Hanaye is notably small, standing at 4'6". A mere 87 pounds, Hanaye's stature is small and scrawny, a petite girl who was born with weakened endurance and whose harsh early years of life stunted her body. Her outward appearance is of someone clearly weakest in taijutsu, and this is true. Her dexterity only applies to her fingers; she is known to be clumsy, slow and weak otherwise. Though some in her clan specialize in hand-to-hand combat, she cannot claim to have the same abilities, taking the path of ranged combat.
Like the rest of her clan members, Hanaye has blonde hair that reaches her shoulder blades which is often tied back in a low ponytail during missions. She has large, light blue eyes. Hanaye is not as scarred as many of her fellow shinobi are, but her hands feature many calluses from working in the forges. A fair girl, Hanaye never tans nor burns in the sun (the forges are another matter). She gets cold extremely easily, even for her clan, and her hands are often graced with a purple undertone because of this. She is known to only get paler as the temperature drops, turning a startlingly pale shade of white should the winter approach and she not be properly dressed.
In the Underworld, she typically wears lighter clothing - such as loose tank tops and shorts - to keep cool but when outside, she bundles up quite a bit. She often wears a hooded green cloak over her clothing. Underneath, she always wears the same thing: tight, white pants, a brown sash, a white shirt and a cropped brown jacket. Straps on the pants hold a summoning scroll for her puppet and the other various tools she uses on a daily bases. She often wears fingerless gloves and knee-high boots with thick socks. |
Hanaye is outwardly tomboyish and down-to-earth. Growing up with a bunch of brothers made her less focused on girly things, preferring a good spar to going shopping, though she does have a fetish for having nice and clean hair. She's not very polite, often forgetting basic mannerisms to her mothers chagrin. This is only heightened by her clumsiness. She is prone to tripping around house guests or dropping fancy glassware during meals.
Though quieter than the rest of her family, she has no problem with loudness, being rather talkative herself. Generally a very cheerful but unfocused girl, she can be described as awkward and a bit queer, prone to blurting out things that make little sense. Rambling easily, Hanaye can be hard to communicate with despite her friendliness as she gets distracted easily.
She doesn't outwardly seem much like a shinobi. She's overly hopeful and sees everything in a much too optimistic light. Her tendency to think in broader terms and miss details is unfortunate; she is not very observant.
She's an artist, loving to spend time practicing with her puppet or with her cats. She's no mind-blowing blacksmith but she can forge small items of her own with help. Other than that, she prefers spending time with the cats that lurk around the clan.

Hanaye was born the youngest child in her family of five and one of the only girls in the Suoh clan to ever survive the her early years of life. Her mother, Yuuka, often told Hanaye of how miserable she had been as a baby. Born weak and crying, all feared that the girl would turn out like her older sister, Kikue, who had died at nine months. The baby prevailed, miraculously, and became one of the only girls in the clan to survive infancy. Hanaye's body remained weak and she did not have the clan kekkei genkai but she was alive and there was something to be said for that.
Hanaye grew up with three rowdy older brothers: Ryuuto, Ryuuma and Ryuuki. Her father, Ryuuta, was equally noisy but her mother did her best to balance the crazy crowd out. Her mother had married in to the Suoh clan from a small and high-class civilian family, so she was far less appreciative of the family's disorderly ways. This she did her best to make her children calm, quiet and seemly but even Ryuuma and Hanaye, whom these ideals were best instilled on, were still notably more active than most children. Nonetheless, her mother loved her family and was often the one to patch them up after a tough fight or split them up should they start dueling too near to her fine china for comfort.
Hanaye entered the Academy when she was eight. Her parents were not extremely keen on her becoming a shinobi due to her weak and fragile build, but the girl was adamant. She met Yasu Miyake when she was seven and began to idolize the famous Tsuchikage. Because of this, she desperately wanted to become a shinobi and someday become just as strong as the retired kunoichi. So at her insistence, her mother entered her in to the Academy. Her mother was prone to letting Hanaye get her way, as Hanaye was the only female company she had in the family of unruly males.
Hanaye was at first bullied for her small stature. She was fragile and tiny at age eight and more tomboyish than girly. Her brothers, however, quickly noticed that she was coming home miserable and bruised each day and quickly put a stop to the bullying. Her time at the Academy was otherwise boring. She was third in the written exam - though her mother wasn't a shinobi, she helped Hanaye study nonetheless, being an intelligent woman - and ninth in the field examination - her taijutsu was too weak to rank higher. She was then placed on a genin team with two others.
