Post by Hitomi Hane on Jun 17, 2014 20:41:24 GMT -7
426 | Her stomach rolled again and Hitomi staggered backwards: one step, two step, and on the third she tripped and fell onto her butt. Leaning forward the Hane coughed, fighting the urge to be exorcist sick on the training field. Her fingers dug into the dirt as she blinked up at Shikai, praying to her ancestors that he’d be paralyzed and unable to finish off their spar so quickly. But if he did, Hitomi had no hard feelings against him. The tactics he had, his techniques, they were well put together and planned out. And, of course, that elbow. Just the thought of having to face the brute hit with full power made Hitomi’s throat close. She was much happier now to be on the defending side of the Barrier.
Shuddering, the Hane finally managed to drag her dazed gaze over towards her teammate, a slow smile pushing at her lips. She had done it. Shikai was immobile for the time being, a small victory for the pained Hitomi as she thought how lucky she had been that the move worked. Though, luck was not the only factor in her fate, not when Hitomi practiced with both her team and her father as well- an heiress to a clan did not want in training. Even though, her Kanashobari no Jutsu would not hold for long. It was D-rank skill, easily learned, but took years of practice before it finally held like the invisible chains it could when properly used. For this case, Hitomi assumed she had another minute or so of breathing time before Shikai could break free.
That meant she couldn’t stay resting forever and soon Hitomi found herself standing up, wobbly and wincing as another pang of pain burned in her size. Perhaps there would be a bruise come morning. Grunting, Hitomi spared one glance at Shikai and then looked at the trees behind him and knew what she had to do. There was little possibility that Hitomi could perform another technique requiring chakra right now nor could she withstand hand to hand combat against her teammate, but she could always try and lose him in the mess of trees and ambush him later.
So, without saying anything, Hitomi ran off, tripping once as she went, a flutter of a complain slipping from her lips as she raced into the forest. The father she could get before Shikai followed the better, but he could always catch up before then, especially since Hitomi’s pace was slow and her breath raggedy from his earlier hit.
Let's try part two of this match, she thought determinedly to herself.
((That's okay! Him getting paralyzed probably didn't leave much room for you to write a lot >< Hopefully this post will be better. Side note, woo! We're on page two already~))

‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ay I’m on top of the world, ‘ay Waiting on this for a while now Paying my dues to the dirt I’ve been waiting to smile, ‘ay Been holding it in for a while, ‘ay Take you with me if I can Been dreaming of this since a child I’m on top of the world. On Top Of The World Screw paralysis; he definitely won that round. Maybe Hitomi's technique was actually a fluke and he just happened to be the guena pig for a test run, but it was okay: would he had have gone full-power on that high-velocity elbow strike to the ribs, not only would he have broken a bone or two, but would also succeed in interrupting the Chakra flow enough for even a chaining technique like this one to fail. Not to mention, how much his opponent would be squirming in the pain of such a heavy blow. Unfortunately, Shikai found himself in a pretty sticky situation, failing to move as much as a muscle in the Jutsu's effect. Was that how prey felt moments before being chided down or murdered? You'd have to wonder.
Besides that point... "Hnnnng, waaaai'--!!" ...Looks like round two was catching him up. Having already prepared Chakra and practically finished the handseal sequence, Shikai was ready to unleash a technique upon his teammate as she would attempt grab his hat while the boy is paralyzed. But, she ran away. Having still managing to hear, Shikai could track that Hitomi was not exiting the training fields, though her steps got gradually weaker in sound. Tactical retreat, maybe? Or did she think up something? When the boy could finally move again, he inspected the area behind him: there definitely was a small bunch of trees that could serve for camouflage. Was she trying to make this a long-range battle with less odds for a physical fighter like himself? In all honesty, it wasn't a bad idea at all. Shikai would be at a distinct disadvantage given his current skill when it comes to places like these with lots of hiding places.
