i'm not empty and all i loved, i loved alone Notes: Here's to a crappy first post! Tagged: Hitomi HaneWords: 586 | The air was heavy with the scent of petrichor, a sure sign of the rain that was bound to follow. Ninja and civilians alike made their way through the village with an extra spring in their step, not wanting to be caught in the oncoming summer storm. Amongst the hurrying people was a small pale-haired teen sauntering through the streets with a pleasant smile on his face. Smiling, that's right, he was always smiling. It was his disguise, his mask, so to say, and it hid the loneliness and misery that lurked beneath his skin. But today, he had a better reason to do so.
It was going to rain.
A rain day was always a good day, at least in Kiyoshi's book. Rain days meant less people out on the streets and less people to disturb his nap. Rain days meant a lesser chance of encountering a fellow clansman. Now, it wasn't like the kite hated his clan or his clan members, but it was a tiring business. If he stayed out of the way, his sister would have less trouble with any inheritance issues that may arise. Then there was the fact that he neither hid his eyes no hard the right eyes. It was all just a big tangle of etiquette and hierarchies that he didn't want to dabble with.
Back to the weather though. Another reason why rain was such a godsend was that it was a reason why he just gone and jumped off a cliff somewhere, never to be seen again. Within his heart, he had a list, a special list of reasons to breathe, and smelling the rain was on it. It was his secret, something that he'd guard, ironically, with his life. No one would know of it. At least, no one living. There weren't many things that were so special to the Genin anymore, so he would never let anyone corrupt his special list.
A drop of cold startled Kiyoshi from his thoughts, and as he turned his face skywards, more and more droplets fell from the clouded heavens. For a moment, he simply stared, breathing in the musky scent that permeated the air. Then with a quiet, but carefree laugh, the boy was off, running through the dampening streets to find a place to hide. He was, (un)fortunately, drenched in the process, but a rare, genuine grin split his cheeks anyway.
This was his reason for breathing.
Lightning in the distance. The pale-haired kite held his breath, counting the seconds to the clap of thunder. Twelve seconds. Another flash. His whoop, fierce and free, was drowned out by the deafening roar that soon followed. It was not something a person as quiet as himself usually did, but for once, it showed that he had more emotions than most people would think he had.
Ducking under an overhang into a corner he was sure no one would look, he quietly pressed himself against the wall before sliding down onto dry cement. Then he sighed, content, and hugged his knees close to his chest for warmth. Now would be a good time for a nap; he didn't mind catching a cold for it. Even if he did, he'd probably just disappear somewhere away from home and his so-called family to take care of himself, like he usually did. But that didn't matter, not now anyway. All that mattered now was the soft pitter-patter of falling water, and the occasional clap of the thunder that was his country's namesake. |

561 | At first the storm winds made for easy flying weather, at least for Hitomi. The nankeen kestrel, while one of the smallest falcons part of the Hane bird’s, was built to hover in these winds, spending less energy on speed and more on stamina. Hitomi’s inner bird was used to hovering over fields or perching on a rooftop as it scanned the ground, eyes intense but lacking urgency. She wasn’t made for speed, she wasn’t made for size, but she was made to fly without hassle. And even now Hitomi took advantage of that as she regarded the impending storm as troubling factor she’ll eventually need to face when it picked up.
The kestrel swooped lower, falling to the ground before stopping herself as her wings caught another swell of air. She was one of the only birds in the area; most had retreated back to their nests or had taken cover in bushes and trees to escape the soon to be storm. Hitomi could smell the virginal rain to be, her yellow eyes- the only feature that stayed the same from her human to avian form- honing in on the villagers as they scattered. Some scampered to find shelter and, with a wayward breeze hitting Hitomi from the side, the shinobi knew she should join them.
Her descent to the village was a precise one as Hitomi pulled her wings in, zipping through the air as she lowered herself to soar a few feet above the rooftops. She should go home and perhaps see if her father wanted to do some special training with the weather or if she needed to catch up on her studies. That would’ve been the dutiful thing for Hitomi to do but…but something was pulling her to fly just a little further before returning home to the clan. She didn’t have to wait long to figure out just what that reason was.
Kiyoshi Hane. The second born to the current Hane leader and his wife.
