Looking at her, most wouldn't believe for a second that she is a shinobi, let alone a Genin. Given her slim stature, its a wonder she even passed out of the Academy. She isn't very tall, barely reaching five feet, four inches weighing at a mere ninety some pounds. Asuka is also not the strongest or the fastest, her muscle mass ordinary though considered appropriate for the amount of hand-to-hand combat she dabbles in. So what does she even have going for? Well, not much.
Her hair is always kept short just above her shoulders mostly due to her father's insistence so it won't interfere with her training. In her hair, she bares two snowflake pins that keep loose strands from dangling into her eyes. They were given to her by her mother upon her graduation from the Academy. A 'reminder' that the impossible is possible. Those two little hairpins set her determination every time she looks in the mirror.
That being said, her expressions are often a mix of concentrated frowns, annoyance and frustration. But she is not above any other means of expressing herself. In fact, she can be quite animated, complete with wildly gesturing arms when she's excited. Her big amber brown eyes are indeed a window to her thoughts. Asuka has yet to master the ability to keep everything off her face, but some might say that is the best thing about her. She's an open book.
When it comes down to attire and of the sort, given that she's a girl, dresses and pretty things might be worn only because her family is sort of traditional. When she's not in her training gi, or doing anything mission related that requires flexible clothing worthy of a shinobi, she's stuck in a kimono or formal attire. And she hates it. Asuka often breaks the rules by dressing in slacks and a simple tee-- not unlike dressing as a boy-- much to her parents' frustration. |
Obnoxiously determined could very well be the primary words used in describing one Asuka Yuki. She has a hard time telling people "no," or "can't," whether or not the task at hand is physically impossible or not. She is definetly not the type to just give up and as things progress, that simple fact may never change.
Reasons behind her fierce ways of accomplishing things dwindle down past her family issues and right into her difficulties with chakra control. This is a very sensitive subject for her, and she often does not like to discuss it at length. The girl has little to no control over her own chakra. Creating a simple clone or otherwise summoning it to any point on her person is almost considered a miracle where she's concerned. It almost always explodes in her face or ignores her entirely, and she hates it. This is the one thing she absolutely hates about herself and it is often to culprit of small excursions down Depressed Alley. Her confidence in her own abilities is a fragile thing, easily broken if stepped on correctly. But she tries to keep her chin up. God, does she try.
And well, being the only shinobi in her class that can't use her own chakra is like a horse that can't run. Bullying is an everyday life occurrence from her, from outright point-and-laughing in her face, to whispered words of pity behind upraised hands that she can be acutely aware of. Coming from a family that prides itself on their abilities as shinobi doesn't help matters either. Things are fairly tense between her and her father.
She's pretty used to being on her own, her issues making it hard to keep friends that don't gossip behind her back about her uselessness. Asuka keeps herself busy enough to not think too hard on it. She's always training, focusing, using every knowledge and bits of information she can get her hands on to help her in any way. Honestly, she has trust issues because of all the chakra nonsense. She doesn't trust people to be true and, well, accept her for who she is. Hell, she can't even accept herself so why would anyone else? No, Asuka is good being on her own. She can handle it. At least, that's what she tells her reflection every morning before going out to the training fields. "I'm fine on my own." |
The Yukis are a very highly respected family of shinobis. They have been involved in village politics for generations. Asuka's father prided himself in his own abilities and very much wanted a son or daughter to carry on his skills. Unfortunately, as life would have it, things did not quite work out the way he wanted.
When Asuka was born, the bar was set. High hopes and a future were placed and written in stone before she could even walk. Talk about pressure. Her father is a strict man that could not take a joke to save his life, and when it came time for Asuka to discover her chakra nature, he did not see the humor behind having a child with no control for it. Still, he was determined to surpass it. Asuka would learn not the love of a father, but the strict rule of a teacher.
Despite it all, Asuka aimed to please. She worked hard and did everything she was asked whether or not it got even an approval from her disappointed father. Her days in the Academy were difficult. Twice she failed the graduation exam, until, miraculously, on her third try, she passed. But not as she thought she had.
She did not pass because she showed promise as a shinobi. She passed simply because her father appealed to his superiors, and begged for her to be graduated to Genin. And they only agreed because of her ability in taijutsu. Outraged, hurt, confused and feeling a stab of betrayal, the rift between Asuka and her father plummeted to a depth she would never seek to repair. And then the damage was sealed when she overheard her parents discussing having another child; a more successful child.
Things were not turning out the way anyone would hope. No one would blame her for being upset, but Asuka bottled it. She stuffed all the anguish and hopelessness she wanted to feel away in some dark corner of her mind, and renewed her focus. If her father taught her anything, it was how to compartmentalize.
Now, she was determined to prove that her rank belonged to her, and not to some promise her father made. She would carve her own mark her own way short of scrapping off her family name from her background. | ooc info