But, every tactic you use, can be used against you. Smirking, the blond boy plunged into a bunch of trees on the opposite end, expecting that the girl would most likely try making her own move now. "(If I got this right... She's the sensor type. In that case, she should be able to track me down through normal means. Which means... It's time to bring back Academy lessons!" Making sure the opponent was nowhere in the vicinity that would spoil his plans, Shikai formed a single handseal. In a small smokescreen, he changed his form to an additional treebranch, conveniently 'growing' out of the one he stood upon. Now, not to underestimate Hitomi or anything, given how she could execute such a high-level Jutsu; but her skill was still Genin-level at best. She might manage to sense Shikai when he activates Chakra, but to pinpoint his location when dormant should be a problem.
And on that gamble, Shikai was placing his bets. Even if she did discover him, it should be a nice way to engage in combat: best games are played with a little handicap. Considering both were of more or less similar level, and both were users of Wind-style, naturally people would point to Hitomi being the victor, possessing a Kekkei Genkai and clan techniques as well. Though in real combat, it can't be properly measured. The outcome could go either way, and that's why it's so fun.

470 | As Hitomi ran she planned out her next moves. One of them was temping, something she would have done if this was a real fight, but considering the piramiters of the spar it would’ve been a greatly unfair advantage in her favor. Part of being a shinobi was mastering the ability to blend in with your surroundings, seeing how espionage missions weren’t uncommon, and for Hitomi that had been one of the easiest things for her. In fact, it wasn’t unusual for her to be missed out altogether in social settings due to her lackluster presence and quiet personality (excluding clan business, of course). But that worked in her favor on the field.
Being able to turn into a bird had its advantages in the right terrain. There were only a few lands where the nankeen kestrel looked out of place and even then it took someone who had knowledge of birds or knew their lands well to then spot her out if Hitomi was in a location foreign to her species. That being said, she could do that now. The Hane didn’t know how much Shikai knowledge of birds or if he could recognize her transformed self, but it would be simple technique. And, since it used her inner bird’s chakra and not her own, it wouldn’t further exhaust her either. After that it would be a simple matter of swooping down on Shikai and stealing his hat.
A fine plan, all and all, but Hitomi knew it was unfair. In her kestrel form she didn’t wear a tiny eye covering, she was just a bird, feathers and bones and muscle, no clothing. There would be no way for Shikai to take what wasn’t there. The girl sighed, her breath expelling from her body as she propelled herself up into the nearest tree. A shame, it had been such a splendid idea.
Hiding up in the tree branches far enough from where Shikai was, Hitomi leant against the trunk. Now her options opened up once again- she could search for him, she could attack him again in another blitz or she could sense for him and wait him out. Hitomi wasn’t the physically strongest in the group so she had other ways she excelled. And if she waited for Shikai to make the next offensive move then she could stay sheltered in her tree and wait.
This way Hitomi could manage a small sensing radius around her, so to speak, and know when Shikai came close enough that she could hopefully defend his attack or surprise him and take his hat. He may hate this waiting game she had now created, but Hitomi had no desire to run after him again or even extend her efforts into trying to find his location outside of the ten feet perimeter she set.
She was changing her tactics.
((So, like three things! One, sorry this post is late- busy last few days with visiting family. Two, the Hane clan doesn't have a KG but I'm not sure if Shikai would even know that IC so no biggie and you do know that the paralyzing technique is a D-rank skill that you can learn as a genin, right? It's effectiveness and how long it holds depends on the individual, of course, but it's a very basic thing to learn- by no means does Hitomi know something that is above her level. And third, sorry she's not going after Shikai- but she's switched to a defensive approach and I'm so tired right now and sunburned it's miserable ;_;)) |

On Top Of The World And so, Shikai waited for his opponent to come. He was practically chuckling to himself in anticipation, thinking how nice it would be if Hitomi really falls to his plan. As a conveniently attached treebranch, the boy disguised himself and remained in the lure, absolutely sure that by any moment near, he should have an offensive engagement with the girl. Yes, waiting was the key factor to ambush tactics: waiting for the right moment before recklessly rushing was a must, for the element of surprise was a crucial thing in all ambush tactics. Just catching the targets off-guard, using almost no power at all. Simply patience. It will breed results, it will pay off, and victory is very likely to be at the ambushing party's hand. They say that matches are decided depending on who strikes first, too, hence why waiting in ambushes was so damn important. No matter how long it took or how bored you were getting, this was a necessity to successfully win the battle. Even if it's just a spar, he should not hold himself back; always stay on guard, as the opponent could arrive at any given moment. Last thing he wanted was turning into the ambushed party himself. And thus, for all reasons stated, Shikai waited. Just, waited.