Circling around for a moment, Hitomi followed him, feeling the vibrations from the thunder, flashes of lightning preceding seconds before it. Rain pelted at Hitomi’s small body, running off her water resistant feather. She needed to land before the thunderstorm, such a common sight in her homeland, became worse. Having a vague feeling that Kiyoshi wouldn’t appreciate her company, Hitomi continued to follow him nevertheless. Her brother had always been this way, one way on the surface, another underneath, and lately the years had been driving them further apart. Or at least it felt that way to Hitomi who spent more time with her own team and practicing than she did with her younger sibling.
She watched him disappear under and overpass and, after another sky shaking roar of thunder, Hitomi made the final leg of her descent. Swooping underneath the pass, she landed a few feet away from her brother, giving him a chirpy greeting, her kestrel hello a flurry of ‘kekekeke’s. Then, with a slight pause, Hitomi transformed back into her human form, still uncertain how Kiyoshi would take her arrival. Not well, the older Hane feared, not well at all.
“Escaping the storm, Otōto?” she questioned, giving Kiyoshi the familiar name of ‘little brother’ in hopes of making him feel important. He was, after all, precious to Hitomi even if she was too busy to show it.

i'm not empty and all i loved, i loved alone Notes: Not as pretty as yours c': Amazed by your bird description. Hopefully (not really) Kiyo was enough of a jerk. Tagged: Hitomi HaneWords: 468 | A swish of air, barely loud enough over the rain for the dozing Kiyoshi's ears to catch. Even if he'd heard, he'd have attributed it to the wind, a companion that sometimes sang to him on days he was restless. A few seconds later, and quiet bird sounds sounded in the sort of ally he'd retreated into. These he didn't miss, and he sighed inwardly, not bothering to open his eyes to see who it was. He already knew, in a way. There was no one else who'd try and make time for him.
A soft greeting that addressed him as otouto only confirmed his thoughts. It was only then that ruby eyes revealed themselves, a flutter of pale lashes against pale skin, darkened by the shadow of the overhang. Hitomi. It figured he could never be too happy. Happiness for him was a transient thing, and even in his joy, there was a hint of the negative emotions he housed. They were at the very core of his being, so how could they not be there?
"Aneki," he greeted in turn, smiling. It was his usual smile, mirthless but kind, nothing more than a slight upwards quirk of his lips. It revealed absolutely nothing about what he was thinking at all, except maybe it did: it showed how little he trusted his sister. He'd long since stopped calling her cute names like Nee-chan and Hito-nee, and the last time he'd even called her by her name was back in their academy days. The fact that the brunette had addressed him by his title, and not his name was yet another hint of their growing distance, though that may've been to the silver-haired one only.
"No, not at all. What I'm really escaping from is...home." It was an honest answer, and if one listened closely enough, they would realize that what he really meant was his family, including the masked girl who'd approached him. Even so, the boy hesitated on the last word. Home hadn't really been the right term. Home was a name for a safe haven, and the Hane house was anything but that.
"Anyway," he continued, without missing a beat, "what brings you here? I'd have thought you'd be with Otou-san by now." If you looked at it one way, the comment could be harmless enough, just a statement of the fact. With Kiyoshi though, he had a way of giving it a mocking tone that was there as much as it was not.
He could still salvage his day by hurting his sister and trying to get her to hate him. Because if he did, it would be his greatest success yet. It was a cruel thing to think, but he had already crossed that line long ago, chasing everyone away from him. |

447 | Hitomi felt as if she waited on an edge of a cliff, so tense did she feel as she watched her brother. Everything seemed still around them, even the rapidly approaching thunderstorm sounded muted to the older Hane’s ears. She didn’t care about the pitter patter of rain nor of the almost tangible mist that would soon descend on the village hidden in the clouds. All she cared about right now was Kiyoshi’s response. And the fact that she hung onto his greeting to collect it and weigh it as a marker to how well their relationship was doing was proof enough that something heavy had come between them a long time ago.
