team of jounin rank shinobi and the Fourth Hokage to where Ryoko's body had been discarded. He was barely alive at this time and it took him several weeks to wake up and many more before he was up and moving again. As far as they could tell though he would make a perfect recovery. The only thing that his captors had left him with was an unusual curse seal on his face. It was red in colour and not even the ANBU had seen the technique before. Once he was healthy enough he was thoroughly interrogated (against the wishes of the Hokage) to make sure that he hadn't been turned and many tests were run to make sure that the curse seal wasn't left on him to somehow cause damage to the village.
When they were convinced that he wasn't a threat, he began to work on a way to unlock the seal, in an effort to determine what had been done to him in the first place. Finally, he managed to devise a jutsu that could do just that. What he discovered was that the seal had been put in place to trap latent emotions as well as slowly absorb his chakra. Naturally upon it's release, his emotions flooded out and with his boost in chakra he almost destroyed his entire house. Luckily, since he was under supervision of the ANBU he was contained and the curse seal was reestablished. He dubbed the technique used on him to be the Soul Seal, and his technique was the release.
This technique allows him to tap into massive chakra reserves but he runs the risk of losing control if the emotions that the Soul Seal bottles up are strong enough. This seal is believed to be the reason that he has become so detached emotionally since starting his work as a jounin.
To this day it is unclear who he was attacked by and why the curse seal was placed on him in the first place.
