biography The Saotome line, for long generations, had known to have one child born, inhering the family's techniques and style of defensive Ninjutsu. It's been the acceptable, unbroken form for a long, long while, for the women taken for the Saotome family sworn to bear one child only. Thanks to decades of history and proof, such vow had been proven true every time, as one child was born to the line and no more, each generation. The supportive blood of the Saotome seemingly have something to do with this. But, a time comes when changes are made. Saotome Shikai, was not the only child born on that day to Tobihime and Nagi. It was almost 3 AM when the identical triplets were born. Saotome's triplet siblings: Bankai, Shikai and Mukai. Ban, Shi and Mu for short. They were incredibly close, extremely protective of one another, evidently from a very young age. However, despite all seeming pretty good, the Saotome line's single-child was broken, something which the grandfather and grandmother had heavily frowned upon. Saotome Bouichirou and Chousen. The old couple looked at this new generation of children as a curse from above, and resented their daughter Tobihime for bringing those three to the world. Despite this, she still refused to do in two of the kids, per her parents' orders; as such, Bouichirou decided to put the triplets up to many 'trials' and 'tests', as he called them, quite obviously to Tobihime and her husband, that death was the intended result. There was nothing they could do to stop the old man; even after putting up all he had, Nagi could do almost nothing against the newly-made grandfather, at the end of the skirmish for the kids' lives ending up dead. Acknowledging that Bouichirou was too much, Tobihime couldn't help but comply. Following the event at which Nagi found his death at the Saotome family's hands, the triplet siblings never got to know their father. The many trials and tests, however, failed to break the three siblings' spirit: they were still very much loving of one another and stood by each other's side all the while, managed to somehow get through. They were supposed to have their will to live declined; and yet, their energy only increased further. Until a certain day, where a terrible accident happened at one of the mountains of the Land of Lightning; that would be, the fall of Mukai. As much as Bankai and Shikai were concerned, their younger brother Mukai fell off a high peak and died as a result. Being barely four years old at the time, Bankai and Shikai couldn't comprehend why Mukai stopped moving or why had their mother shed so many tears. For some weird reason, neither of the siblings cried at the event, even after being told they will never again spend time with Mukai. Life simply went on. The twins left acknowledged their younger brother's death when turned five, but still failed to cry. Further trials and tests proved Shikai to be superior to his older brother in intellect, while Bankai had more talent in overall Ninjutsu. They had an identical level of physical prowess, their talents differing them. As more time passed, the difference between siblings became more and more apparent in their specific areas, and by 11, Bouichirou decided to dispose of Shikai for having less talent for the family's Ninjutsu. Much, to Tobihime's awareness. It appears that since Bankai was also older, if only by a very short time, Shikai was chosen for elimination. The family line's tradition overcame the children of that generation. It was a well-thought out plan to create a faked accident in which Shikai would be attacked by a wild beast and die as a result. Prior to the day of execution, Bouichirou seemed oddly at peace, more relaxed, while Tobihime appeared much more depressed. Bankai even claimed to spot his mother crying alone. On the day of the trial, the twins were ordered to go look for a specific item in a certain area around the outskirts of Kumogakure. By that point, the twins thought of the grandfather's orders as more training sessions and days out, being more or less used to the difficulty already. It could not have been timed better; a few moments after Bankai and Shikai split up, the 'wild beast' was unleashed upon the boy; in the form of an unreasonably aggressive, chasing Saotome Bouichirou. Shikai had not suspected even for a moment that his grandfather was responsible for Mukai's death all these years ago, and apparently neither was Bankai. And if Tobihime had not interfered with the assault, it's very much certain that Shikai would have been dead. Of course, Tobihime on her own was not enough to stop the highly experienced, surprisingly fit old man, however she on her own was enough to reveal that Bouichirou was behind Mukai's death, and aimed at Shikai's life as well. Saved by a hair, the mother was saved by Chousen, the grandmother. Maintaining a relatively neutral stand through the past eleven years, Chousen acknowledged the twins Bankai and Shikai, and even the now deceased Mukai, as all worthy