appearance

Cheng has small black eyes, and hair to match. He often keeps his long hair in a ponytail behind him, leaving the bangs to sprout out the front. He doesn't have any really noticeable features and because of this he has a somewhat forgettable face. He is around average height, standing at about 5'8" and he has a well toned body. For clothing, he typically wears loose fitting pants to give him maximum mobility and a black vest or jacket that he usually leaves unbuttoned, with not shirt underneath. As of right now Cheng has no scars but he does have a traditional Chinese dragon tattooed on his back.

personality

Cheng is respectful at most times when dealing with other people but he has a 'high-society' kind of mentality that sometimes leads him to treat others like they are below him, especially shinobi from other villages. Despite his training as a shinobi he prefers to engage his opponents in a more formal 'duel' setting. This is likely because of the code of honor he was taught by his father as a child. He wants others to consider him not only talented, but reliable as well. This goal drives him to push himself harder and harder.

He has a soft spot for sweets and can often be seen sucking on hard candy. His love for sweets is so bad that he will actually go out of his way to find a shop that sells something that fits his taste in almost every new place he visits. On the other hand, he really dislikes seafood and will avoid it at all costs. His hobby, as sad as it is, is training. His parents are very strict and are always insisting he be better than he already is. This notion has rubbed off on him though and he is always striving to improve his skills, sometimes to the point of injuring himself.

biography

Cheng was born into a family of shinobi. Both his parents operated as chuunin in the village and his grandfather fought in the Great Shinobi War. To top it off, the Zu family is considered fairly prestigious in the Land of Water. With all this stacked on top of his shoulders, Cheng had a lot to live up to as a kid. With such large shoes to fill, many would think that he'd turn out to be a little shit. But this isn't the case at all. In fact he was the only one of his siblings to try and rise up and make his lineage proud. This meant that even from a young age most of what he thought about was training. His parents were completely in favor of this and his father spent countless hours of his childhood teaching him the basics of being a shinobi. Then, when he wasn't working on his ninja techniques, his mother would teach him noble mannerisms as well as instill a bit of arrogance in him.

When he entered the academy he was a model student. Teachers loved him but the other kids in his class hated him. His good grades and perfect manners won over any sensei he trained under; conversely his arrogance and natural talent caused the children his own age to genuinely loathe him. Unfortunately for him he didn't totally understand this phenomena and his parents simply brushed it off as jealousy, so Cheng grew to dislike others as much as they disliked him.

As time went on, things did not get much better; that was until he graduated. After being informed that they'd be placed on teams many other students who previously disliked Cheng suddenly wanted to be his friend. His arrogance and pride would prevent him from truly letting any of these people in, feeling that they only wanted him on their team for his talent. While this was partially true, it continues to be a great dividing wall between him and other genin in Kirigakure and his teamwork is bound to suffer because of it.

It is also important to mention that the Zu family has a very negative opinion of the other shinobi villages, especially Konohagakure no Sato, due to their shinobi being responsible for the death of his grandfather. Even though they are allies now this hatred has been passed on to Cheng and he is hesitant to work with anyone from that village.