...Why isn't she coming!!?
Deactivating his technique, Shikai's expression could show clear irritation. Sure, he had no qualms keeping his Transformation Technique intact, but he got impatient very soon. This was just a spar dammit, why would it take anybody more than three minutes to cross approximately 80 meters!? And when there's a clearing through it too, meaning any average person could just run through it in around 12 seconds! So then why? What the heck was taking her so long!? "Hrrrmumumumu...! Enough!" Obviously, and thinking about it with his new personality, sitting still was definitely not one of Shikai's stronger points. He could plan out well, but executing anything that required sitting still was just difficult. An ironic fact considering he was more of a defense player, self-proclaimed anyway.
Impatience getting the better of him, Shikai figured he should probably take an offensive approach. Dealing with someone of similar rank to his own, it shouldn't be too hard making a first move, even if he ends up lured in the enemy trap. It was risky, but if he refused to do so, the battle would get stuck in that position. Remembering how to effectively scan the field, considering he was not a sensor by any means, the boy made 3 clones, each covering a distance of ten meters. The first sound to break the clones would sign spotting Hitomi. The real Shikai, among the three, was placed in the left-most corner, making an encounter with a false Shikai more likely than with the real one. As such, would still maintain the element of surprise even in an offensive formation. Just in case, the boy grabbed at his smoke bomb, acknowledging that its necessity in this battle, even if it's a mere spar, is undeniable. "Alright. Ready!"
Shikai made sure to run only through the trees, in which he was hidden, but also blinded. But the target was most likely hiding between treebranches herself, therefore, he had to sacrifice a bit of his hearing in that favor. Awaiting an encounter from any side, the blond-boy closed the gap very quickly. Did he meet Hitomi, however? Moreover, if he did; with which would she meet?
words: 000; tags: Hitomi Hane; notes: actually, only ANBU and above were seen using it, so... figured it would be pretty difficult to handle. Still D-rank, but should require really good Chakra Control and pool IMO.;

516 | The girl felt better now or, at the very least, she wasn't still reeling from Shikai's elbow blow. Of course her side still hurt, that much was guaranteed for the next day or so, but Hitomi wasn't winded anymore nor did she have an urge to spill her light breakfast all over the ground. And not needing to puke was always a bonus in Hitomi's eyes. Instead, she could properly prepare herself for the next encounter, knowing full well that there wouldn't be many exchanges left till one of them succeeded.
Favor landed itself to Shikai as far as Hitomi was concerned. He was stronger, his arsenal of physical techniques highly effective against the almost hollow bones of the Hane, and their rank and intellect ran near the same. In some ways it was hard for Hitomi to find her strengths when pitted against her teammate, regardless of her playful remarks and betting at the beginning. Back then she had been eager, confident and excited to learn and train with Shikai, but now that blows had been exchanged Hitomi feared she wouldn't be able to stand against him. Shikai was just as brilliant as he was strong.
The color on Hitomi's cheeks had a certain wanness about it as if her self doubting thoughts had a physical affect on the genin. Perhaps it did, but Hitomi dismissed the thoughts, or at least most of them as she brushed them to the side like old cobwebs. She still had fight in her! She still had a trick up her sleeve, a trump card. Hitomi had wanted this sparring match so there was no reason for her to quit now.