children to the Saotome line. She grew to love their never-ending energy and will to live, and refused to watch the boy pointlessly killed. Shikai was exposed to Bouichirou's deeds, on both Nagi and Mukai. With Chousen's support, Tobihime moved away from the Saotome family residence on the outskirts of the Land of Lightning, along with her twin sons. They were given a new home in Kumogakure, where the two boys could grow up regularly and put to use their skills as Shinobi of Kumo. While Bankai had an easier time, Shikai had some difficulties and ended up quitting pretty quickly, Bankai passed with flying colors; by the first year in, passing the test and being appointed Genin and the year after, becoming a Chuunin. Bankai's excessive success in Shinobi skills inspired his younger twin brother to try again, and Shikai ended up re-entering the academy. But life isn't easy at all. Typical, classic death: Bankai died on the very first mission he was sent to as a Chuunin unit. It was a mission involving the extermination of a Missing-Nin. Over the news of the second brother dying, Shikai fell to despair, and so had his mother. He was now completely alone. Demotivated, devastated. He was much closer to Bankai than he was to anybody else, the two identical twins basically going through everything together until that point. The death of the closest person to him threw Shikai to despair, and his smile never appeared yet. Seeing his mother in such a state only further depressed the already down boy, thinking perhaps it's judgement from God. Maybe Bouichirou was right, and the triplets should have all died together. Why would he make them go through such a fate? Shikai was ready to throw himself to hell. He stopped caring about himself as a person. He stopped caring about his life. That's how easily he was broken. And before he knew it, training to become a Shinobi and going to the Ninja Academy was the only thing that kept him up. He dedicated himself to training properly and by the end of the year, by 15, he was appointed a Genin of Kumogakure. Even so, he refused to rejoice. That was until the new Raikage was appointed. Mei Tachibana. At first, he didn't care at all. But as time passed, he saw her in a better eye. Despite the spartan-type of training and threatening aura she appeared to impose, something about her was different. Inspiring, even. Almost like Bankai. He refused to believe it. Shikai's cooperation with his appointed teammates stooped as low as possibly could as a result of yet another turmoil inside, and he was stripped off his right as a Genin, returned to the academy. A 15-year old Academy Student. That's a thing to laugh at. And accordingly, Shikai was not respected in the least by his peers, only getting a neutral treatment from his teachers. By that point, he had probably given up. His mother Tobihime seemed to be alright now after a year, trying to cheer Shikai up, but failing ultimately. He shunned the real world and became a shut-in, only ever going out to the academy, and immediately retuning home after. At certain days, he even refused to leave for the academy. Until one day, someone sent him over a gift. It was seedlings, partially sprouted and in a rather bad shape. To the gift, a letter was added. "Why won't you try smiling?" Must have been someone's lame excuse for a joke. Shikai considered throwing the seedlings away, but couldn't bring himself to do that. Instead, he planted them in pots and every day took care of them, spending his days staring at the seedlings as they grew. And with time, and this little push, he failed to stay depressed. That sight was so beautiful, Shikai would never forget it in his whole life. He nurtured the plants, took care of them and tended them very closely, despite his spirits leaving him completely. And in time, they returned the love and care he showed for them, and grew up to beautiful, magnificent chrysanthemums. Brightly shining in the sun's ray that pierced through his always closed windows. He had seen the light. He was touched by the light. God had forgiven him. He was being watched by his family up in Heaven. This, was the push he needed. And for the first time since his cradle days... Saotome Shikai shed tears. He cried his eyes out like a baby. Happiness or sadness, whichever. He needed that, more than anything. He cried, until he tired himself out and he fell asleep on the floor. The day later, Shikai didn't show up at the academy either. He spent his whole day outside. Ripped off his own personal credit and papers in the academy, and brought a pet swallow for his mother with the little money he had. He went out shopping for a new attire to mark his rebirth. Saotome Shikai was back on his feet, more firm than ever. With barely any effort, but a majorly shining aura as pure as the brightest of lights, Shikai had passed the Academy test after reentering the papers once again. And present day, 16-year old Shikai is to be put in a team. "So, come at me with all you've got.