Her smile faltered at Kiyoshi’s reply. The honorific, the smile (it was always that smile, that smile of his as deceiving as a deep pond with a reflective surface), it all made Hitomi turn away, the flash of hurt in her eyes hidden by the cloth that covered half her face. She knew she shouldn’t feel like this, not when it seemed like Kiyoshi felt no loss over their weakening bonds, but Hitomi ran more sensitive than her brother. Or rather, she let those sensitivities show more easily, she let them wound her faster. Hitomi hoped her otōto cared but she also faced the cold reality that he just might not, not any more.
Hitomi didn’t let this stop her from trying to talk to him or trying to practice with him or include him in her team’s training. In fact, it sometimes pushed Hitomi harder to reclaim the brother she believed she lost, but the years made this feat hard. Settling down to sit across from Kiyoshi, Hitomi felt herself squeezing against the opposite side, her back digging into the wall, her arms crossed against her chest. She felt small around her brother, despite their clan positions.
His words made her feel even smaller.
“Oh, I see,” she replied, glancing over her shoulder to see the rain pick up. She couldn’t get back home now, not as a bird, not as a human, not without getting soaked or worse. That being said, Hitomi couldn’t leave Kiyoshi alone even if that was the most desperate wish he had- and perhaps it was right now.
Hitomi tried to move around that gut feeling. “I have no training planned with him tonight or at least none that I know of,” the girl said, looking over at her brother, giving him a shy smile. “And I haven’t spent much time with you in a while so when I saw you hide from the storm I thought I'd say hi.”
In her own way, despite it all, Hitomi was trying to extend an olive branch.
((Ahhh- he was XD Enter annoying emotional sister now.))

i'm not empty and all i loved, i loved alone Notes: Aww Hitomi!! I wanted to hug her while I read that post Dx And welp, we can be emotional together x3 Trying to figure out my own character in this post and then confusing myself, sorry for the long rambling that probably didn't make any sense! Tagged: Hitomi HaneWords: 1078 | Smiling red eyes, as smooth and impregnable as well-cut rubies, drank each of the girl's reactions as one would drink water in a desert. Though it was well-hidden, they were greedy, always thirsting for more. But on the flipside, however, they were also careful and restrained, and any ripple of emotion that he allowed to mar his smooth mirror face was monitored and kept to a minimum.
The wobbly smile. The look away. Despite the fact he couldn't see his sister's eyes (he had always loved and hated those beautiful bird eyes), each gave the his companion's feelings away, and each was a silent victory for him to savor, bittersweet like coffee with too much sugar. It hadn't always been this way, but he couldn't remember when exactly it'd started either. At first, he'd only lashed out because he had been confused about how he'd felt about her. Now, it had become like an instinct, a habit. A game.
As his sister settled herself across from him and rattled off responses to his hurtful words, all the while smiling that bashfully hopeful smile of hers, it was Kiyoshi's turn to want to turn away. Conflicting emotions swirled within him, a whirlpool that sucked him in and drowned him, every time. No one would save him, he already knew that. And even if they promised to do so, it was all a lie. The first few times he'd believed they could and reached out for them (them, he couldn't really remember who and what they were anymore), they'd pulled him out and then tossed him back in again with nothing but more wounds to show.
He was like a fish they'd caught but released with the fins cut off.
To Kiyoshi, the world was this: one big lie, a trick that only the naive fell for. His academy schoolmates had all tricked him, making him think they were friends when in reality, they'd turn their back on him as easily as one would swat a fly. His family was the same. Otou-san, denying that he played favorites (Kiyoshi was sure he had, once, even if it wasn't too his face or in those exact words), and then running off to play with his firstborn only. Okaa-san, who would worry about him one second, and then turn her back on him the next. This was the way the boy perceived things, whether they was a truly accurate representation of the truth or not.
Then there was his sister. In a way, the silver-haired teen would always think of her as his beloved Hito-nee. Kind and gentle, she was something to be protected and cherished. But her kindness was also what wounded him the most. He hated her for being the one who was loved, and yet loved her all the same for the kindness she showed to him. It was the same with her eyes: they were beautiful, and he was proud that she'd been born with them, but at the same time, he cursed them, for they were something that marked him as inferior.
Those eyes, eyes he couldn't even remember the color of anymore, they made him want to bash his head against the wall; he feared he might go mad over them. Different parts of himself kept telling him different things: her eyes are special, and he wanted to keep them for himself; but for what reason? Was it because he loved them too much and wanted no one else to see them, or was it because he was envious of them and wanted a pair for himself?