Feeling queerly refueled after the flicker of doubt, Hitomi expanded her sensory field, picking up to faint shimmers of chakra. Clones. That meant the real Shikai was somewhere else, far enough out of her field, but probably still close to his clones so he could keep them projected. He was hunting for her now, but happened when the hunter became the prey?
What if Hitomi switched her techniques once again?
Springing away from the tree, Hitomi jumped to the next one and then the next one, quickly heading in the directions of the clones. She still couldn't sense the real Shikai but her next idea would probably be enough to break the clones and stun her teammate if he was close enough when she reached him.
Forming the hand signs her father had taught her, Hitomi ran at the clones full speed, meeting them head on. Right when she saw the first flash of color in the forest, she knew it was time. Vaulting to the ground she sent a burst of chakra to her vocal cords; Hitomi opened her mouth. "Piercing Cry!" What followed immediately after was an ear shattering shriek, as if a hundred birds all cried out at once. The leaves covered by the blast shook, some ripping away.
If the clones were close enough the sound waves would shatter their existence and if Shikai was also near it would perhaps temporarily affect his hearing. If he was near.
Hitomi continued to run forward after the attack, seeking out her teammate.

On Top Of The World Begin scouting in line formation. The four Shikais moved rather quickly but warily, trying to lure Hitomi in to the trap effectively. It would be alright even if she ran to the original one, but less a wanted situation; after all, this was just a spar, they weren't going to go all-out on one another, right? With that nonchalant mindset, the blond allowed himself to somewhat drop his guard the moment the four clones entered the opposing woods' maze, attempting to lure her in. If he got that right, she was waiting to ambush the boy once he got in proper range, with probably another paralysis technique, to which he would have to react quicker. Which means, any rustling of the leaves, any suspicious creaking of a tree branch, any sound of the forest would be suspectibly a hint on Hitomi's location. Because he was trying to provoke, patience was in need, and he wouldn't initiate combat even if he found her hiding spot. Sticking to the plan.
And joyously enough, just when Shikai had to focus on his hearing sense.
"Ninpō: Tsuranukyou!! (Ninja Arts: Piercing Shriek)"
That, was just painful. Out of nowhere, a horribly ear-piercing sound cried out, signaling Hitomi's location but at the same time taking out the clones almost instantly. The real Shikai was now clear, in pain, trying to shut his ears to prevent further shaking of his eardrums. No more. It was just too much. Shikai's sense of hearing in particular, was a bit better than most people's, as he had checked, and having that suddenly delivered on him was too much. The Genin lost his focus and balance, falling off the branch he had stood upon and to the ground with a rather strong thud. In truth, the impact from the fall in this height wasn't too painful; the boy still managed to somehow block excessive damage by relaxing muscles in his body at the moment of impact; but he was still agonizing. Through her loud scream, Shikai's voice in pain could barely be heard.
Needless to say, this was definitely not going easy!
Trying to devise a proper reaction with that in the way was probably impossible. Besides 'make it stop', the boy couldn't think of anything. Right now, he could attempt ignore the shriek and proceed with a directly offensive approach to shut the sound up, but that would probably be a bit much. If anything, Shikai absolutely had to learn how to do that. That shriek thing, should come pretty handy in the right situations. In desperation to react, Shikai prepared himself for anything that the opponent would pull off now. It was unlikely that she'd maintain the shout that long: surely, it should damage her hearing as well, plus it's probably a killer in Chakra consumption, considering the mere decibel level. And when she gets close enough to snatch his hat, he would use his Taijutsu to deflect her. That's the only thing he could come up with right now. Simple, risky, but probably worth it.

