appearance

Yuzu has salmon hair that barely reaches her shoulders and messy bangs that cover her forehead. A section of her hair is always swept up in to a small, messy bun to the right of her head. Her large, brown eyes are enhanced by thick black lashes and framed by curved, brown eyebrows. A pointed jaw encapsulates the rest of her features - her sharp nose and her constantly-smiling lips. Standing at 5'3, Yuzu sports an athletic frame, the result of training, exercising and a picky appetite.

Yuzu usually wears long-sleeved, cool-colored shirts. They are often shades of grey-green and grey - colors that don't stand out. She is most often seen wearing standard, three-quarter length pants as bottoms. She wears ninja boots, as opposed to sandals, and ties her forehead protector around her arm. This outfit allows for her to easily slip the Kumogakure vest on top, if she needs to but she rarely does as she finds it too heavy.

personality

A characteristic trait of Yuzu's is her constant cheerfulness. Refreshing and easy-going, Yuzu is often found smiling. An endearing confidence encapsulates her, as does an extremely inquisitive nature. She is very energetic and social. She does her best to see good in everything, an attitude that follows her everywhere. She can be described as bubbly and slightly clumsy on occasion - she lacks the feline grace that most kunoichi naturally possess. Yuzu has an unusually uncompetitive nature for the shinobi world. This does not mean she lacks motivation, however, as she is extremely dedicated to her country and her Kage.

Yuzu has made it a habit to crack jokes - including bad puns - in front of the Raikage in hopes to garner a laugh from her (an accomplishment, in Yuzu's book). Yuzu is extremely polite and is very committed to accuracy. Yuzu is constantly dusting and straightening things. Nothing is ever out of order in her room nor the Raikage's office due to this quirk. Yuzu's handwriting is nearly perfect as a result of her picky nature.

Yuzu is extremely stubborn to the point of being unyielding. She refuses to ever give in which ties in to her determination. Yuzu has also been noted to wear her cheerfulness as a mask. Though she feels genuinely happy most of the time, she is able to mask more sad moods with her usual cheerfulness. Her smiles are her defense; nobody knows what she thinks underneath them unless she wants them to.

Yuzu is a proud individual. "Self worth" is the phrase she lives by. Her ideals and her happiness will not be sacrificed for anything. To herself, she is important and she is not sorry to have this outlook. This does not mean she is not willing to sacrifice her life for her country - she most certainly is. But she will not compromise herself for others on their grounds. If she wants to do something, she will do it because she has chosen to, not because someone else has chosen for her.

biography

Suika and Jirou Kagome gave birth to a child early morning of April 29. Her soft peach hair that fuzzed on her scalp and her pale skin almost pressed them to name the girl Momoko - Peach Child - but instead, they settled for Yuzu. Suika had been cursed since birth with a name that meant 'watermelon' and she felt the need to pass it on. Momoko was simply not an irregular enough name, as opposed to Yuzu, which meant citron.

Yuzu did not turn out to be anything like a citron. She was a sweet, social child. She entered the ninja academy at age eight and though she wasn't the smartest person in her class, scored quite well. She wasn't the best, but she was well above average which pleased her parents. She graduated four years later at age twelve and was placed on to a genin team. Her teammates were Fukuzawa Kaede - a boy who hated his feminine name - and Miyaki Kichirou - the top student in their graduating class. Together, they formed Team Takashi, named after their sensei, Takashi Watanabe.

Even kind Yuzu will not try and convince anyone that her sensei didn't play favorites. He spent much more time with the boys than with her, but she didn't mind this in the end. This allowed her to find another jounin, Ayami, who was willing to dedicate time to her and her potential in fuinjutsu. Besides, she certainly got her revenge during the chuunin exams when she and the rest of her team turned fifteen.

Together, they made it to the final rounds of the competition. In the first rounds of the exams, Kaede was matched with a genin from Kirigakure, she was matched with a genin from Sunagakure and Kichirou was matched with a genin from Suna as well. The three overcame these opponents - now Kaede and Yuzu had to fight. Yuzu had been fighting thus far using her wits - she didn't want to expose her trump cards quite so soon - and she didn't feel ready to use the fuuinjutsus she had developed on Kaede. She knew Kaede was a taijutsu user - he would follow her to get in to close combat and she used this to her advantage. But he was faster than she had remembered - scarily fast - and every time she attempted to run away, he was there. She was out of options - she ran through the hand seals and when he made contact, he collapsed to the ground, immobilized.

It was the final round of the exams - to determine the winner of the entire exams. She was to fight against Kichirou who once had been the most skilled ninja of their year. He was luckier than Kaede - though he was very skilled with taijutsu, he was primarily a ninjutsu user and he made sure not to touch Yuzu for fear of. . . whatever happened to Kaede. But he underestimated her. Sealing formulas are able to use anything as a medium and he then suffered the same fate as their teammates. She felt a twinge of regret at their still, bodies, but the look of shock on Takashi-sensei's face was so worth it.

A couple months later, she was called in to the Raikage's office. The Raikage explained that she needed a new assistant and had chosen Yuzu - responsible, dedicated Yuzu - for the job. This has been a job she has been serving faithfully ever since.