There were too many things he wanted to say to her, but instead, he kept them to himself. He pushed her away, and pushed others away too: he wouldn't play favorites like his father. If he was going to hate one person, then he might as well hate them all. Hurting Hito-nee exclusively would have been wrong of him.
And so he ended up wounding the very thing he wanted to protect.
For a long time, he tried to convince himself that he was right to hurt her the way he did. She was a trickster: she took all the love for him away, and then tricked him into loving her as well. Then there was the fact her brother was a terrible brother, for ever wishing ill on her. He hurt her as a way to make her stop coming back, but she still came, always looking for love again.
By the time he was a teenager, he'd realized that he was all sorts of messed up. And by then, he didn't know how to tell his sister the things he felt, his confusion, his love and hate. He'd spent so much time hating everything that in the end, the only words that came out of his mouth were the hateful ones, and it was only the angry feelings that he understood best. He couldn't see the daylight anymore, and the glass would always be half empty now. He would only ever be able to see the flaws now.
"Well then," he said thoughtfully, pretending to consider the brunette's "peace-offering." It was easy to see that she was trying to reach out to him again. "Hello." Then he got to his feet. "If that was all you wanted, then goodbye." Carefully making sure he didn't step on Hitomi, he made his way back out under the pouring rain, immediately getting drenched. Then he walked away, hands stuffed in his pockets, looking for all the world as if he was taking a walk under a cloudless blue sky.
Rage triumphed over everything now, and behind his smiling eyes and face, it writhed like a serpent that tried to eat his heart. Would she follow him or would she back down again? Was she a weakling? Was her kindness genuine enough? Though he could've just Shunshin'd away and risked killing himself slipping somewhere or something, he simply walked, a cheshire cat grin playing on his lips. It was his test, yet another one, and he knew he was playing hard-to-get. It was unfair of him to keep forcing his sister to only give, and never receive, but maybe, if she could manage to convince him that she cared enough, maybe he would one day be able to start and tell her of the things he hid. Maybe, if it wasn't already too late.
But that had yet to be decided. |

630 | Unnerving. That's how it felt when her brother turned his attention to her, his eyes, so plain by Hane standards but so beautiful by Hitomi's, dissected her as if she was the practice mouse and he the newly apprenticed student. Each time Kiyoshi studied her, Hitomi could feel his scalpel slipping into her skin, too sharp to be jagged, it just flayed her evenly and slowly. Alive. Instinctively, Hitomi, felt her arms tighten around her flat chest, knees pulling back as she shrunk once more under him.It shouldn't be like this, the girl thought dismally, not when they shared blood and sibling ties. Neither could deny clan status or living, but both could work around it when they were together instead of what it had come to be today. A constant battle to be civil, and in Kiyoshi's case, overly civil, when near each other; a clear recognition that the ruling family had two different behaving children; a stigma on both their eyes depending who you asked; and the fact neither Hitomi not Kiyoshi seemed comfortable around the other. It was all an emotional wound that festered instead of healed.The rain slammed down around them, the thunder sounding like a thousand horse hooves running across the ground. There was no leaving her brother in peace now- something that Hitomi believe he longed for more than anything else in the world. She looked at her knees, faintly noticing how the bandages were scuffed and dirty, she needed to change them later. Her brother wore bandages too, maybe it was something their mothered had matched them in during their academy years and they had never grown out of. But the older Hane doubted her brother kept them for such sentimental reasons and by this point in her life, Hitomi couldn't say she remembered if it was their mother who'd started the tradition or not. It didn't matter now- any connection the lady Hane attempted to foster between her children always failed.When Kiyoshi's voice slipped into the air around them, as if it belonged like a shadow in a room, Hitomi glanced up eagerly. She was hungry for his attention, starved for his love, and she clung to Kiyoshi as if only the