Post by Hitomi Hane on Jul 2, 2014 11:20:55 GMT -7
325 | Hitomi’s ears rang slightly as the cry died out, fading away to an otherwise muted forest. The ringing was faint, more like an annoying gnat toying by her head since all Hane, when taught this technique, are also given training to muffle the blast from themselves. Hitomi was no exception to this and she knew the drill well: the vocal strike fired like a cone from her mouth, amplifying the sound and, more importantly, the damaging waves away from her. Flowing chakra to the ears to protect them was also a trick some of the younger Hane development during training and it was a move that Hitomi used often.
As her technique ended, Hitomi’s breathing was heavy, mouth opened, side throbbing, but the Hane girl was keen. Keen to keep going, keen to push herself, and keen to show that she wasn’t a dud of a genin. And, of course, keen to snag Shikai’s stylish hat. Nodding to herself, Hitomi pressed forward, her sandals pounding against the ground as she reached out with her sensing abilities.
The hazy glow of the clones no longer appeared for Hitomi, but the girl could tell she was tired now, her chakra waning throughout the battle. Her sensing range wasn’t as strong as it was before…harder to locate the real Shikai… Hitomi’s small facial features furled into a frown, her lips pursing as she concentrated. Where could her teammate be?
Apparently close!
Hitomi skidded, pivoting on her heel as she changed her direction slightly, honing in on white glow of chakra. She was definitely reading Shikai’s chakra. Charging through the thicket of trees, Hitomi found her target laying on the ground, disoriented by her attack, no doubt, but still a threat as always.
Yet if there was a chance for Hitomi to strike, now was it.
Reaching into her pouch, she threw a shurriken at Shikai’s feet, just below them so it would miss, and then dove for his hat.
((Not my best work, apologies.))

On Top Of The World For the love of God, how long were his ears going to continue ringing? Shikai most definitely needed to find an efficient way to break that when he gets the chance. Maybe by using earplugs or something... No, something as simple as that won't work. It can't work. In other words, until further notice, the boy was more or less screwed when it came to this one Jutsu. Not to say he was losing, just that now... They were probably on equal standings. The boy moved his hands slowly from his ears, convinced that by now he should probably be alright. There was a moment of ear-piercing silence; though that must have been a result of the intense sound a moment ago. Still, it wasn't entirely barable.
And then, something flew at his legs. A Shuriken? Hitomi was close by. Quickly getting a grip over himself, the boy flipped himself up backwards by using his hands for balance, on his feet already when the female closed on. The main problem was, though, he was crouching, and she was reaching fast for his hat. Backup plan? He could always cheat. If Shikai deliberately took off his hat, Hitomi wouldn't be able to achieve her objective: that is, taking the hat off Shikai's head. But such a mean tactic just wouldn't be appropriate, plainly a prank. Instead, with one hand over his hat, the blond boy took a quick leap to his left, trying to avoid the teammate's reach, finishing the motion with a roll over his left shoulder. That should get some distance, if barely for a moment.
Still, a 'moment' in a fight, was enough time. Shikai grinned as he left his hat free, taking an offensive approach at the girl again. "Yaah!!" A battle cry; Shikai was going Taijutsu again. First, a hollow, powerless punch to the enemy's face, predicting she would easily react to the sloppy hit. While it wouldn't be characteristic of him to attempt an approach with so many chances for failure, namely delivering a punch with no intentions of having it do anything, there was the fact he was knocked off balance only a moment ago. And that little interference in his balance system was all it took for a swift move to be executed. Because regardless, he wasn't in his best state after a torturous move like that anyway. Thus, somewhat slipping off-course on the hit.
Just according to the rundown plan. Retaking a firm stand, the boy went with the motion of his slip by stomping one foot on the ground, turning his whole body innaddition. This should turn around their stands; literally.

263 | Just as Hitomi once again felt her fingers reach through the air to grab Shikai’s hat, he was gone, rolling away from her in that impressive display of Taijutsu. An un-shinobi like chirp of frustration left her mouth as Hitomi watched Shikai carefully, knowingly. This had been her chance and she’d missed it. The girl braced herself, stance changing defensively as Shikai rushed at her, throwing a punch. As weak as Hitomi’s own Taijutsu was, she wasn’t completely useless in a hand to hand fight and she knew how to protect herself with just the bare basics. And both of them were probably tired now, each using their chakra, running and dodging, hitting and receiving hits, so it didn’t come to a surprise to Hitomi when she was actually able to counter Shikai’s attack.
Blocking the punch with her forearm, Hitomi pushed it to the side, body tense. She could only count the seconds, not having any moves to counter Taijutsu, as Shikai preformed the next and most likely final move of the spar. In a rush Hitomi felt her legs being swept out from underneath her as the girl feel with a hard thud, the back of her head banging against the ground.
She cried out, more from the shock than pain, and blinked at the soreness she felt.
Hitomi was staring at the sky, the blue coloring blocked by a canopy of trees as her vision wavered for a moment. She could hear a bird singing his love song sweetly not far off.
“Ugg,” she groaned, closing her eyes as the back of her head throbbed.

On Top Of The World It worked! His assault was a success! Shikai's leg swept right through Hitomi's feet, knocking her airborne momentarily before the girl fell to the ground with a thud, clearly not feeling comfortable with the pain and sudden shock. He had not even a moment to waste on this, and proceeded to leap over his body the moment she fell. "Toh!" Landing on both of his knees, Shikai was now on top of his teammate, knees cornering her hips. He was sitting straight, she was laying down with face towards the boy. With this, and an enthusiastic smile, the boy prepared his hand, cracking his fingers for a short moment before springing in to take his prize.
"Eeii!!" He let out, swiping his hand right at the cloth piece covering the female's eyes; grabbing it swiftly and elegantly, and removing it from her face. This, was proof that this spar belonged to him; he dominated it with his physical power, apparently. Luckily enough, he managed to keep his hat on through this intense course, despite being close to losing it more than once. Short as the spar was, it was a nice way of training for the two of them; learning of each other's strengths and weaknesses, and thus improving their chances of teamwork when the time comes. Shikai, however, did not think of such things at the moment. "Hehehe! I win!!" With a peace sign, two fingers raised up with his free hand, the blond boy gleefully laughed to himself, satisfied with the result. Shikai did not think of the profit of this spar; he was too absorbed in his victory over the girl.
Shortly, he stood up and offered her his hand to help her up as well. His face was basically beaming; he was definitely happy with the outcome of the match, left to think of what it bears later on. "Can you stand? Hope I didn't overdo it there, hehe..." Out of manners alone. But, it'd be pretty bad if Hitomi was injured from this little skirmish of theirs; he wouldn't forgive himself if he had hurt his own teammate on such a trivial session. Really, Shikai had been anticipating looking at the eyes of the Hane Clan, only hearing they were different from normal people's, but never getting to see them. That would be why he targeted the cloth piece in the first place. And so, he took a slightly gentler approach with the girl as the match was finally over.
Shikai removed his hat after Hitomi's decision as for her position. He dusted it a bit and started playing with it, spinning it over his finger as if it was a ball. He still held on to the cloth piece, though. "I'll give it to you though Hitomin', you're awesome! I don't think I've ever met someone who can pull off tricks like that!!" He cheerfully commented, attempting to compliment his friend. She had all rights to be complimented: Shikai was indeed impressed by her display of skill. The Jutsus she used weren't wide in range, but were still interesting. While he had his little Academy tricks to play, she seemed to stick with her Clan's way, as he assumed. "That cry thing, my ears are still ringing! You've gotta be a bit more careful with that later on, yeah? But still, cool! I loved it!! Think you can show me how to do that!?" And right away, moving on to a different subject.
It'd still be a little longer before he will considerately return her the masking cloth though. If he could, Shikai would indulge himself in gazing at the eyes of the Hane Clan until he had enough.