inflictor of her emotional turmoil could be the one to soothe her. It appeared as if Kiyoshi was mulling over her words, and for a brief second Hitomi wondered if she'd said the right thing. Did he believe her?If her otōto could see her eyes then he would know that hope lit them up. Hitomi found herself leaning forward, a cautiously optimistic smile peeking at her lips. And then he stood. And he spoke. And Hitomi felt like someone had shattered her world and gutted her clean. "Oh-but," she rushed out, her eyes stinging as she fought back that pathetic feeling burning inside of her.Kiyoshi wanted nothing with her.She was nothing to him.Hitomi didn't want to cry over that, not when this feeling of dismissiveness was so common now. Crying over the same pain was futile, her father had warned, you needed to change your tactics, fly a different height and see from another view. Swallowing a thick clump of saliva that had wedge itself in her throat, Hitomi scampered off of the ground, pushing herself into the rain.Kiyoshi was farther ahead of her and soaked, while Hitomi barely registered the rain, her gaze too zoomed in on her brother. "Kiyoshi! Please! Please, don't go," her wavering voice frail in the booming storm. "What if, what if we trained or went somewhere? Not home, it could be anywhere, let's just spend some time together."She reached for his shoulder, trying to stop him before adding like a plea. "Like we used to."((Not confusing at all! I loved it a lot! Ahhh, all the inner pain and thoughts Kiyoshi faces ;3; Poor sweetheart. 10/10 these siblings hurt. I keep breaking the template on mobile, sorry! I will pretty it up when I get back home on Thursday ;;

i'm not empty and all i loved, i loved alone Notes: So sorry this is late! orz Tagged: Hitomi HaneWords: 643 | The cold that came with being drenched to the bone was well worth the way his normally fluffy hair clung to his scalp and face and the way his ninja clothes clung to his thin, bony frame. It made everything so much sharper and clearer, and it pulled him away from his confusing thoughts. It was, in his eyes, a gift: just one more reason why he lived for rain days.
With a vague sense of surprise (though was he really surprised? it wasn't like this was the first time she'd chased him down), he realized that his sister had followed him out into the downpour. He immediately beat it and his satisfaction down; he had to think cold and numb. He didn't deserve to feel as happy as he did that she'd come after him, and neither did she deserve the amount of heartache her wayward brother brought. Once again, Kiyoshi had to come to terms with how disgustingly selfish he'd become. What did he think he was accomplishing by playing hard-to-get? Just how much of his unfairness could Hitomi take? Who was he to push her away and yet yearn for her to approach him?
When the weight of a hand fell on his shoulder, he was unable to withhold his body's flinch and subsequent recoil. Regardless of what his sister might think of that, it had been nothing intentional. The boy had simply become so unaccustomed to actions of intimacy that his body could only view them with hostility, as if they were a threat. And they had been, in a way. His mother's so-called love had once tried to tie him down, and his father's so-called love meant that he'd be second forever. Love meant a lot of hurt, and Kiyoshi could admit that he wasn't strong or stable enough to deal with that.
Maybe it was the rain, or maybe it was just the way Hitomi begged for him to stay that made him turn around and face her. He wanted to shake her, and angrily demand how she could let go of her pride so easily. She was a Hane, wasn't she? She was the clan's next head. How could she be reduced to begging so easily? If it were anyone but him, her very pleas would've been considered a disgrace. And that wasn't to say he cared for the clan all that much, but he neither wanted his sister to be picked on for being shameful, and nor did he want her to cause as much suffering as he did.
Eyes flashing dangerously, he stared critically at the small brunette. His first words were cold: "Don't beg. Know your place, Aneki." It was a rebuke and a reminder all in once. Technically speaking, he was being disrespectful to his older sister for saying such a thing, but no one else was within earshot, meaning she wouldn't lose face, and if no one else would remind her, then he would. It was a reminder, anyhow, of how she was of a higher status than he was, and didn't need to beg. In fact, she could've just ordered him to stay or go somewhere with her, though whether or not he would've obeyed was uncertain.
Truth be told though, it was probably better that Hitomi hadn't ordered him around. His was a free spirit, and to bind it down would only bring about unnecessary resentment. Anyway, rain days were supposed to be good days, so he decided to humor her for once. "We don't have all day, then," he complied almost grudgingly, by way of agreeing to follow her someplace. He'd let his sister decide where and what to do, because if it was up to him, he'd have simply found somewhere dry to take a nap or read or something. Being wet didn't bother him too much. |

519 | She looked drowned, sodden, and smaller, even smaller if that was possible, now that the Hane girl was wet. Her mask started to cling to her face and Hitomi’s hair followed in suit, short chunks of it plastered against her paled cheeks. And while the rain made her brother look older, fierce, as if he’d been through more than his young lifetime would normally allow, it made Hitomi younger. And by her ancestors, everything was cold. So cold that Hitomi could feel Kiyoshi’s body warmth radiating out from his shoulder, underneath his clothing, a cruel deception from the surrounding chilly weather.
The genin was smiling though, despite the situation, despite the fact she had to run after her own brother. Because she was close, close enough to touch him, and that alone was improvement. Their last physical contact was a distant memory for Hitomi as not even sparring allowed her a pseudo-embrace with her brother. This held promise. “It will be fun,” she added, her fingertips brushing against the clothing draped over Kiyoshi’s shoulder, her palm settling on his warm body.
It will be fun.
Hitomi’s words echoed inside of her head as Kiyoshi jerked away from her unwanted touch. Suddenly, Hitomi snapped her hand back, reacting as if she’d touched a hot stove, fingers burning. Her face blushed, the subtle red coloring giving her cheeks a shade of color, one she had previously lacked. It will be fun. She looked away, aware of how childish her words sounded, of how eager her hand had been to touch her little brother.
Kiyoshi didn’t need to know that her eyes couldn’t meet his as he berated her. While her younger brother chose to show his beautiful eyes, Hitomi hid hers, knowing that with the covering half of her face was completely concealed. People didn’t need to know the heiress to Hane couldn’t even meet the gaze of others. Hitomi had turned her face back to him, however, granting him the appearance as if she was matching his look. Truly, though, she focused on his neck.
Know your place. He had said.
She knew her place, otōto, she knew it wasn’t with him if he had his ways.
Crossing her arms over her chest, Hitomi readied herself to leave, to rid her presence from Kiyoshi once and for all. That’s what he was going to say next, Hitomi could just feel it. So when Kiyoshi did speak, his words easily twisting through the rain to reach her, Hitomi frowned. Then her face lit up, smile returning once again, previous injuries forgotten in this brief moment of ‘kindness’ from Kiyoshi.
“Yes?” she questioned, her excitement tinting her words. “Where would you like to go? I know the weather is a bit bad but we could check out that new tunnel the other genin keep talking about? It’s not too far from the village and so far no one has gone in all the way.”
This wasn’t something Hitomi would do normally, more likely Shikai or Kenta, but she wanted to keep her brother’s interest. It wasn’t bound to last for long, not with her as its subject.
((No worries at all! totally just made up a cave tunnel thing >> kinda crappy post too, sorry))

i'm not empty and all i loved, i loved alone Notes: The tunnel thing was genius. ;w; And it's not crappy at all! Seriously though, I really do wonder what color Hitomi's eyes are xD I hope Kiyo's not too OOC in this sigh. Tagged: Hitomi HaneWords: 616 | Would the outing truly be fun though, as Hitomi had claimed? Kiyoshi was skeptical. If anything, brushing off his sister's request would have been an act of mercy. Sure, she'd be hurt by the fact that he hadn't agreed, but at least it would've been...short-term? It meant he'd have been removed from her presence, which was just a nicer way of saying that she wouldn't have had a sharp tongue targeting her at any possible moment.
For a moment, he thought of rusted knives and glimmering kunai, of lacerations, red against pale skin. If he could visualize his words as items, then they would be knives, and the wounds they inflicted would be on the surface of the soul. Not even Medical Ninjutsu could heal wounds like those, and that was something he found morbidly fascinating.
Choosing not to comment on the statement prior to his agreement and chastening, he simply shrugged. Though the rain could change his views on the days, it couldn't change the smile that was his pokerface, especially when he was around people and/or things that kept him from completely lowering his guard.
...It had to have been the rain, because his good mood surprised even himself. "Up to you, Princess," he said nonchalantly, and though it would only serve as another reminder to the two's differing social standings, as well as a crack at her authority, but he couldn't deny the hint of dry humor that had entered his tone. Though it wasn't much different from his normal tone, it was clear to his own ears, as they were so used to hearing something of a more patronizing tone.
He hoped his sister hadn't noticed.
Though he often hid out in the many natural caves that accompanied the mountainous terrain of his home, Kiyoshi had made it a point to avoid the tunnels he'd been hearing so much about. He wasn't a social bee, and he found his own caves far more interesting. They also provided for a quick campsite lest he ever needed to get away from home, and his best places were always well-hidden. They were like his list of reasons to breathe, a precious secret that was carefully guarded. They were also the reason why his room was so spartan, and why most if not all of his personal possessions could fit into his set of drawers.
Not that he would let his sister know about any of that though. It did strike him as a little strange that Hitomi'd pick tunnels of all things to show him; he hadn't thought she'd be interested in things like that. Had she had a chakra nature of doton, he would've at least had some sort of explanation that was borderline plausible, but as it was now, he was drawing a blank. It probably just showed how little he tried to associate with her now. Quietly, he added yet another thing on his list of things he didn't know about Hitomi (he liked lists: they were orderly and it was a good way to remember things), the first of which was the fact he'd forgotten the color of her eyes.
At least now he kind of knew she liked tunnels too. And that she was somewhat social, if she had heard from the other village Genin. The former did make him take note of the fact that he may have to stick to his farther, more hidden caves if he ever felt the need to flee from home. Oh well. If the trip was as fun as his sister had promised, then maybe he'd feel generous enough to show her one that they could hide in from the rain. |

557 I don't think so! I think it shows how complicated and difficult all of this is for Kiyoshi. Like another feeling, another part of himself, is just underneath that surface waiting to get out. So Hitomi thinks XD I'M SEARCHING FOR A PARADISE Had they played together in the rain as children? The thought entered quickly into Hitomi’s mind, intrusive by the very nature of its content. By no means where the Hane children too old to remember their childhood, but for Hitomi it felt like it had been another lifetime ago as if the one she was living now with Kiyoshi happened to be a cruel mirror of their happy beginnings together. Hitomi blinked, a small shudder running through her body as she felt the cold rain slide down the nape of her neck to be absorbed by the collar of her robe. If they had played together as babes Hitomi couldn’t recall. Maybe that was for the best, better not to remember the moments they had together as true siblings so it wouldn't make the current pain any worse. Was that how she wanted to live her life though? Forgetting the past? The girl shivered again.
"Up to you, Princess."
Kiyoshi’s petname caught Hitomi off guard, torn between feeling a wave of love from the little statement or bulking at the nickname like it was just enough way to tear the two apart. She was caught on the threshold, eyes lifting from her brother’s neck to peer intensely at his orbs. Had Hitomi heard someone else brushing underneath his words? A light dusting of…Hitomi faltered, eyes dropping away, leaning back, no, she couldn’t tell. Whatever Kiyoshi had meant by that name it’d been lost on her. A notion as depressing as the rain hailing down on them.
“I think the caves could be nice to check out now,” Hitomi stated carefully, hand picking each word so not to make a fool of herself again in front of Kiyoshi. Sometimes Hitomi felt as if she was the younger sibling in their relationship, her normal observant and almost motherly personality demoted to a willing young child, ready to please and be loved. It made her wonder if Kiyoshi’s personality also altered when with his sister…but she’d never noticed him any other way. Not, of course, that Hitomi would ever spy on her brother. That would simply be rude.
The girl continued to talk, turning her head to face the directions of the caves. “With the weather I doubt many will be out there now,” a shy smile on her face. “Yes, I think we will have a great opportunity to explore!”
Why Hitomi was so pressed about the caves even escaped her. She wasn’t exactly adventurous nor did she have any affinity to the crags, but she hoped it would be secluded enough from the village and the rest of the Hane clan that Kiyoshi would be put at ease. Perhaps she could learn something about her brother if he didn’t feel like they had to live up to their titles every moment of the day. And in Hitomi’s view, she believed Kiyoshi her blood brother first over someone she would one day rule. And she too had heard of the clans that fell apart between sibling rivailry and different claims to the ‘throne’. She didn’t want the Hane to die out because of her.
Nodding her head and resisting the urge to grab Kiyoshi’s wrist, Hitomi started to walk, hoping her brother would follow. “We just need to get there, shouldn’t be too long.”
